Sounds like the CEM is not talking to the REM
would you know how to get that fixed
As the car is multiplex wired, unfortunately no. I think this is a job for your nearest independant or main dealer. Failing that a qualified auto electrician as this is not one you're going to fix with a circuit tester :( Just a thought, you could try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting after a short time, the electrical system may have its knickers in a twist and this might just sort it out. I'm sorry, I don't know anyone in N.I. to recommend. Euro car Parts in Belfast, 02890 689 700 may be able to recommend someone. HTH John
cheers john i have the obd and software i will connect it tomorrow to see if i have any luck there is a specialist near 5 miles away the car is driving no problems but the stuff mentioned above thanks for the advice
Have you tried the reset of the UEM yet? In the car, key in the ignition, position II (not running), pull UP on both front window switches for at least 8 seconds, release them, key out of ignition, now using the remote fob whilst STAYING IN THE CAR, Lock, unlock, lock & unlock (yes you do it twice). This resets the UEM (upper or front electronic moduel). HTH
badger that didn't work but i was able to get door card of and it is the pipe that slides that is stuck i put some lub on it and it worked for a while so i have thought of buying a new one or refurbed one any body have one available cheap as funds low and willing to post to me in northern irealnd
The place where i contacted about a new one told me that the new lock might need programmed after installation is it true or is he fibbbing to get me to bring the car back to him
now the lock is screwing with me it stopped working so i took the door card of again and as soon as it was off it started working again with out doing anything what so ever so put more fluid on it and i will see how things going but i am still after a lock mechanism

They posted the items to me. Does sound like the mechanism is tight though and would need lubrication.

thats what i thought richie when i looked at the look there does seen to be black box plug that would hold electronics if you know what i mean
boot latch is £141.00 from dealer. i think ul find its a wiring fault.possibly through the tailgate hinge. check the wiring
I fingered it out I took the mechanism out and had a look it is the wee white box (9990.6518.0) the rod that rotates was stiff so i took it apart greased it all up and at the moment it is working so if any body nose where where i could get the white box that contains the motor and rod point me in the right direction cheers every body for your help
Hi Scooter guess what yesterday I got home and cant open the tailgate?? All fuses are OK and the Central locking can be heard working, my question is how did you get the trim/door card off the tailgate??? Thanks Dave
if yours is the same model at the top of the door card right behind the wiper you can bend it out just enough to see down if you look right down you will see a pile of white plastic at the bottom right underneath the white plastic you will see a piece of black plastic square roughly 1cm in the path of the handle pole push it down you should here a click that should unlock the door
Thanks for that, mine is a MY03 V70 T5 SE so I think it should be the same. I will have a go tomorrow and let you know how succesful or not its been. Dave
mds if you here the central locking it is probably the handle pole has slipped out of the top clip the wee clips car be bought from motor factors about 25p
Hi Thanks everyone, just opened it up took out the lock as I couldnt see anything obvious but the solonoid had become completely dry and very difficult to move, cleaned it and lubricated everything with a light silicon grease. All back together and working like new. Whole thing took less than an hour so I guess I just save a gudzillion pounds at Volvo rates. Just going to do the other P2 V70 now as a precaution, the P1 V70 seems fine (12 years young and never misses a beat, probaly temting fate now) Dave

Dont believe it this has just happened to my 2005 V70 t5 needed to get in boot and the tailgate wont open + on key fob i have a boot open button it dont work nightmare any help needed
follow my instructions it works now mine is working 100% anymore info just post or pm me
just for info if it helps....... the v70 p2 do suffer with tailgate lock/unlock issues, open the tailgate,on the left hand side behind the panel that opens is a fuse box.....that fuse box does all the electrics on the rear of the car, the relays in there control the central locking, it has a seperate relay for lock & unlock & for each rear door/tailgate/& petrol cap, apparently these models suffer with water getting into the fuse box,be it wet or damp, they corrode the circuit board inside the fuse box, also the conections on the relays may be affected, just pushing or moving the relays can restore the connection to the tailgate. thus sorting the problem, hopefully its just bad connections, rather than a faulty part,it seems that when its faulty it only supplies 8 or 9 volts to the solonoid which isnt enough to trigger it so it wont open, on the plug that goes onto the solonoid is a grey wire & a yellow wire, ontop of each other, these are lock & unlock, check the voltage on each one,ie when lock & unlock,
