I'm pretty sure this is not good, but what could be the cause and consequences of this.
The clip was lose enough that the pipe could be removed which I did to clean the oil off and refit and tighten the clip.

that looks like a boost pipe so should be alright now you've tightened it, was it running lumpy or anything before? What model is it?

Looks like an S40 to me though may be wrong. Definately a boost pipe. Just residual oil from the turbo.

sorry should have given you a clue, its a '01 V40 T4. Not lumpy but I had noticed a bit of turbo whoosh after I fitted the boost gauge so thought I had a slight leak in the vacuum pipe, while sealing that I noticed it but not been for a drive yet

Haha wasnt far off with a guess at an S40 then! Good job you spotted it as if you have never had a boost hose blow off its a horrid experience and may leave you puzzled whats happened. Thankfully you spotted it and tightened it up. Its worth checking the other hoses too if this one worked its way loose.
