I've got a bit of a hankering for one. I've read a few reviews which mention lack of dynamism, torque steer and all the obvious comments. Anyone got any personal experience with them?

My dad had the 2.3 LPT 9-5, lovely motor not that quick though and the handling best described by my dad as 'more like flying a jumbo jet than piloting a jet fighter'. I think you'll just find yourself going steadier in the corners and enjoying the pull down the straights - nothing a good strut brace and sports springs won't sort out. Aero's are pretty epic in the midrange - got overtaken by a very quick one up a long hill when i was driving a stock T5.

Here is a nice example in a familiar color lol http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1500674.htm

& not a bad price either. Don't like the bumpers on it, they look to Audi'ish (not sure if thats a word lol)
think its the same colour as my old mans lol

The late 2.3T engines have oil circ issues. Mates currently stripping one down as we speak. I told him it'd be cheaper to just replace it with an older 9000 lump.

Cheers fellas. Some interesting comments there. Never been a huge fan of the 900 shape to be honest, but I did see a review of the 9-3 Viggen saying "hilarious but virtually undriveable'. Sounds right up my street.

The later 2.3 or T7 engines are very good, Theyre good for a reliable 320bhp on standard internals which although it is not as strong as the earlier T5 9000 aero bottom ends as theyre good for 400bhp but the earlier gearbox's are chocolate so its swings and roundabouts. My friend is a senior saab technician and has been for about 10 years, his daily driver is a my2002 9-5 aero which has a few mods and is a very capable car! I actually considered buying one before i was offered the s70r Since the last saab 900/9-3 is based on a mk3 vauxhall cavalier he decided to make a bit of a hybrid car and his toy is a mk3 vauxhall cavalier sri/saab hybrid. It was an ongoing project which he finished in december and was running a standard-ish spec for a while but now he has decided to go whole hog and has removed the engine to build a higher spec unit. His latest engine consists of a late t7 9-5 aero cylinder head with early t5 2.0 turbo camshafts, 9000 aero bottom end, bosch green injectors, 9-3 engine mounts and a saab 9-3 viggen geabox with quaiffe atb LSD. It also has a td05-16 turbo as fitted to a mitsubishi evo 6, FMIC, full custom pipework and exhaust, fully stripped interior, saab 5 stud hubs with 310mm front brakes and will be 350-400bhp on full boost. Believe me it was very quick with just 250bhp especially weighing just 1000kg so once this new lump is fitted its going to be a bit daft i wreckon.

Tried telling him... Bloody stubborn South African :wallbash:
oops just remembered the viggen wasnt the first turbo car i was in , it was a sapphire cosworth sierra a metalic grey one and it was a taxi, back around 1992, it was only a few years old at the time, when me and my mates were in the taxi at the lights about to go on the main road we would say to raymond the driver "floor it" and he would then say "it will cost you extra" but it was worth it every time :dgrin:
