Just had my stag weekend

Got back from my stag do yesterday evening. We went on a 'Bushcraft weekend' in Norfolk - learning to forage, build shelters, start fires using natural materials. A really brilliant experience actually. I'm no stranger to camping and outdoors stuff but it did open my eyes to many things. The other eye opener was being forced to do some of it dressed in a Borat "mankini" and fairy wings. Damn those nettles sting. However I did get partial revenge because the smile was wiped off my friends' faces when they had to watch me, back turned to them, squatting over the campfire cooking their breakfast. Burnt sausage anyone?

Sounds like you had a good crack! I love watching a bit of Ray Mears, I think if I was plane crash I would want him and Hugh Winjing Bottom. sorry I mean Stool! (sausage)

Am I the only person who looks at Ray Mears and things "hmmm...there must be something called the 'pie tree' in Britain's woods'?

Sounds like a great weekend! Any photos of the mankini and wings?

Yes, photos!

There may have been some photos taken, but unsurprisingly not with my own camera so you'll have to wait. Worryingly the weekend was conducted in the grounds of a large private school. Every time I hear a siren I hide.

I might post one, but pixellate the face a la those pics in SAS autobiographies. It did get nicknamed the 'combat mankini' at one point. One instructor was recently out the forces and didnt even blink when he saw it, but explained he was fresh into civvy street and had recently walked around the US base (where he was stationed) in Kandahar dressed as a Taliban 'for a laugh'. That takes bigger balls than mine...as you will see if I post some pics.

These stage weekends have come a long way from a night out at Bernard Manning's Embassy Club and a curry afterwards. That was the stag night of my first marriage in 1991.

Mine was fairly staid I reckon. £100 inc instructors, loan of equipment, parking, all the food and accomodation. Fair enough the accom was a forest floor listening to f@rts and snoring drift through the trees, but it was cracking fun.

We had f@rts and snoring too, when Manning was performing!

If it were a choice surviving with Bear Grylls or Ray Mears you just have to look at their bellies to decide that eating puss filled cockroaches swings it for me - bring on the pie tree I say..
Pure. Comedy. Genius
I was going to get me coat after that one tbh. Sounds like it was a good weekend- far more positive way of having a stag do!
