ECU Experiment **********************

Did a bit of a experiment today at the essex meet,a certain person asked me to try his mte ecu which he swapped for mine but i did not run it as i was a bit reluctant. That said T5TART took the challenge so i went with him in his car with his superchip in and mbc down a stretch of road long enough to give it some boot.Came back tried SAID ecu and turned the mbc down went down the same bit of road again and came back car felt slower but no boost spike,so we put his original ecu back in and went for another run, felt quicker than the last run but yet with no boost spike,we returned to the talbot and decided the spike he was getting was in fact he had the mbc turned up slightly to much from the start,So now draw your own conclusions all i can say is that i will be visiting Hamish and Adam at VT at some point for a RICA upgrade as i was not impressed with the other and i was very happy when i drove the RICA 304 version

Very interesting!!

I was also surprised to be honest after what i have heard about superchips may have to go see hamish too see what magic he can work :)

I am sorry but thats a really bad test,if you "turn the mbc down" and get less bost the car will be slower. The MTE controls the boost through the std bcs,and the fueling is setup for higher boost levels so it would have probably been rich depending what your mbc is set to?!The superchips chip just removes the std boost cut and controls the boost with an mbc and does'nt adjust the full throttle fueling from the std map so it will be a bit leaner and thus faster.IMHO you will never know unless you have a wideband though or put it on a dyno. What is the mbc set to? Edited to say that mbc's always spike as they spool the turbo as fast as it can and it over shoots a tiny bit then settles.

mbc is iset to 1 bar for both runs
mbc is iset to 1 bar for both runs
i can vouch for that we did make it a fair test for both ecu`s
Very interesting!!
To be honest i dont think it would make any difference to my car as we did both runs on tarts car with the mbc set at 1 bar and left it all we did was change ecu`s and the superchipped one felt more responsive and quicker through the gears giving it big licks. It was a fair test

If you get a chance next time, you will be able to tell alot more by letting an upgraded ecu control the boost by itself. It will pull alot better up top compared to an mbc.I would'nt make a judgement on one ecu upgrade verus another like this!

Post 123679 by t5tart on 2006-07-09 21:22:07

at the end of the day given the choice drivability wise ill stick with mine I am happy to try any alternatives though
at the end of the day given the choice drivability wise ill stick with mine I am happy to try any alternatives though
to be honest we both went out in yours so it is not a biased judgement it is a fact that your ecu was the better of the 2 on the day in your car LOL,but as we all know no 2 T5`s are ever alike. But i think i will be going the way of a RICA upgrade but it was a good test (apart from that w4nker taxi driver at the roundabout LOL)but if any body disagrees with our findings then please go try for yourselfs and see what you think

now now ladies handbags at 5 paces please at the end of the day how much of your time is used top end i was more than happy with the performance of mine over the TME map mbc or not mine seemed to just pull better and in my mind thats what its all about not top end speed cause thats just silly IMO who cares idf it does 150 or 155 where are you gonna use it ? now as far as annoying chav's with 5 inch tail pipes mine works hehe

Wayne was asked by we all know who to test the ecu and to offer his opinions on it.Thats whats been done and Wayne said what he thought. The supplier of the ecu in question was aware of the set up and was happy to lend them the ecu.I see no confusion here Wayne tested it didnt like it end of story.Everyone else except t5hillbilly and porkpie gimp were not in the car so all this is meaningless as no one has a realistic idea of what it was like except those two.Wayne prefers the rica set up and thats his decision and hillbilly prefers his super chip over the Tme .Now can we all just get on with our lives please? And what a shock yet again certain people are stirring the s**t again to try and ruin things for all of us.Certain people should take a long hard look at the total bollocks they keep spouting and if they dont want to play nicely with others why dont they just f**k off and play with the other mindless idiots.Im tiired of all this and dont want the volvo name dragged down by a small minority of idiots with no brain and the social skills of a maggot. If anyone has a problem with any of this please feel free to contact me so i can talk to you more freely and tell you exactly how i feel!

As long as you are pleased than thats all that matters i was just trying to explain, why you got the results you did. When i said top end i did'nt mean 155mph i meant 5000rpm up to the limiter in any gear, as in top end of the rev range sorry for the confusion.

People read thes forums and then make decisions on what ecu to buy.I was just tring to point out that the ecu wont produce good results in that situation with the mbc, just like any other ecu map that was not designed to run with an mbc.
