After seeing that im really really considering a nice Volvo for a first car again. My Dad seems ok with it cause he knows im not going to be somone to be thrashing my car about. Only thing im worried about is petrol, I think an 850 or somthing will be much worse on fuel than a 306 HDi ???
Another masterpiece. Laugh a minute!!
as always tho the impossible pranks scripted in for a laugh, ie the stereo remote for May's radio working without being inline of sight even tho its an infra-red remote :cuckoo:

And crashing into a hut thing whilst trying to park quietly. Do they think we're so thick that they need to put gags into the show?
And crashing into a hut thing whilst trying to park quietly. I think the scripted parts of the show are starting to overtake the normal stuff, hope they don't go spoiling what was a great show. I've beggun to notice that the laughter when they're in the studio is starting to sound more and more like "Canned" laughter(Bit like those old 70's sitcom's).

Post 238605 by volvoturboman on 2009-06-29 00:59:14

The show is still great and no matter if its scripted sceens or not they are still very very funny. I enjoyed tonights alot especially as I had my first Volvo when I was 18 and it was a 740. I spent many times going side ways on the grass, it brought back alot of memories. It proved what I always said a big Volvo like that is the best starter car and thats the second Volvo to win a top gear fun comp. It was a shame to see such a nice Volvo get destroyed though, I'd have given that a nice home, as I would have the Veyron.

Nice to see JC is still fond of the Volvo models he does own an XC90 though,That Mclaren is still the king of cars in my mind :hail: Russ

Hmmmmmmm, Im still not keen on the daft, setup stuff. Better than last weeks show, but not by much. How nice did that Lambo sound though! mmmmmmmm. Didnt think those Mercs where that fast either! Jesus :eye-poppi
Nice to see JC is still fond of the Volvo models he does own an XC90 though,That Mclaren is still the king of cars in my mind :hail: Russ
I had a vague suspicion that JC would get a Volvo and it probably was the best car there and safest one at that. The McLaren F1 is in my mind the best supercar...ever.

Post 238646 by Filterlab on 2009-06-29 12:34:34

Well thank goodness that the second episode was back up to the normal quality of Top Gear, last week's was utter sh*te! I loved the Volvo/shed bit. :)
Nice to see JC is still fond of the Volvo models he does own an XC90 though,That Mclaren is still the king of cars in my mind :hail: Russ
Agree about the F1. When you think about it would you normally expect a 15 year old car to give it's modern equivalent (I use that term loosely!) such a close run? I accept that the top speed of the youngster showed to the end of the drag but seriously where are you ever going to get to use it? The McLaren held it's own at the start and over speeds that are within bounds on a normal UK road. Just consider which other car you could own where you thought the Veyron was a cheap alternative?

Post 238666 by p fandango on 2009-06-29 14:36:48

over a normal 1/4mile drag the McLaren would of beat the Bugatti easily i wonder if Coventry council will close the ring road for me to have a play like the did in Dubai
Did you see the stuff on the desks? picture of will young, teeth whitening kit?
I haven't been through the whole thread but did you see the Stig trying to work the photocopier?? Again a poor show - the 17 yr old thing was lame. I think its now death by a thousand cuts.

I accept that TG is not a car show but a car themed light entertainment show. Now knowing this I cant think of any such series that do not have their duff episodes and regular spots/skits that fall flat over time. I think for series 14 they should start accepting viewer suggestions for tests/races as I am sure that a few fresh ideas could prove equally funny. Oh and to my shame I laughed at the Volvo crash and remote activation! I have noticed on thing this series, the hot totty in the audience that always get placed front and centre, the ones behind Stephen Fry were quite pleasing to the eye :D
I have noticed on thing this series, the hot totty in the audience that always get placed front and centre, the ones behind Stephen Fry were quite pleasing to the eye :D
They were the only decent things in the show ;) Well, apart from the cars! Come on Top Gear, listen to Joe Public, start doing some real world tests of the HUNDREDS of cars the come out every year. Some of which your viewers can actually afford to own :bullwhip: Its not rocket science is it, for gods sake!

Post 238712 by p fandango on 2009-06-29 19:49:21

i quite like it being an entertainment show but i just wish they would do it properly, i just don't like the fakery they put in to get the laughs. Take a bit more effort & make it funny because of the challenges/tests they do, not because they think they can get away with camera tricks/editting/staging etc if you want to know what car has the highest MPG & best to go down the shops in watch Fifth Gear

I love them to do a feature of "my car is faster than yours". Basically Joe Bloggs turns up at the track in his modded Volvo, Cossie, BMW etc etc and Stig burns them round the track to set a laptime. There is so much car boasting going on (I once had a colleague who claimed his Maestro Turbo top speed was 160mph and 0-60 in 5 secs - you know the type...). Some real world stuff would be good. I'm sticking with my prediction that next year an ALL NEW line up and format will be introduced - it has to as this format and presenters are on borrowed time. JC may just hang in there by his finger tips...

A friend of mine had one that was seriously modified (by the previous owner) and it was timed at 5.6 to 60mph. To knock another half a second off though would be astonishing - if impossible. :)

Now that would be good viewing, and quite funny when the Joe Bloggs Impreza engine or gearbox goes pop in front of the camera's, whilst JC and Co p**s themselves in the background. (not funny for Joe though!) There's LOADS of ideas out there and if the producers are REAL petrol heads, they should come up with loads more stuff. The Car/Boat thing was GREAT, the BMW 330D racing was also great. They do think of a lot of good stuff, but its the corny setups that spoil it. What about the TG does the Cannonball 3000, in £500 sheds??? Now that'd good.

Watched TG tonight after recording it on BT vision. Brilliant. The retaining of May's remote was a stroke of comedic genious! I want the new Atom too. Added to the list for the dream garage.
