Hi all, As i am sure you have seen, another member (this time not due to lack of talent wobbly) has managed to fly a T5 off the road. Thread here: http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthread.php?t=33489 Please keep this to yourself as i have created this section and he hopefully doesnt have access to see it :) Due to insurance excesses and the usual lark he will be having to fund his next car himself, it would be too costly in the long run to go through the insurance. Wobbly contacted me today interested in having a whip round, for some of the longer serving members you will remember what we did for Wobbly some years ago now. In excess of £2000 was raised and given to him after he destroyed his C70. Emlyn (V70ETS) has been around for a while, offered to help people, offered his services to the site etc, so; I know its just after Christmas, i know there is a recessionon, that the VAT has just gone up 2.5%, and that we are all feeling the pinch, but would any of you be willing to help out a member in need? Imagine it had just happened to you with Christmas just gone etc...... It can be anything you like, from just a pound, every bit will help in getting a decent chap back on the road in a Volvo. Wobbly has already pledged and so have I, if you would like to throw a bit in please send me a PM and i will give you details of how to make the donation, via post or paypal. Thanks for your support, i know it will be appreciated :)

Keep it up and we will buy him a replacement outright. Thanks guys, true community spirit once again, and please, dont apologise if you think the amount you have donated is small, every penny will go to Emlyn and will count, i personally am just grateful that you have the heart to put something in :)

I'v alway thought this was a good forum and this confirms it. I knew that there would be help from the people who have met him, but the amount of people offering help is fantastic. Having met emlyn, i'd say that he deserves it as he's such a good bloke. Especially after nobody stopped to help him, they need a slap!:mad111:

Post 354253 by LiamT4 on 2011-01-10 22:06:07
Will help em as much as I can ?
Think wobbly means, we need to try and keep this a secret untill its sorted, so help as much as you can, just try not to let it slip. (i think?? lol)

Post 354259 by Wobbly Dave on 2011-01-10 22:24:45

What I was meaning is stalling. I would like for it to be possible so that all the funds can be used to get a Volvo. No point if you have already built one!! In no way did I mean for Dean to not help. That's the whole point of this thread. And yes also not letting the cat out of the bag would, be a good thing too, obviously. So if you can keep a small amount of delay until the fund is finalised - that would be great.

Post 354268 by Alex. on 2011-01-10 22:36:50

Count me in! I had a recent accident in my T4, luckily the car was worth enough to allow me to upgrade into a T5 (albeit an older car) with the insurance payout! I was financially lucky, Emlyn was lucky in all ways but financial! Alex.
Hey PA - I was worried about you - maybe I have just been missing your posts. How are things going after the probs last summer?
Hi Phil, things have been a bit sureal over the last 4 months, after the stroke in July and the seizure in August, I have had a bit of a struggle getting back full mobility. The fingers are a lot better, even if they hit the wrong keys now and again. I'm still numb down my right side and my memory is not what it was. Still I'd rather be this way than helping to fertilize the ground somewhere. I'm finding it really funny at the moment with all the news about stroke survivors not getting proper aftercare. I have had one visit from a stroke nurse, who said you look like you're managing and left me to it. No physio no care not a thing, and when I asked about it I was told that I didn't need it as I could walk. Yet a specialist has said I needed some help when he saw me in November, that was when he signed me off from hospital care :) I have to admit, trying to carry a roll of fabric on your shoulder when you can't feel it is a very strange sensation. And trying to pick things up when you can't feel them is also a little odd. But that's the way things are, and I hope that it's going to get better over the next few months, I want to be driving by August, that when the law says I can get back behind the wheel again.

My mum had a stroke when she was 55 (only nine years older than me!) so it is an issue close to my heart. I guess you just have to get on with what can only be the weirdest thing of finding your body won't do what you expect it too - not for any pain, it just doesn't! A major burden to say the least if you are also numb. It is TERRIBLE that you are not getting more support from the NHS - and also entirely predictable given the fragile state of outreach and even out-patient services. For the sake of some regular physio, you could be hindered from getting back to as much normal as you will be able to - so keep pushing for more support, and if not, get into a good exercise and 'brain reprogramming' routine. Mum carried on til she was 88 - so keep it up! Thinking we should have an annual charity fundraiser on here - maybe the Stroke Association or something? What do you think?

This thread and its contributors is testament to the community you have all created, i for one am very humbled. Someone tell him that they have seen something he may like but they have to find out if it's still around, and then ask him to wait a couple of days. That should stop him doing anything silly to the moment. :) PS Don't forget some photos of the event, I'm sure we would all love to see his ugly mug oops sorry happy smiling face on the night.

Well, i guess now is as good as ever. I am completely overwhelmed by the generosity of you all, nothing less than spectacular. Thank you to all that have bothered to give, its been a busy week sorting it all out and keeping a record of it all. I am sure that he will appreciate what has been done, well he better lol. The pot, as of now stands at £1150.00, it was slightly less but i have decided to round it up :) That really is an incredible figure guys, and a good way to a replacement T5R for him. I will present him a cheque tomorrow at the meet from my account after all of the paypal monies have finished transferring. A truly fantastic effort people, i cannot thank you enough for your support for a member who is always happy to help anyone at his own expense, offers his services and support to the site and others on a regular basis. Cant wait to see his face lol. Thanks all :)

I wish Mrs PA and I could be there to see his face when you hand over the cheque tomorrow. That's a really nice amount to put towards a T5R well done everyone. :thewave::thewave::thewave:

Great news - great total. Just curious to know how many people chipped in - if that isn't too impertinent?

I think it's pretty humbling really to see how generous people have been, especially at a time of year when money is tight - ten times more so in the current economic climate. In common with a few others, I don't know Emlyn, but I was touched by the bald honesty of the account of his accident and the obvious effect it had had. Probably the most impressive aspect of his attitude was that he was just so determined to 'get right back into the saddle' and remained positive despite the obvious knock-back of such a lucky escape. His helpful and friendly attitude is proof that "as ye sow, so shall ye reap" - he deserves all the generous good wishes from us all!! Cheers, John

The Wobbly flying team... I certainly dont plan on ever having another accident my friend but then again I never planned on having this one. January 2011 has been a bad one for many people. Best wishes for Mrs offtheclockuk ;)

For sure - Asynchronous Pair ;) namely Different hedges - different years. I'd prefer to keep it that way. I am restricting my display team to just "Show & Shine". Best wishes also to Mrs OTC(UK).
For sure - Asynchronous Pair ;)
A sort of Wan Hung Lo thing...

Post 356569 by Wobbly Dave on 2011-01-25 10:29:33

I was thinking more about the Red Arrows - namely the 2 aircraft known as the Synchronous Pair - that split off the main 9 & fly at each other at great speed.
