If i buy another car and it is mot`ed and insured can you legally drive it back home with no tax??? or not cus the new car i am wanting is not taxed and i will be picking it up on a sunday, can anyone help

Every car you take out on British roads needs to be taxed. So if its parked up in a street infront of your house it can be taken away and crushed etc. Just make sure you stay off the motorways/duel carriageways and dont bring any attention to yourself.
Legally - as far as I understand - if it's not taxed it's not allowed on the road no matter what.
The pics of the car show it on the road outside his house but does not say it is taxed ??? wonder if he will tax it for me then could be worth a ask

If you like the car and intend to buy it, tell him to take a stroll down the Post Office and slap 6 months on the thing. I am sure if he wants to see a sale, he will not haggle over the cost of a tax disc.

He might not have it insured hence no tax, but I doubt you will be the first person to buy a car and drive it home without a tax disc ;)

Yeah definately get some tax on it, really not worth the risk and hassle if you get caught.

Post 133690 by tr03bor on 2006-08-13 11:24:35

if its got a new MOT i think you can buy the tax on the internet as soon as you buy the insurance

Post 133696 by JO5EPH on 2006-08-13 11:41:12

I think you can only get tax online if its one of the 'newer' computerised MOT's... And if it's not taxed, it will void the insurance so you could be facing 'driving without insurance', which isnt good. Would be best to try to get him to tax it I reckon. Joe :)

Have sent him a message asking if he can tax it for me

Post 133750 by t5tart on 2006-08-13 13:54:48

i think if you do get a tug though its gonna be an £80 fine but i dont think any copper would do you seeing as you bought it that day the main ones to watch are the anprs

Post 133784 by Baj on 2006-08-13 15:58:17

Personally I would, and have. I doubt Mr Plod will do much, especially if you have all the docs and a reciept. As long as you dont pass any ANPRS as already mentioned. Mind you, if you did the fine would go to the prevoius owner anyway :D

Post 133952 by splatt on 2006-08-13 21:07:24

Legally.. Can only be driven without tax to a PRE ARRANGED MOT test and back 'home' again. Must be a 'reasonable' distance. :)
