But how about adding a "Sin Bin" or similar to the forum for the likes of non work safe funny stuff that rears its ugly head from time to time??? By non work safe i only mean the sort of stuff i've posted the past couple of times that are funny but could be seen as offensive in some peoples eyes and not just out and out smut or porn. Suppose it all depends on how much you trust the rest of the members really.... or how well its patrolled. The idea being that it creates a place for us all to have a laugh away from the technical aspect of the site and hopefully might make people stay around a bit longer instead of just getting info and taking to the hills!!! And its all in a spot we know not to go in if work PC access is somewhat limited. like i say tho.... just an idea! we could even have prizes for the main contributor.... wonder who would win that ! ! ! ! ! ! :wink:

I was actually discussing this very idea with Kevin the other day mate, i think its a good idea, like you say, the things that are not politically correct etc, as long as it doesnt go too far.....yes! Ill get it sorted over the next few days for us all :wink:

Cool Justin, as long as people dont abuse it its got to be a good idea. I was thinking about access to it as well tho as you dont want youngsters getting on and leaving yourselves open to action taken against you. can you close it off until they have opened a profile and agreed to terms + conditions or something??

Are you refering to a forum other than OFF TOPIC that one would not dare to go into say if one were at work or if mixed company was looking over ones shoulder? Like a doghouse? Or a seedy ally? Or a Hotel lobby that reaks of cheep perfume? Or a shabby underground rock music venue that smells of urine? I have no idea what you are talking about. :eek: Hopefully it would not turn into a porn forum:sheep:, there is that chance. The creaters of this forum would have to make it very clear what the rules and the intent of such a forum would be:deal:. This might lead to a whole lot of work for the moderators weeding out the bad seeds, especially the bigger this site becomes. On the other hand, You could test fly this thing and see what happens. There are a lot of trashy forum-sites out there, I like this one because it is not that.:hail: PH

I can assure you that this site would NEVER condone anything seedy let alone post it or allow it to be posted. We are that sort of site nor do we want to be. Banter and pi** takes with a touch of ohhh err Mrs we can do - anything over and above that wont happen x

BAKEY . . . . OK, so you want Validation to use the F word in a select forum as you stated above? As I am humbly still confused and certainly not a prude, and I am not trying to be difficult. You and I are able to talk as if in a Pub, in the OFF TOPIC Forum, what more do you want? !! The answer to that question has not been layed out by You as of yet. What do you want to be able to say in this forum? The ultimate goal is to keep this website proper as one would bring it. Opening another forum would bring one more forum for the moderaters to look after in my mind. If you want a raunchy forum...just come out and speak your mind, they might just go for it..... OK maybe i'm being too harsh....there could be a harsh language forum...It takes a brilliant person to appoint harsh language in deed. PH

A very valid point HELRAZOR if somewhat picky! certainly not looking for validation for use of the F word and have/will always endeavour to camouflage that word as well possible if I ever do use it. As the title of this post would suggest... this was just an idea, an idea that I thought should be shared with the wonderful "even tempered" people of the volvot5 forum :eek: the fact that Moderators had been talking on the very same subject would also suggest that this is a valid point that should be discussed. In my opinion the problem you seem to have is distinguishing what I mean by "Non Work Safe" material. Now i dont know what sort of forums you've been looking at in the past helrazor when you talk of a Hotel lobby that reaks of cheep perfume but if you would care to look at 2 earlier posts in the General / Off Topic section (both posted by myself!) you should hopefully see the sort of posts I am talking about. Lets Take Brit Strip for example.... quite simply a harmless bit of fun with less smut than you will ever see on the front of any daily news paper (unless your a times reader!!) but if your works IT dept takes a dim view of such web pages this could cause a lot of unrest. After looking through the General / Off Topic section and finding no such previous posts to the likes I had posted, thought this topic should be brought up and discussed with the democracy. I for one do not want to overstep the boundary’s of good taste and offend people but if these posts are welcome in this section then so be it.... if they are not welcome at all then yeh you are a prude!!!! However if there were a section that was clearly labelled..... If I wanted a smutty forum lets face it, I would go and find one. This however is an automotive forum but if everyone talks shop on here all day what a very dull world it would be.... if this is to become a community it will need people from all walks of life with one common interest.... Volvo T5s. (wow they should even play dramatic music over that last bit lol)

Your original post has a very valid point and apparently, according to you, needs to be discussed, and I am not dismissing your post or the idea that it brings up. All I am doing is throwing in my two cents. That is what discussion is for right? I think that I know what you mean by "NON WORK SAFE". Or maybe I don't. As I said, I just think the existing OFF TOPIC FORUM should cover what you want, without adding another forum for the mods to babysit. Also, when I say seedy alley and cheap perumed lobby obviously I was drawing an online picture for you of what a forum could be. That is not what I want to be a part of. Ok, in my opinion it would be for the humerous posts that may slightly offend by using the F word etc, ie the snoopy post would be in there, i let it go this time for all of our benefit. If i entitled it (its my forum) "The boozer" and put a disclaimer on that its for over 18's and that some posts are off topic and could offend i think all bases are covered! It adds variety to the forum without overstepping.... Your thoughts please members???

The only trouble you are going to have on running such room is that everyones expectation of where that line lies will be different to anothers.... hopefully none of my previous posts will have crossed that line with any of you but if they have (or ever do in the future) i would fully expect a PM ticking me off and the post removed.... possibly on a 3 strike ruling where membership is revoked???? I would imagine that the IP of offenders could be logged and banned from re-applying but I could be wrong. At the end of the day this is a fresh new forum which can pick and choose the best features from existing forums to make this the mutz nutz in terms of "a place to hang out". More people online = questions answered faster. If an answer cant be found from someone at that line at least it can be thrown open to discussion with other members in a friendly environment
