Hi Guys....Purchased a grille quite a while ago and have been messing about with it. Because the mesh area is smaller in width the original volvo slash wont fit. The V40 2004 slash does fit but costs more than the grille did. So i have tried this with the centre plastic emblem from the slash and the moose stuck on top, then mounted onto an Al-alloy plate which can be bolted onto the grille. What are your thoughts please. black one looks better mate

Post 294003 by martybelfastt5 on 2010-03-07 13:40:57

looks good but might need horn relocation,,,,

Post 294012 by thebadger on 2010-03-07 15:00:55

I like it, but I did the slash by trimming the end off the top & bottom. Takes a very sharp saw & very careful cutting, making sure you cut parrallel to the original end angle. Worth the effort though as the slash has been on volvos for quite a few years & looks like it will remain for the forseeable future!

Yes....I did wonder about the slash and whether it would look better with it or not. Cant believe how much the slash is though.

Black grille looks much better. I've also ordered the same grille sticker but in black & white.

Black one is far better(only i would put the slash back on):wiggle: And as said next thing to do now is relocate the horns down.(out of sight) walter

Ok thanks...I will look again at the slash and horns..

i'm gonna be different here and say, i think it would look better with just one badge, either the moose in the middle or the R in the corner, but still think it looks good. Are the horns on the t4s located differently? (i cant remember where they were?),its just that they seem more noticable on the 850/s/v/c70's than when i had a mesh grill on my last t4.

Black is looking good there.

Yep, like the black one, badge looks fine too. Not sure how it would look with a chrome slash across it but worth a try I'd have thought.

not too keen on that paticular badge, but the grill looks great

black with the R............ get rid of the dam moose :)

Post 296574 by t5_monkey on 2010-03-18 21:47:03

Plain back is a good look I think, even if people no longer get worried when you catch up rapidly behind them on the M-way. Image

lol..Do i detect a dislike to the mouse then t5stealth??

Post 296605 by mightywolf on 2010-03-18 23:02:22

i know what stealth means. the moose makes it look a little odd. but still ok. defo keep the r badge though. i want to put a t5 badge in the bottom corner of mine but can't justify the 25 squids it costs for it at the moment!!
i want to put a t5 badge in the bottom corner of mine but can't justify the 25 squids it costs for it at the moment!!
I had a black mesh grill on my t4, with a t4 badge in the corner, a mate got them from something called the salvo group?(i think), for £2.50. Looked good, black mesh looks very aggressive. :firedevil
Ok thanks...I will look again at the slash and horns..
hi willi, i am a new member since you posted this thread, and just read through all the threads, what did you end up doing ?? i have a s80 t6 and was thinking of changing my grille but instead of black mesh i was thinking of chrome mesh, like the jags/Bentley/ chrysler, without the volvo blue badge, wot do ya think ??

I just made one for my mates V70T5 with black meash and a little T5 badge in the corner. I made it from an old grill. Took a hell of a lot of work though and you have to make sure the outer of the grill holds its shape. It was a hassle to do but it cost a fraction of the price to make it than buy one!!!

Post 337647 by mightywolf on 2010-10-11 16:19:17

plain is always the way to go in my book!! that sounds expensive for mesh though. I got mine from a car place near me. it varied between 12 - 20 quid depending on what shape/design mesh and what colour. oh and see if you can get hold of a T6 badge for the bottom corner of the grill :)

Post 337648 by mightywolf on 2010-10-11 16:30:37

you'll have to make the T6 badge black though so it stands out on the grill.

I then put the moose back on because a few ferrari's have appeared in the town. Hehehehehe Parts for volvo's do a chrome grill frame with a black mesh, which might look quite interesting. It may also be a lot easier to play around with.

For me (and please don't take offence, I'm renowned for my lack of taste !) it looks a little bit 'cheap'. It needs something else, not sure what, maybe the surround done in a dark anthracite to contrast against the mesh of the grill but still look nice against the saffy paint.
