Sneaky bu**ers, you can never tell what the police have these days, God Damn !!!!! I knew the fella behind me in the Robin Reliant was checking me out LOL Was it a Police radio or just an 1980's mobile, who know's.....

Very sneaky, but they like their Volvos - new and old.

I agree very sneaky I'd be declined to stop for it unless it was with a Marked car, its too easy to get hold of blue lights and sirens these days. I always understood that dounut munchers dont use cars old that 3 years old, but I have seen them pushing 5 years. BUT a S reg thats just not right :-)

They're using anything these days i think. Seen some older omegas, audi A3s and the lot. My brother said he saw 2 3 series coupes undercover :wow:

I think it's for the surprise factor, Joe Monkey in his Subaru Impreza thinks he's racing another Joe Monkey, turns out to be the fuzz recording his every move. :)

Hampshire Plod have a history of using cars you'd least expect. For example I've seen them use a Mark 3 Escort XR3i, absolutely mint condition, about 4 years ago. On another occasion they'd pulled someone on the M3, I went past and couldn't figure out what the unmarked car was for ages. Then twigged, a VW Vento. They also do other things to make the cars less obvious, for example they had gold coloured wheels fitted to a red unmarked Scooby, and have had an M3 lowered and running on 19's.

Who's joe monkey in the impreza lol :buttkick:!!!! It's cheeky of them but I don't know why they havent been using all sorts of cars for a while, does catch people out. Especially when they use 'provocative' cars which they know will get the bit in lots of people brains going i'll show him!!!

They also use the exit/entry for that bridge as a hiding place as you can't see it until it's too late. Additionally, the bridge itself is where they set up VOSA/ANPR/Tax camera's on a fairly regular basis. The other place to look is at J5 on the M3 southbound, the Hook junction. They can sit on the bridge out of sight because of the trees on the left hand bank. Finally, on the M3 northbound, couple of miles before the M25, is another Police bridge. The sliproad to rejoin from it is completely hidden by trees, so they sit up the top, looking back south and can see you about 1/4 mile before you can even see the bridge.

If you get pulled with one of these just DRIVE to the nearest police station as i would be very weary of the old bill using an old car like this! how are you supposed to know it's genuine? cause a scene they may be sympathetic (ha ha) and give you a warning? this fraud's been done before to people and it's understandable if you had your doubts!!!!!!!!

Post 172585 by V70R999 on 2008-08-05 13:01:37

I have to say I've heard of lots of different types of Police cars but never using cars that old. Our unmarked cars last a few years and then go off to auction. Normally done 120k plus miles by then

Trawling between Peterborough to March and upto Wisbech the unmarked car of choice is a dark grey mettallic mondeo st220 the dead give away was the the policeman behind the wheel and the bag of donuts on the dash sorry to our police members but I remember judges rules saying the primary objective of an efficient police force is the prevention and then detection of an offence. don't quote me verbatum. Once you go into unmarked cars for everyday use then you have stopped being a preventative force.

Post 172718 by Shortbusdriver1969 on 2008-08-05 15:24:19

as the law stands on been pulled by a unmarked the officer MUST be in uniform and if your in any doubt drive to the nearest police station or VERY public area, I am sure V70999 will be able to verify that for us

I believe Hants Police have a Legacy on the way soon. Be warned!

The cop that got out the s70 had uniform on my mrs has seen this car a few times come into the recovery yard where she works , if a car thats been in a accident or crash has been taken which the police are interested in. also seen what looked like a dark blue merc going down the oppersite side of the m3 which had blue lights in the rear window

There are so few cops out on patrol that it is almost impossible to do preventative policing. Most of my work is unmarked and it allows me to patrol the areas where major crime ie drugs/theft of and from motor vehicles and burglary are taking place undetected. We catch much more crime in unmarked cars because you can catch them in the act or can follow known cars/offenders around.

Post 174119 by aeroresh on 2008-08-09 19:39:16

yes, but you've missed the point.....if there were more marked patrols, the crimes may never have been committed in the first place?

Post 174124 by saufboy on 2008-08-09 20:06:58

Twas a few years back (about 7 or 8) we had a depot near heathrow and there was a lot of break ins at the time, me being parked outside our depot (in me truck) one night i was approched by a marked met car, one of the coppers asked if i was staying the night, gave me his card and said if you see anything suspitious ring and they would be there post haste. Anyway a couple of hours later about half tenish this old battered cortina was cruising around 4 up so i took the reg down and thought bugger it i wont ring them, half hour later an old battered cavalier 4 up was doing the same so i rang the number and gave the details of both cars over. Ten mins later this old cortina pulls in again and comes up to me, low and behold both cars were met undercover cars, the copper said they were in mint conditon engine wise and they use them because there the last cars you would expect coppers to be in.
yes, but you've missed the point.....if there were more marked patrols, the crimes may never have been committed in the first place?
I got the point, but having a marked car patrolling around isn't as much a deterrant as you think. Major criminals who are doing such ccrimes as stealing your new pride and joys off your driveway will have a team of people driving around in a legal car ( registered to them with licence insurance etc) They will be monitoring the marked cars and keeping look out. Now obviously they get to know the unmarked cars but its a lot harder for them to keep tabs on them. Yes marked patrols might put off petty crimes but has no real effect on serious crime. Only way to solve the issue is to have more Police ( o making more of the ones we have by getting rid of a lot of unnecessary paperwork and getting officers stuck in offices out on the street)

as ex security officer of a university and working close with local police, inc CPO it was always said there is no such thing as crime prevention its really called crime-relocation, one will never prevent crime but you can relocate it to another part of town. EG oiley-chav-scrottum see's a marked car on patroll he will move to where there is not a patroll = crime reloation in my veiw and my veiw only the only way to solve this is to execute the little F$$KERS LoL

someone told me the other day south yorks police have aquired an older v70, 'just like mine'. it's great the effect a dark blue volvo estate has on other drivers though, lol

Many years back I had a mate who was a mechanic for the Met. He took me to the Northolt depot. A real eye-opener. Everything from black cabs and bulletproof Merc Limos to the latest fast cars.
