Hi Guys, I'm in the process of selling my Audi RS6 and I'm looking for a car that's as practical (estate) as safe (4wd) and not too far off on the performance stakes. I hope I'm in the right place for advice on the subject! I'm getting rid of my RS6 as the fuel consumption is hilarious. Around town it is 9mpg, and on a motorway I'll nudge 22. Fuel prices are only going one way! The wheels are enourmous (19in) and the wife has a habit of bouncing them off kerbs. So, I'm looking for a volvo - I've been a closet fan ever since the T5, then T5-Rs came out many moons ago. I'm looking to up the fuel economy to mid 20s to 30s - is it an unreasonable goal for one of the performance models? I was thinking about a V70R, byt the wheels look just as easy to kerb, and am I right in thinking mid teens around town for fuel? What sort of milage can these cars happily get up to without major failures? One thing I'm hoping to do is release some cash from the sale of the 6 so I'm hoing not to have to meet any big bills in the near future, but I would like a slightly cheaper car. Are there many out there with warranties thesedays? Are there common faults? Servicing-wise, I'd have a plug and oil service every year for £4-500 on the 6, then a timing belt change every 4 years for £1,400 (front of the car has to come off), is there a similar servicing regime with these cars? Many thanks for sticking through this pretty long post, and lookig forward to hearing from you. Greg

Hello I have not owned a Phase 2 70 series, so I am not the best one to comment. I have owned a MY03 A6 avant 2.5 TDI SE CVT and that was very pleasent to own! The P2 Volvo has a similar build to the A6 so it should be a straight forward transition. You will experience a decent drop in performance however, I think the RS6 & V70R will weigh the same, the RS has 50% more power though! Enjoy your search.

:welcome: Buddy :D What age of car are you looking for ? A P1 V70R ( 97 - 00 ) or later ? Fuel consumption isnt great but should be better than the 6, i get 18 - 19mpg out my T5 around town and upwards of 30 on a run. Ive had it as high as 45mpg on a run, but thatwas driving like a Vicar  Anyway welcome to the mad house, your deffo in the right place :B_thumb:

Thanks guys, I prefer the more original shape, so a P1 or an 850 T5, T5-R or an R would be my preference. If you know of any good ones, I'd be grateful to hear from you. With the 6, we have a couple of extremely well-respected independants (Grizz at Unit 20 and Doug at MRC, or Kim Collins at QST) that will give you proper service. Is there someone that's well respected for the T5s or Rs? Is hould say that I'm north of the border too. Cheers, Greg

How far North Greg ? You just missed a belting T5R, manual. Tomcat on here was selling his but got no interest so now he's keeping it. Theres plenty on Ebay, Auto Trader and Pistonheads.com is always a good one :B_thumb: If you see any you like on them post up a link and no doubt us good people will cast judgement ;) Theres also the Volvo Cars For Sale section at the bottom of the main page. Hope this helps buddy :D Lee P.S. - im from Prestwick, South Ayrshire, Origonally been in England about 8 years now, only cause my Mrs is here or id be back up north ;)

Welcome to the forum :) The 850 is going to be a completely different animal to your RS6 and the performance drop will be vastly noticeable. However they are superb fun to drive and provide many smiles per mile - plus the mpg will be dramatically better, we're currently returning around 25 to the gallon combined. Regards the bills the 850's are fairly bulletproof in general (that's just jinxed me lol). Cambelts are every 80k (if my memory serves me) and there is normally someone breaking one on here if you need parts. We have some really friendly Volvo dealers and Independents on here to help keep costs down. Good luck with your search and keep us updated :)
