Doing the screwball rally in September so I've been looking for a T5 estate to purchase. Car has to be less than £750 as stated in the screwball rules.
Thought I only had a chance of a 850 T5 but have been looking for a few months now on the off chance the right one came up at the right price.
Was searching autotrader the other day when a 1997 V70 T5 appeared. 146k miles on it. Full leather interior. CD spec. Sunroof. Electric everything. Faulty rear wiper but apart from that everything electric works a treat.
Only big issue with it was quite a bad oil leak from the rear of the engine.
Went for test run. Ask guy how much he wanted and he said £50 less than what he advertised. Deal done instantly.
Picked it up last weekend. Mechanically is sound and goes like a train. Forgot how good the standard T5 was. My Dad had a 1998 V70R until recently. Always found the 4WD took something away. He now has a 2005 V70R which is a different beast all together.
How much do you think I paid for mine??

Thats a very good price.
Remember seeing that one and avoiding it because it had the wrong wheels for a T5. More fool me, looks like you got a good one.

Yup.
Went across Europe 5 years ago myself in a VR6 Corrado. Awesome doesn't even cover it. Did the ring also.
Been wanting to do it again for years.

I cant believe how many of these 'scrapper' rallies there are now and hadn't heard of that one until reading your post. Absolutely love the idea of them and am envious , you will have memories to last a lifetime !
Best of luck

Hope so.
If it goes well, hope to do it every year, if the missus allows..................................
which will be 'NO'
Could be my last chance for a while!

Oil leak sorted. It was the usual turbo return seal. Its amazing the mess such a small leaking seal can make. Glad to have it sorted though :)

Well I made it round the rally. Not that I had any doubts of course!!
2810 miles from door to door in 6 days. Thats 470 on average each day.
Manage 142 mph on the autobahn (GPS confirmed). Was still going but some German got in my way :(.
Absolutely fanastic experience which I will be repeating at some point.
The V70 was the perfect thing for the job. Big, comfy, did 31 mpg when cruising and also went like a train when required.
Averaged 23.6 mpg on the autobahns which considering how hard we were going I thought was amazing.
Happy days. Car will be off to its new owner in a few days. :(
