Inspired by Sebasteeno and his current situation I thought I would start this thread rather than hijack his. So what is the worst car or the biggest shed you have ever owned? Mine was july last year, I bought a mitsubishi Shogun from a dealer, he told me that it was an import which I didnt mind, I thought the odometer was in km etc etc. The car was mot'd prior to my collection so I thought it must be ok. By the time I got home there was oil everywhere so I took it to a friend of mine, it turned out that the chassis was rotted and the car was a write off, there were countless problems. I called the dealer who wouldn't give me my money back at all, I quoted legislation from trading standards which didn't make a difference. In a moment of genious I called the MOT station and told them that I was coming back (still the same day lol) with VOSA to re-test the vehicle. Sphincters started twitching and that night I had two men come and take the car away giving me my money back. I never counted the cash my wife did, when I got back inside the house she was grinning like a cheshire cat.....They had given us £300 too much lol Still the worst car I ever owned though.

My Range Rover. It's also the best... Spent as much on it in repairs in 6 months as I did when I bought it but it's great!

Don't tell anyone. A Vauxhall Victor, I only had it for a short time and it found it's way into a scrapyard due to a small problem with the bodywork. I was driving through Gloucester when I went over a kerb, not a big one, but as the car went up there was a loud cracking sound. I went on thinking that it must have been something like wood or the pavement. Drove it down to Dorset and the noise got worse, until I stopped and got underneath to have a look. The body in front of the sill had cracked on a weld and was moving up and down as I drove, gradually breaking apart. So I drove it into the nearest scrapyard and they gave me £10 for it. I hated the thing, bench seats, three speed column change, hand break lever in the dash, and so many blind spots you could miss a bus and a car passing you side by side. It looked like this but was green Image

Post 282245 by daveforber on 2010-01-16 21:26:35

That's easy. A 2001 Ford Focus, which I inexplicably sold a 2001 S60 to buy because I thought it would be cheaper to run. It broke a camshaft. £1,200 to fix as it fecked the top end. It broke its power steering rack. Quoted £250 to fix and didn't. Full rear brakes -- I know it's maintenance, but £500 on new shoes, drums and bearings. All in 9 months. And to top it off, I managed to get 26mpg at best out of it vs 24mpg in the S60. And it was absolute rubbish to drive. No front grip, excessive body roll, no power. So what I did was sell a perfectly decent, chipped car and spent *all* the money on buying and fixing that pile of junk. My wife would disagree and say that a 1989 Mazda 626GT was the worst car I owned. It did break down more often in fairness, but it cost £200 and I only spend £200 fixing it. And it was quick and good to drive, if full of rot.

Peugeot 205 GTI 1.6 Swapped for Sierra XR4i mentioned elsewhere. After all the money spent putting the Sierra right, I should have learned. But didn't... knackered engine, headgasket on way out, debris in radiator/cooling/heater hoses, and a clutch fork that gave up the ghost. Fortunately, it only had to last a few weeks before I got my first company car - a Rover 218SLD....

A Escort Turbo Diesel, bought it off ebay, drove it 1 mile, the cambelt broke :wow: Smashed the camshaft and the carriers, needed a new head. Then it developed a taste for altenators! I px'd it for 2003 Mondeo TDCi.

Post 282263 by Tomcat on 2010-01-16 22:55:20

I owned an Opal Manta for all of about 3 hours, it was a piece of crap that I swapped my Escort for, I only realised when I got home how bad the Manta was so I went back and demanded my own car back (thankfully the guy lived 5 minutes further down the same road).

If we're talking 'worst' as in 'most cash thrown at and still no better' then it's my missus' 850 T5 (sorry !). But if it's 'worst' as in 'fecker won't start again !' then it's probably the old Chrysler Avenger I used to have, but it was only 50 quid !

MG Montego 2.0i. I bought it from a mate for £150 as a cheap run around for work. It (was) White with a LOT of rust around the arches, Windscreen, Pretty much everywhere. Even had rusty watery streaks running down the sides. I didn't mind driving it really and was funny as hell when I hit the horn. You remember that bit in the film 'Lost Boys' When gramps sounds his horn? Well mine was worse than that, As it had one pipe missing too. LOL. I got pulled over once and the copper asked if it had MOT (Which it did) And he was like "really?" yes officer, "No really?" LOL. After a while though the engine started missing quite badly, So I took it onto one of my dads demolition sites and had fun crushing it up with a Komatsu 210.
I hope you still threw the B~astards in!
Oh yes trading standards were informed and launched a full investigation. Vosa were also notified after I took a scan of the mot and date stamped a load of pictures of the 17 mot failures on the car. I never found out what happened but I did all that I could.

i bought a 96 laguna, non turbo diesel just before xmas for 300quid with t&t, just to use as a work horse instead of the volvo. I bought it on the saturday evening and i managed to get 100 miles on a tenner. Took it to my mates garage to look underneath it on the monday, all seemed ok so when i left i floored it out the car park and jesus christ you should have heard it. i pulled over 100 yards down the road and there was bits of crap french gearbox housing all over the road lol At the time i found it hilarious cos i know i should have just stuck it out with the volvo, plus i should have known never to buy another french car as my first car was a 4 speed clio 5hitbox http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss179/longdogger/sheds/laguna-Copy.jpg see if this works

