So your actually running Liam?
Yep, gonna tie a rope on to the back of yours so i run faster. Hopefully i'll be getting the car on a RR to see how its running, power wise. Then maybe another map before the end of the month.
Not going
Maybe we can arrange for the 16th - 17th at Avon or 24th at SantaPod as well? Other than that, isn't really any other days apart from 30th - 31st but the Rolling Road day is that weekend.

Going to put myself down as a maybe for the time being as not sure if I can afford both meets in the same month and Shakespeare is a good 300 mile round trip so its £60 just to get there and back. 1. As you will be over this way anyway Emlyn you can stay at mine?
Sounds like a great idea! Thanks Richard! I could definately make Shakespeare on the 31st in that case as I believe HLM is 15 miles from you and Shakespeare only 50, big difference cuts 600 miles down to around 400 max not to mension the 3 1/2 hour drive each way! If you do the 31st and thats viable count me in! Means if I save enough money for the remap on the 30th can get that done find the before and after map bhp and find before and after map 1/4 mile times... plus a few beers too :)

But i'll keep saying it, it was very hot there and i think everyone who ran would have gone a tenth or two quicker. Possibly.

Better bring a spare clutch with you if they do lol

Post 330276 by Santa on 2010-09-08 20:20:55
Better bring a spare clutch with you if they do lol
Clutch will be fine......and if not then I get to replace it something better.....like a chocolate cake. 4500 - 5000 is fine anyway lol......once the car is back I will hopefully be able to get similar times with far less agressive launches

Post 330292 by LiamT4 on 2010-09-08 22:01:28
I agree with the heat that day and possible poor runs....though where you have heat you have more grip....and also heatsoak.....not sure how it balances out
Grip is never a problem with my auto (in the dry), so having more grip would make no difference to me. I'm up for going at the end of the month as well.

(If it wasnt for the dual mass clutch I could probably launch at a more sensible rpm and in turn get a better more progressive launch).

yes he is using a straight flange mate .ps dont worry you will be fine

Post 331057 by Jamest5r on 2010-09-12 20:28:42

Ive got a straight flange mate, standard d/p with me7 manifold and decat + miltec 2.5" from there. Sounds good enough on full chatter to me, and seems to go ok. Don't get me wrong if i was a rich man i would go for a full 3" system but as normal i will wait for a cheap 2nd hand one lol

I was quoted: £180 d/p (seems excessive) £150 race cat £300 cat back all in 3" ss........£630, custom-built on the car......may try and get that angled flange back lol.....

Post 331062 by Jamest5r on 2010-09-12 20:48:37

Im happy with the straight version, but if you've got the money spare go for the angle and 3".

But yes, do the 2nd - show those boys who's STILL boss btw - I was looking at an M3 or M5 (2005 model - what a car!) a few months ago......decided to stick to Volvo's ;-)
Need to measure out 1/4 of a mile at the local industial estate for practice lol
hmm..... http://www.torquecars.com/tools/quarter-mile-time.php We need about 1,000 BHP to get sub 10 seconds........I assume the 850's weigh about 1,400kg with driver? With this in mind, I got a 14.221 so should have had 250bhp according to the calculator....... (not taking into account wheelspin, F, RWD etc).....

But i would say that the heaviest would be the s60r (mainly because of the awd) and the lightest is def the t4, over 100kgs lighter than the next. Also depends on what options they have. I'd expect an auto to weigh more than a manual and i bet the electric/heated seats weigh a fair bit too.

Well theres a problem right near the start: S70R manual has a 18t and 250bhp S70R auto has a 16t and 240bhp Surely an auto box weighs more than a manual box. I sometimes have to pick range rover auto box's at work, they weigh over 100kgs!
dunno....by the sounds of it, you'll achieve that award for best burn-out just by launching it lol ;)
I have the opposite issue to everyone else. Rather than lighting up the wheels I really bog down. If I do a high RPM launch (with the smell of clutch and the horrid thought in my mind I will be getting home on the back of a trailer) I will do a great first 60ft and pretty good frst 1/8....then everything goes average and get a 100ish terminal speed at the end.....well thats the way it was before....hopefully be slightly better on the 3rd lol. If I can just get 1 run that breaks into the late 12's I will be a very happy man.....as long as the car isn't being trailered home lol

