Hello.
Newly converted Volvo fan checking in.
I have owned a number of clio's untill I sold my 172 back in October. I was given the 850 we bought for a banger rally to run about in as I'm supposed to saving for a wedding. That failed it's Mot miserablely in feb. I picked up a '95 850 T5 last month for 500 sheets as abit of a project. The head gasket went 2 weeks later and now it won't start, so I'm pilling cash into it much sooner than I anticipated!
I'm based on north Lincolnshire.

Thanks guys. The first Volvo I bought took us round Europe in 2009.
can anyone tell me the differencE. Between the t5's with the intercooler pipe going over the engine and the ones where it goes to the side?

hello and welcome to the forum. i have had a bit of reno's oooooohhhhh la la as use to be a proud owner of a sick quick monsterous lil tungy grey r5 gt turbo (fully gt tuning and k-tec tuned) that was capable of running over 300bhp. trust me ur soon love ur t5 when u get her up and running again and sorry to hear about ur misfortune (head gasket)

Welcome. You may find that the handling aint quite up to the 172's standard! lol. But can be transformed with some upgrades. Think that the earlier 1's had the intercooler pipe that went over the engine (called a R.I.P kit, for short), and had a bit less turbo lag. I learned this on here :D
Someone who knows far more than me, will be able to tell you more, i think there is a post on here today with someone who has fitted a rip kit and their experience of it.

Yeh, the wollowyness takes abit of getting used to. I'm sure a set if coilovers would sort that out. In the Renault world 200 bhp is about the most you can achieve from a n/a engine. I have seen a few Volvo Ecu's that take you too 300. £per bhp is alot better with the Volvo engines.
I also love the noise they make. Even the old 2.0 10v made it.

The over the engine piping was on the first cars made, however Volvo found that some cars where getting icing in low temps so they changed the routing of the pipework, never really effected UK cars and as mentioned it's supposed to improve throttle response.

Some of the claims regarding the chips/re-maps are a little over exaggerated, but 40-50bhp its possible, with a panel filter and a de-cat (both cheap mods), will give you another 10-15bhp. Those 3 cheap and simple mods can transform your engine for not much cash. The 5 cylinder engines do sound fantastic, its what i love most about my car.

Ah right. 50bhp is about 3-4k in the Renault world.
I'll always remember the tunnels in Europe. Other rally cars would be asking over the cb radio which car was making the noise.

Welcome to the forum.
300bhp is achievable for not alot of money,im hoping for that out of mine and ive only spent around £500/£600.
If your good with the spanner you can save cash aswell.