Post 282324 by volvoturboman on 2010-01-17 11:18:06

My old Renault 19 diesel (non turbo). It started out with the water system, it was replaced one peice at a time (entire system, hoses, pipes, pumps, radiator) only to discover it was the head that was warped and causing to much pressure on the water system. After fixing all that the gearbox gave up and within 7 miles I had lost all 5 gears. Replaced with a second hand one which lasted one month, so another gearbox. Then MOT time and my god what a list, every single maitainence part plus a rear axle??? What car ever needs a rear axle. Then when we thought it couldn't go wrong again I had to dive home from work on night because my son took really sick. I got home put him in the car and on the way to the doctor thedrive shaft snapped. I rolled it into Tesco's car park and got a breaker to collect it. My son had febular convultions (think thats how its spelled) he had 3 in total but that was his first one. Wentout the next day while Ben was in hospital and bought a Vauxhall Cavalier 1.7 TDCD, one of the best I ever owned. Thats why I hate french cars and will never ever own another.

I don't know if I've ever had a worst car..... they are all rubbish in one way or another... but I suppose the 850 has been the most unreliable... 850 = 2 engines, 2 gearboxes 1 turbo 240 = lots of things wrong with it Primera = looks like a taxi Maestro = roof linig kept falling down MK3 Golf = never past its MOT for a variety of reasons Manta = Rust, rust and more rust MK3 Escort = too hard suspension MK4 Escort = Rust.... Subaru Sumo = Just completely dangerous

1968 850 mini , never started in the mornings, used to smash hand on dash when change to 3rd, but what do you expect from an old british heap lol. mind you that was in 1988. recently a vaux senator 3.0 24v auto as needed a tow car one weekend. drank petrol like an wino does cider , smoked its bag of under hard throttle. owned it for 3 days which was enough , still turned a profit when sold so got petrol money back lol. had a few wrecks in early years of driving but late 80's there where a load more around. another from memory was a mk2 lotus cortina that had paper mashey inner rear wheel arch's

Volvo S80 T6 it was the best worst car owned all of £7k back then. After that Fiat Regretta, but saying that I managed to get 10,000 miles for £200 with just a few hiccups till I purposefully drove her into death! Austin Maestro Van was pretty awfull but in some ways marginly better than a Renault Extra 1.9D van that bloo a head gasket and I got a decent wheel barrow and plaster wisk free with the maestro that gave good service. The volvo was nice but so so ****te all at the same time with its conflicted gaytronic that wouldnt hold 3rd gear on full throttle although 2nd would do 100mph

Mrs Flatout's Fiat (BIS) 126 was about as pants as they come. From brand new, and with three head-gaskets and only 1000 miles on the clock, Fiat virtually gave her a Panda in exchange. Which was, I have to say, a very funky little bargain basement motor (1000 Fire) that 18 years on, is still running, now sent over to Portugal where her brother now own's it. In relative terms, all my Imps were terribly unreliable, but I still loved them!

Land Rover freelander 1.8. great looking car but boy was this a money pit :eye-poppi. First thing was the drivers door window regulator, closely followed by the engine dropping a cylinder liner writing off the engine, then the sunroof runner snapped jamming the sunroof open, then the runner board anchor snapped then............ And swallowed plugs, points, leads, cap, rotor, solenoid, starter, etc. Then when it finally ran chonged its way thru three clutch cables in the fortnight I was unlucky enough to be its keeper . . . NRJ786M. Such a piece of sh1te I'm surprised you weren't from S****horpe. ;) Or the E12 520 BMW auto which we turned into a 528 manual. 200bhp with a 4.3 diff! Putting it into gear was like "Pinning the Donkey" and when you did find a slot, it would crunch into it. It had comfy seats though, that a puppy that we had bought from Leigh Cats and Dogs home kindly shat all over on the way home. I had to drive for about 5 miles with my head out of the window gagging :D I traded the ****ty Horizon (literally) in for the Datsun Cheery 60A or something, which needed an MOT, so i took it to the local MOT place, and he advised me that the engine was just about to drop out due to the subframe being so rotten, and that i could be "Fred Flintstone" if i pulled the carpets back, so i scrapped it ;) Im sure ive had a few more bangers, but those to stand out by far

My mum had one of these... http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/images/satellite/attach/jpg.gif :lol: Let's list the spec... 1.3l 45bhp no airbag no abs 13" pepperpots Fm radio When some little p1sspot came down our road sideways and made one side considerably shorter than the other, the insurance paid - out £200 more than my mum paid for it! (£545) Best car she ever owned!

Well I've had a nightmare Corrado G60 (mint but needed engine rebuild), 3 Renault 5 GT Turbos, Fiesta RS Turbo, my current T5R which all gave me grief. All good cars but turned into sheds due to previous owners neglect or incompetance. Least grief cars I've has were a FSH Renault 19 16v (brilliant car to drive), FSH Renault Clio 16V (prob the most fun car I've ever had) and a 313bhp T5 bought from Shaun 850 on here. Gave that car the loud pedal for 10,000 miles straight and never spent a penny.
