Hey Folks
How sad can anyone get - spending the day cleaning their engine and then taking piccys of it! The neighbours curtains have been twitching all afternoon!
Here's my engine when I bought the C70 2 months ago:
And here she is about 2 hours ago once I'd gutted the entire engine bay and added all of Wootty's bits & bobs:
Don't stare too long or you'll end up doing what I'm doing - Dragging the slider at the right of this window up & down to compare/spot the difference between the 2 photos ;)

Can Spot a few differences so far .... lol
Brake Fluid Resevoir, Coolant, Cam belt cover, Battery, fuel rail and dump valve!
Any more for the £50 take a break prize?
Post 161032 by Dacvolvo on 2006-11-12 19:11:35
Cheers people
Hard to say exactly how long it took as I've been trying to find the odd hour here and there over the last fw weeks, but I'd say it's taken me about 8 hours all in. Possibly more than that.

Ha ha ha - add to that the air filter box, windscreen wipers & Power steering reserve (with added little alloy Volvo cap)... not to mention the removal of half a ton of dirt and crap.
;)

yep looks nice n clean now m8,.shame it wont stay that long with the winter now approaching but if you spend a sml time each week it wont be too bad.ive had years(too long) of keeping engine bays clean thru winters.
Post 161086 by MIKESC70T5 on 2006-11-12 20:01:11
Wootty, are you planning on doing something for the throttle cover?

Post 161209 by T5SLAVE on 2006-11-12 23:27:05
No...someone tell me cos I just can't spot the difference:P
Seriously m8, and 2 all the other members gettin to grips with gleamin up their bays (largely thanx to Wooty) what a crackin effort, well worth disturbing the neighbours on a Sunday, all day Sunday, if that's the result! We all love a spanky spanked engine:)
I've seen and had some very crispy Ford bays in the past but seriously, I can't wait to see Wobbly Dave's efforts if his bodywork (ohh matron!) is anything to go by:wink:

it is a usual norm for ford owners to pay out 1000's on there engine bays(especially if you buy your bling from mirage, they want £40 for a battery cover + thats looks poo).
time for some swedes stakes.:mischievo

I have a spare rocker cover that I have acquired and I am currently on the search for plating companies. Wooty - you seem like a man in the know - would the aluminium rocker cover be better polished or plated?
Post 161563 by Wobbly Dave on 2006-11-13 23:16:16
Similarly I also have one of these to do up (me7 inlet manifold)
Post 161565 by BlackBeast on 2006-11-13 23:18:06
Only heard of people polishing the rocker cover.

I am concerned as the material is not flat - as you all know - it has that texture appearance and I am worried that chrome plating it when it is not flat will look odd?
Opinions/Options?

Im pretty sure Im right in sayin that a plater worth their salt would make any piece of that ilk look smooth n spot on all day long, it's just platin innit?
I used these chaps many times b4 when hittin other cars o mine, their pieces and work is second-to-none IMO of course:wink: Any help m8?

Hiya,
like what you've done. I try and clean a few bits up while I'm in there but nothing like that.
Do you have a list of types of product used on which bits or other tips? I'm not sure Fairy Liquid managed all that :-)
Cheers, Pete

Hey Pete
As I said, the whole thing must have took about 8 hours (over a few weeks).
The chrome parts came from Wootty on this forum, the black plastic shine on the pipework came from loads of elbow grease, a can of WD-40, tub of 100 cotton buds and 35 rag t-shirts (give or take 30 either way ;) ).
The manifold and engine head were cleaned with very fine sandpaper/water to remove the crap that had built up over the years and then sprayed with more WD-40 and then polished as best I could with a few cotton rags.
If you look closely at the 2nd piccy (the after photo), you can actually see the red plastic of the dizzy cap.
:B_thumb:
There's a little 'how to' on my website at www.dacvolvo.tk which shows you what I did to the S70. That'll guide you a little better.

its boring and laborious but the effort is worth it.its a shame volvo didnt make all the air con pipes outta stainless coz after a few years they start to look really rusty n crappy.specially the ones behind offside headlamp.any one got some chrome touch up paint:gossip:
