Hi Guys
I found that one the rear top shocker mounts of Sue's 850 T5 estate has broken (heard it knocking against the wooden floor panel) but she needs the car tomorrow and can't get it repaired before then - in your opinion (please I need an honest opinion with no come backs to you) would it be safe to drive it like this if she drove sensibly (for once)?

Its probs been like that for a bit anyhoo so a cant see how 1 more day can make a difference, obviously its not best but if its been ok so far why not just drive like a nun
Al probs get shot down for that but thats ma opinion

Thanks fraz, that was my first thought - we've been trying to find where the knocking has been coming from for almost a week now - had it up on ramps to check the exaust nor anything else wasn't falling off and even shook the dampers but spotted nothing - but same as you expected someone to say I was wrong to think another day should be ok.

Mine went a few weeks ago, sounded awful!
I got it fixed at VolvoTuning on a Sat morning as soon as I could. - probably best not to use it too much until it's fixed as it obviously affects suspension which can have an effect on braking (and cornering d'oh).
If you need to use it, then be VERY careful! Mine was like driving a boat! So take your time - don't accelerate / brake / corner hard, just nurse it everywhere keeping the speed down.
Probably worth getting the shocks checked or changed at the same time - VT fitted Spax ones and they make a world of difference!
VT had all parts available, and prices were very competitive - tea was a bit slow tho ;)
(If you're lucky you might see them doing a dyno on something - frightening to see a T5 "full on" standing still!)

Thanks for that Goof. Would you mind telling me what VT charged?

To be honest I can't remember! - I had MoT whilst I was there - think total bill was somewhere around £240. - I might well be wrong, so don't think it's too high!
Or was it £180?... dunno, sorry!
Probably best if you phone/email VT for more reliable info as I'm crap! ;)

MoT - £45
£30 for shocks each???
£20 each top mounts???
labour £?
Best get in touch with VT mate...

Cheers Goof - just wanted a rough guide so as not to embarass myself. I think I will contact VT anyway cos i'd like a Rica but our T5's done a high mileage and I'd like them to have a look at it first to see if they think it's worth it or not - having the shocks done will give me an excuse.
Thanks again
Frank

Izzynan ? for further reassurance one of my top mounts had completely snapped in half (the metal top cup) and was riding around in the boot. I still needed a good wrench to get the bolts off though to change them.
Safe......? I drove mine for about 2 months knowing they were knackered, up and down car park ramps speed bumps etc, it was just noisy but held together fine.

Thanks Vt5, I think you just explained why we love Volvos - Sue's going to use the car tomorrow for sure - she'll be careful but she won't be worried.
