speedo and mileage

I was just wondering today if my speedo has any effect on my odometer? Just that my GPS thinks that i'm doing 67 when speedo says 70, which is 4.48% wrong. So if you scale that up over the 166K my odo says I've done, wouldnt that put the car closer to an actual milage of 159k-odd miles? Does anyone else think this, or have I just had one too many Strongies this evening? Clearly not the end of the world, and if it's true then it gets a service before it's actually due - but interesting none the less when considering actually how far the old girl's gone...? Mine's about the same, 3 or 4 mph out I expect it does affect the mileage but like you say it can't be a bad thing and I believe its closer to being accurate at lower speeds so it probably evens itself out...? I know a chap (renault 19) who's speedo read 8mph more than the gps, ouch.

At least you can drive a little bit over the speed limit and not get ur collar felt. Mind you I wonder how the curvature of the earth affects the GPS as it would assume you are travelling in a straight line between 2 points, when in reality you are going up and down a bit. Mind you that is probably a load of tosh! :wtf:
