This one is really interesting. Has anyone here been pulled over, or else failed an MOT due to HIDs as a fitment (as opposed to being out of adjustment)?

What happened when you were stopped ?
What happened when you were stopped ?
they go over the whole car with a fine tooth-comb, we were in Newquay in my bro's limo VW for RTTS & the police pulled us into the lay-by where VOSA were waiting. Even got the creeper out & looked underneath. Spent about an hour looking round it, not sure how but they didn't find anything wrong lol

Just out of curiosity what does the headlamp wash wipe / Levelling have to do with a hid conversion ? My 855 has both by the way ;)

Same as whether self-leveling is fitted with HID's, this is breaking vehicle constructions regulations which VOSA enforce
Just out of curiosity what does the headlamp washer / Levelling have to do with a hid conversion ?
the self-leveling is so you don't blind approaching drivers as the lights are clearer/brighter. Not sure about the cleaning tbh

As long as there is the correct beam pattern and alignment then it shouldn't fail an MOT.

i have my headlights set normal and not had an " Angry Flash " yet :D Saying that i bumped one side up on the kerb whilst collecting something from a house, Mrs sat in the car so i left it running and the lights on, oooopppsss !!!!! Almost everyone coming towards it had to put their hands over infront of their eyes as it was tooooo bright :sorry: Had to tell the Mrs to turn them off to just the sidelights.

I think as long as they are properly adjusted so you don't blind everybody, you should be ok, I've been running a set for years and never had a problem, either with MOT's or the law
Just out of curiosity what does the headlamp wash wipe / Levelling have to do with a hid conversion ? The omega`s have automatic headlight leveling fitted so ou cant adjust the the beam level inside the car does it automatically for you

Sounds like the enforcement of mobile phone laws - all p:ss and wind. About twenty years ago, someone told me that all Labour governments ever do is legislate, legislate and legislate a bit more. And guess what - that is exactly what happened. Problems are 'solved' by making everyone a 'criminal'. And then the laws are never enforced - so we become a lillte more cultured into the mentality of 'getting away with it'. Bunch of chavs looting a phonebox OPPOSITE a police station two nights ago, told the law as I was watching it, did they turn up? One guess. Politicians? I would chuck 'em all into the sea if only they weren't so oily.

They dont self level but an effortless flick of a switch and hey presto, 3 different settings :D And lets face it everything about Volvo's is effortless ;)
They dont self level but an effortless flick of a switch and hey presto, 3 different settings :D And lets face it everything about Volvo's is effortless ;)
that load levelling mate not self levelling, Nivomats would count as self levelling

Post 270572 by cameron on 2009-11-23 16:03:55

I dont have self levelling Nivomats, but i can adjust the headlight level from inside the car electrically ;)

I had 2 MOTs now with my Aftermarket HIDs and it never failed......

Post 270627 by nobananas on 2009-11-23 19:42:07

It's correct that HIDs have to be self leveling and have means of self cleaning (which can be just washers unbelievably) to be legal but what's legal and what is an MOT requirement are two entirely different things. For example reversing lights are a legal requirement after 1984 (I think) but your MOT tester won't care whether they work or not and also window tints that are darker than a certain level will get a pull by the plod but again your MOT tester won't care (providing it's not on the screen) that being said I wish the plod would stop sending people to us with producers for window tints when we have no means of checking them ! You pulled em' for it you check it yourselves !!
