My handbrake on my AWD is rubbish, it doesn't hold that well, never has.
I've just fitted new discs, and before that I had new cables and new shoes, and it is still rubbish.
Anyone got the same problem AWD or FWD?
Any tips to make it work better?

on the inside of the center arm rest (front of the car) you will notice a little panel/cover, lever that off, inside is a torx adjuster, try adjusting it. Forgive my memory but i think anti clockwise is to tighten it. (that works on an 850 T5, not 100% if it'll work on an AWD). Good Luck!!

Cheers Niles mate, but I've already done that.
It feels really soft like the shoes aren't biting properly. It a bit better since I fitted the new discs, but still nowhere near what my cousins V70's is like (3 or 4 clicks and its fully on).

Watch you don't tighten it up too much and have the shoes rubbing a bit
SMOKE SMOKE AND MORE SMOKE!! Not that i've done it :p

When I first got it, the friction pads had come away from the shoes, and were jammed against the drum.

Ditto, I reckon the PO of mine bought the test certificate...
I did the same job on my old 850T5 but never realised how expensive it was going to be on the AWD.
It flew through it's test the other day but I nearly choked the tester when he said the handbrake was "a bit poor". He looked a bit scared at my reaction that it had cost hundreds to put right and was new from the lever back.
Mine works fine, but several notches above optimum. If I tighten the adjuster to bring it down the brakes bind and I lose MPG. I know how to live with it now.

Got the parts quite cheap really, especially since they were all genuine volvo parts! (Big Thankyou to Rufe!!!) The new rear discs came with brand new caliper bracket bolts (which was good because I had to grind one of them out on the offside), and were cheaper than buying from gsf or eurocarparts

I adjusted mine up for the MOT then eased it back after it'd passed!
alway been rubbish and as it's an Auto I just leave it in 'P'.
