Right, I'm the Best Man for my brothers wedding, and I've yet to write the speech. So I thought I'd ask you guys (being the brilliant fonts of knowledge you are) if you have any tips for the speech, or any tips on being a brilliant best man in general. Cheers Bomb

Well mate I was best man for my brother 3 months ago and to be honest I don't think there are any tips persay. Just being there for your bro to keep his nerves in check and keeping the craic goin is the main thing. One thing I would add however regarding the speech is memorise it. I started to get tripped up with reading mine so in the end up I threw it on the table and spoke from the heart. I forgot everything I wrote and because I said it from the heart it went down very well. My brother (the groom) never wrote a speech and said the whole thing from heart, the only person who knew he never really gave it a second thought till the wedding day was me, and I have to say it was seamless.

from public speaking before (but not as a BM) Learn your speech and practise it but also use cards and number the cards and use one of those string tags to keep them all in order. Dont drink too much beforehand and enjoy it. This will possibly be the only time in your life when all the women in the room have to shut up and listen to you :D Keep your eyes wandering and look at everyone, that way they wont be able to look away in case you look at them and find them inattentive!

write your speech then learn it off by heart. take a sheet of paper with it on but only use it in emergencies (if you have a total blank!!). instead set out some prompts on a bit of paper, include subjects, reminders to look up and engage the audience, look towards people mentioned in the speech but otherwise look around and make everyone feel included. don't try to crack jokes and speak from the heart.:blahblah: practice, out loud , on your own ( in the car on the way to work) remember the speech is a small part of your job on the day, ensure everyone is in the right place at the right time, check with the venue that everyone is working to the same timetable, keep the parents happy (and possibly apart!!!) Oh! and cop off with the prettiest bridesmaid!!!! :dgrin:
