Image Image Image This is my current project,a pick up for drag racing with a T5 motor in the back:insane: Should be a laugh & its a bit different from all the turbo nova's running up the strip! I do run my 850R at santa pod but its now got to the point where a 14sec quarter isnt enough & to progress much further means stripping the car out & spending a few thou on the bottom end...pistons,rods,billet crank etc & i dont want to strip my road car, so this was my next idea:smile: Engine will be in this week end,i'll keep up posted on how its comming on.

It'll be the best thing that ever happened to that Skoda !! Can't wait to see the progress.

Fantastic Ive had a couple of felica's the 1.3 was better balanced in the handling stake than the 1.6 due to the difference in weight between the alloy and iron vw lump! But your solution answers all the problems, good luck with the project and would love a go when its done!

Should be good fun!

Post 187843 by shemtek_racing on 2008-10-11 22:42:09

beat me too it! i was gonna drop my old engine in the back of a 106 thought if i could mount a front subframe in the back of it the rest of it "should" be straight forwardish!

Post 187844 by shemtek_racing on 2008-10-11 22:42:48

forgot to mention....... THATS AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the comments.I did also have the idea of fitting it into a 106/saxo but the rear of the volvo subframe mounts didnt really allow enough room & then its just too dam noisy with an engine within the passenger compartment so this was almost the ideal thing to do.Separate drivers area to the engine etc, ease of working on as there's plenty of room around the engine bay & its not that bigger job to take out the whole lump through the top.I have also considered(& i no you may all think im mental!)fitting another T5 lump/box etc in the front if this isnt quick enough, but im going to see how it goes first before i decide.

Mid engined RWD 1100kg's and 300hp - oh yeah, she will be quick :D You may need to adjust all the damper rates though

Nice :)

Post 188213 by dannt5 on 2008-10-13 21:45:51

I no what you mean about damper rates,Ive been trying to find someone that does coil overs for a T5 but they seem very hard to get hold of...& im only needing the fronts which makes it even more of a prob.Spoke to a guy from spax & he says he can send me 2 blank unbuilt coil over casings for me to weld my own hub mountings on & then send em back for them to powder coat & build up to my spec...good but not cheap, however its looking like the only option at the mo.

Post 188219 by shemtek_racing on 2008-10-13 21:52:13

if your custom mountain then have a look at some f2 brisca coil overs im sure these arent silly money and should give plenty adjustable with springs availiable in all sorts of stregths

Post 188222 by dannt5 on 2008-10-13 22:08:07

Strange you say that...i was at skegvegas stadium sat night looking at F1 & F2 set ups.The guy at spax recons around £250 a leg but thats with me making & welding my own mounts.Only trouble with the stock car set up is wheel travel...or lack of it lol So it looks like im going to have to use a standard..ish coil over type.

Post 188931 by shemtek_racing on 2008-10-17 09:21:11

you could get more travel with a push rod setup...

Post 189494 by dannt5 on 2008-10-19 20:49:47

Image Just a quick update.Roll cage has been formed over this weekend & will be welded in by end of next week...then its the rear space frame thats next. Also polly carb windows have been added for saftey reasons but with the added lack of weight bonus, doors & bonnet have been stripped & any unwanted material removed.

Post 189539 by powernut on 2008-10-19 22:21:38

wickid project lol i shoved one of these in the rear of a type1 bettle lol scary 300bhp,manual runing 1.2 bar of boost, rwd and my next project is on a similar basis to yours ,only im fitting a r32 golf 6clyinder turbo and 6spd box and just adding electric 4wd lmao ,,,,in a old mk1 golf caddy ,should be like a skatbord with a rocket up its ass lol#heres link and theres a few vids of my nuttyprojects http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=175625

Fantastic! I which I had the time and space for a mad project I have always fancied doing something silly with a skoda estelle or rapid!

Post 192392 by dannt5 on 2008-10-30 21:47:18

Just a quick update on the pickup.Ive done a bit of adjustment on the subframe position & re-adjusted the ride height so it sits a little more like standard. The rear space frame is starting to take shape & with a bit of luck will be just about finished this weekend. Image

looking bang on this pal ,u really ought to add to the caddy forium ,as they have been talking about it ,ps do u know who well these go ,,,trust me thers going to be defo,,,rear rubber burning with that in the rear ,, ,and a idea know the brakes what are u going to use the standard vented ones on the rear ,with some differnert calipars ,,as i made some mitshutishi rear ones fit onto the volvo hubs, and then what about the fronts ,as its nice to go bigger ,as i managed to get 334mm discs on mine and just clear a 17inch wheel ,but i reckon ull not have any weight in the front ,,,ill be watching this to the end ,,,,brilliant
