Ok a long way off but as it's been mentioned. VPCUK meet at Shakespeare Raceway on the 3rd April 2011. Open to all and the people who usually attend are a nice lot (Competitive but nice. So if your new, please feel free to come along). Information and directions can be found at http://www.shakespearecountyraceway.com/ 1.Santa20 (With or without car)

I would be hoping by April I will be sorted, even if it isn't fully ready for the strip. Now enough of that there is a thread for this rubbish... lol

I didn't think they would let you set a quarter mile on a pencil. Does it even have wheels? BTW count me in. I'll be in a Volvo C70. I think the pencil idea has limited mileage.

Post 370250 by LiamT4 on 2011-04-03 00:27:02

Cheers mate, been meaning to get one for a while but had a lot on my mind. Council wants to charge me more money for my new place even though its bloody tiny! And not only have i not received the deposit back from my old place, but they'v took another months rent of me, even though i no longer live there. Oh, and the company i work for may be selling the logistics part of their business (the bit i work in) after they have done a "strategic review" of the business, which is never good. Never mind.

Post 370254 by p fandango on 2011-04-03 00:32:39

seems to be traditional that they rob you of the security deposit when you leave a rented property, hope you get everything sorted & get the extra rent repayed
seems to be traditional that they rob you of the security deposit when you leave a rented property, hope you get everything sorted & get the extra rent repayed
£900 they now owe me. Just annoys me a bit, i did ask them if i should cancel the standing order and they said that they would sort it and didn't need to bother, yeah right. That and the stupid council tax, i can't do anything about where i work so no point in worrying about something i have no control over, just typical that they all happen at the same time.

It was pretty empty at the start of the day. I think i managed 2 runs within 5 minutes of each other. Did 5 runs in total and my best was 14.519@101mph. Not bad for an auto ;) It was good to meet and chat with Colin and also Louise, as well as the usual crowd. The quickest cars weren't out today, but all good fun none the less. I was glad to see Frank's pull up was nothing serious and also that remap still pulling strong (its not been used for a while). Dave, it looks like you need more boost lower down. From what i have seen, off the shelf maps tend to start bringing in the boost from about 2.5k with full boost coming in at 3.6k. Maybe rip kit will help with spool up also. I think everyone agrees that your car should be pulling low 14s easy. Liam, hmmm frustrating isn't it, I've been there and it was only recently that i've started getting quicker. Don't worry, i'm sure the times will come tumbling down soon, even if it means a different car. Drop me a pm if you need any advice. Loving the supercharger whine on Claymore's car hmmmm. Smithy, James, get your fingers out! Ed

Post 370353 by Wobbly Dave on 2011-04-03 18:02:02

So logically that would lead me towards a forged engine to allow more boost in earlier RPM or lower gears?
So logically that would lead me towards a forged engine to allow more boost in earlier RPM or lower gears?
Not really mate, look at the 850 i had. Did you keep the torque limiter in 1st like the standard map? going on my c70 it feels like no boost in 1st gear,it does bug me sometimes but hopfuly a mte map will sort this.
So logically that would lead me towards a forged engine to allow more boost in earlier RPM or lower gears?
Dont think you have to go that far at the moment unless you want to, firstly i would get Hamish to dig you out a decent 19t map and see how you go on that, you can push 1.3bar without any problems and that's got to be better than 0.9bar.

Post 370360 by Wobbly Dave on 2011-04-03 18:12:48

I'd have to check with Hamish. I had 4 remaps on the current C70 - so I have lost track.

Post 370363 by Wobbly Dave on 2011-04-03 18:14:41

Not necessarily - as I am producing the same horse power for less boost. Having said that other factors such as injector size & the FMIC have changed. I am growing impatient to see the final map realised. Peter who should be turning up this year is as elusive as the proverbial pimpernel.

Post 370387 by LiamT4 on 2011-04-03 19:37:06

Ed's is an 855 estate (bergundy with canistos)and is a hell of lot quicker than my s70r auto. lol Best time for me was a 15.3@93mph which is 2 tenths slower than what i ran last year on that really hot day. Although i thought i'd be struggling to get under 16 today. At least it confirms what i knew, that its running slower these past couple of months. One race i was up against a vectra vxr and was neck and neck half way up the track, then he just pulled away from me and he crossed the line 10mph faster. Obviously its slow off the line, being an auto, and from about 3k to 4-4.5k its ok then it just feels like the boost disappears. Chug, chug, chug.