We've got a nice quiet 1/4mile on one of our industrial estates at work, but i'll go to the Pod on a (hopefully) quiet weekend

The thing is its not that Im working during the day its that on Saturday Im working 7pm till 7am Sunday morning then back in work 7pm Sunday... its the lack of sleep more than anything. I wouldnt mind so much but I am the only forklift driver who can driver the 20 ton forklift.
wondered what i'd said that made you know i wouldn't be going, but then realised its this weekend lol. I'll PM you back now lol
I find that shift work makes me loose track of the time of week... so whats your excuse!
your looking very pale, are you sure your not ill
Well... my dilema is if we dont get the R.I.P kit fitted sometime in an evening this week I would rather get it done Sunday so its done for the next meet at the end of the month. That way ill be able to see what if any difference it makes to times as I know I can make 15.1 as it is.

It looked terrible! Then 80 miles of country roads on the way soon ruined a days work. You dont drive to the strip with under/over inflated tyres do you?

Shame all this.....Smithy will probably explode into the 13's with only FWDers trying to chase him lol

If you want to race then at the minute, going by the weather forcast, it would have to be the sat, because it looks like it will be peeing it down all sunday. I'd love to come on the sat but just can't, but there still looks like there will be enough going to make it fun everybody who does run.

First was a 13.9 @103.9 so pritty pleased with that, she seemed to hook up really well with the softer rubber i had on the front. Secound run was a 13.8 @ 103.5 so was getting better, after that i was trying to hard to get a 13.7 and boged down a few times or missed a gear lol. Seemed to me though the track wasnt as good as last time out there, maybe just me though. Well im happy as i have a good time to work on now and know i still have a few more bhp to push out of her. No Rnash.....I might not even be running end of the month (will still come to watch though if it isn't pouring it down)....meaning Smithy might go unchallenged to be the fastest over all. (Fastest of the small group of cars that have been there between Aug and October lol)

Post 335594 by Jamest5r on 2010-10-03 15:51:06

Well what a crap day for me lol, 1st run about 16s!!!! then lost all my boost??? would only go to 0.8bar in 3rd as you can see from the vid of me againt rnash looks like im going backwards once im in 3rd gear. Had a mess around and thought i had sorted it so went back into the fire up lane and one of my low profiles had popped of the bead(i had let too much air out) so it went flat pretty quick and had to reverse out take the wheel off and hunt around until i found someone with a compresser to re-inflate and it popped straight back on and sealed(still ok now). Went back to have a last run, next one to run and then the bloke in front put his car into the side barrier, stuck at the front of the queue for an hour!! and still no boost when i ran. Also some git was picking up my timing slips by mistake so i got none!!. Oh well back on the 31st to give it another bash.

I've got a few mods to use on the strip that will make it non-road legal (slicks, suspension) to get her best possible time, but i'll probably do just as many runs in normal spec anyway
do you think it would make a difference running 16's?
Higher sidewalls on the tyres on a 16" wheel, say a 50 or larger profile, (James runs 18" with 40s IIRC). Higher sidewall = more flex in the sidewall = more grip = better launch; look at most drag racing radial slicks, massive sidewalls. HTH :)

Can't wait untill next year. Should be some great races. Santa20 still has the time to beat from our group this year with a 13.3, but rnash and smithy are starting to close the gap, what will jamest5r be doing when he gets his car sorted? Don't forget that smithness ran a 14.1 on a damp 1/4mile that didn't have the best track surface, so theres more to come from him. Then theres pedro, what will BT be capable of when it (finally!) finished. Is there anyone else who's going to surprise us all. I can't wait. :D
That's excellent- the advantage of 4wd eh ;)
Yeah, launch the car like a newb because you have no control over the clutch and distroy the transmission :-( Yeah I'm on a bit of a downer with the car at the moment....S60R's are not great at 1/4 mile and really wouldn't recommend anyone use one for 1/4 miling unless they have very deep pockets.

Bummer mate- sounds like a bloody costly breakage :( I did similar to my V70s auto trans (summer 2009) in Germany- all my own fault, I had been warned about power braking lol did get my best ever time in the V70 though, not sure if it was really worth it nearly €2000 later...oops :(
