Can my bonnet be saved?

Recently bought a V70 in Cassis which generally has a good body apart from two areas. One is the bonnet, the other the roof.
Ill do another thread for the roof so ill talk about the bonnet only in this one. Basically it looks like someones tried scrubing something off the middle of the bonnet with a wire brush/wool/scouring pad (delete as appropriate) and is a bloody mess.
Ive not done anything other than to try metallic t-cut it which did nothing. You can feel all the little scratches to the touch though after polishing with Autoglym super resin all is smooth. Im unsure whether the scratching is only in the laquer or in the paint underneath so im wondering what to do?

Depends hows deep the scratches are, can you feel them with your finger nail?. Looking at that photo you may be looking at a repaint, you could try flatting a small patch back with some 1200's wet and dry used very wet, then polish back up with a cutting compound (Like G3). I must however warn you that if there's not much paint on the car or the scratches are very deep then you could well sand through the laquer.

I like these little challenges. Gave it a litte rub with the compound earlier and its looking a lot better. Started p155ing down so ive had to leave it for now but im sure it'll come good.
If you think thats bad then wait till you see the nitro morsed roof!

I have a V70R AWD bonnet in Cassis, would let it go for £50 in excellent condition, only thing is i am in London,

Personally I'd take his arm off if I was in need of a bonnet, and I was offered that lot.
But as I've got a white 850 it's not going to look to good or fit to well :parhmph:

Personally I'd look at replacing the bonnet - try Salvos or a similar Volvo specialist.

The last time I saw a scratch pattern like that one, it was on my Aunt's old skoda, which had suffered the wrath of some shed roofing felt in a bad storm!
Might polish out, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

That's a drive and a half. When I had a house in Montrose, I did the journey from Surrey to there, collected a van full of furniture and then did the return journey the same day. I spent 17 hours on the road. :B_steerin

If the bonnet will fit in the back of my V40 I'll be in Guildford next week... If you can arrange something...

Phil on Imps again. Look, PA, you could have a lovely patchwork car. In the 60s, Hillman Imps were purchased by the Police for duties around Loch Lomond. some were blue, the others white. So the doors, bonnet and bootlid were swapped on all the cars, to produce blue and white cars. Not a lot of people know that. Not a lot of people care
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Still, for the money, I'd buy the doors and bonnet for that price and then look for a car that needed them!:funkybana

If Christine keeps playing up I'll be looking for a T5R and she will be down the scrapyard. But it's going to be an 850 :deal:

After looking at the bonnet again its fooked in all honesty.
Thanks BSR as it does look better but i think its needs respraying or replacing.
If only the guy in London lived a little closer.
Post 252585 by Al115 on 2009-08-28 19:23:58
"the guy" is none less than legendary T5-breaker Gary aka Siamblue... I'd ay it'd be worth the trip - a day, some fuel, £50 and ten minutes with a spanner and you're done! Scrapper's'd probably give you a tenner for the old bonnet too...
Post 252586 by Al115 on 2009-08-28 19:24:33
Athough if the roof also needs spraying you might be able to get both roof and bonnet sorted out for not much more than the cost of the roof alone... just a thought.