Post 370388 by claymore on 2011-04-03 19:40:51

you were 4 tenths quicker than me, although my terminal speed was 97mph
you were 4 tenths quicker than me, although my terminal speed was 97mph
Thats where my problem is, top end - its doesn't have any! lol I should be running a fair bit quicker as it was so much cooler today than last years and i'm running a different (and better) map now. The car was definatly quicker on the current map up untill a few months back, need to find out whats wrong and get it sorted. I'm sure its a 14 second car, if its working properly.
don'y want to burst your bubble at nearly keeping up with a vectra vxr but it was a lookalike it was the 2.0 turbo lol
There were 3 there today, a 3.2v6, a 2.0t (which also had bsr badges on) and the vxr. I assuming it was a vxr as (apart from the badges, which could just have been stuck on) it had bigger brakes than the 2.0t and it didn't have the bsr badges on it and it had different exhausts on the back, which i got to have a good look at as it went past me! lol

There were 2 black vectras there today. I'm pretty sure the one i raced had vxr badges on it. If it was a 2.0t then all credit to him, he was doing 103.29mph over the line, which is a bloody good terminal speed.
yeah agreed the terminal for a standard 2.8 vxr is 100mph 14.4
It sounded very nice as well. To get a 103 terminal i'd have thought he would be pushing close to 300bhp.
Ed
Your getting good times for an auto and breaking that 100mph terminal barrier as well. Whatever i do i'll have to get the power issue sorted, which means getting a boost gauge and mbc, from then on i don't really now what i'd like. I'd like to take it further, its just that (and i really like autos, especially as an every day car) they just aint as much fun on the strip, you just put your foot down and the car does it all for you.

So even if i had a 19t and vxr injectors and the rest and were pushing a true 300bhp, it would be a fast car yes , but would it be any more fun on the 1/4mile?
dont you have your left foot on the brake then?
Yeah you have to really, otherwise as soon as your foot is off the brake the car moves slightly and the timing begins. You need to get your foot on the accelerator as quick as you can when your coming off the brakes. Thats the only bit where the driver can make the difference, the rest is all the car.

They should be more runners next time as we have a few people who's cars are off the road at the min having a few things done. It was day of running problems for a couple of us, so a bit of a benchmark to see what needs doing and stuff.

My car is nearly ready. I just need to get hold of a very busy Swedish tuning guy - tuning 11 year old C70s is not high on his list of priorities & sort out the gearbox (short shift plate is going in the bin). It appears that I was labouring under a misapprehension. There is a torque limiter but it is not based on each gear. Single map = single torque limiter. I am hoping that someone can help me with my tired brain to understand how that would explain my losing to Ed. I am not short on power - that's for certain. 15 dead at 103 has never been equalled AFAIK. Hamish reckons he can get a 13 out of the C70 as is. I feel a wager coming on.

went to 4K. As far as the sconeman plate goes - I like the short throw but with the newly refurbished gearbox issues (long story) I am facing - I am not currently using it. Gearbox is almost certainly coming off again. I don't want to go into gory detail because it is an ongoing issue & it is unfair to start putting up my grievences/issues before the involved parties have had chance to resolve them. just enough to say that the lack of mechanical leverage provided by the plate due to the shortening of the distance between the lever & the fulcrum is making it difficult to engage the gears properly. This is no disrespect to Sconeman or his products. It is just how it has to be for now.

Cant wait to come along again, last time I went I was in my S4 I did a 14.0 @ 99.97 MPH and she wasnt on top form, unfortunatly I never ran her again. What amazed me though was seeing a 57 plate M5 7 speed running 15s with one high 14 but it was doing 110-115 mph terminals. I hope to have my V50 running better and mapped for the next one but to be honest I will be pleased to get a low 15 and 95+ out of her cos at the moment I reckon she would run a 16 @ 88! :(
