I have had a rant on Face book, like my comment it may (very slim chance more likely someone will delete it) help Volvo build some more intresting cars. Please like if you are on FB and check out inside Volvo on face book. As much as I agree with the above owning 850s and V70s over the years, I have to ask. Volvo why dont you do build a manual V60 T6R please please so I can buy one in a few years when it depreciates?Im sure there would be a market, maybe a bu...dget model for police forces! Very impressed with the older T5s and Rs and D5s Looking forward to trying a V60 D5 manual some day soon after trying the latest S60 D5 D3 (unfortunatly auto) at your naughty track days which was great fun thank you Volvo. I have owned & driven several performance Volvo's over the years and feel your loosing your way a little bit although the safety and innovation are impressive and 2nd to none. More manual options are needed ie T6! Oh yes and stop calling a 4 cylinder turbo ford engine a T5 you will loose loyal volvo customers lol A RWD/ AWD DV10(Twin or Quad turbo Two D5 engines- S90 V90 XC90 with a manual option could be intresting idea too. Safety sells & is what Volvo is about but some of us drivers like to drive so Manual options on your performance engine's please.

Liked and commented. Incidentally, I thought it worth repeating Volvo's response to you here, which was news to me:
Hi Lance- Check out www.polestar.se for a list of fully Volvo backed engine performance upgrades for diesels and petrols from our World Touring Car partner. Fully fitted by any Volvo Dealer that doesn't effect your warranty for £645 inc VAT. C30 T5 with 250 bhp or a V60 D5 with 225 bhp anyone?
I didn't realise that and they've kept it bloody quiet. Wonder if Rufe offers discounts on it? :P

Lance, have you driven the V60 R-Design yet? If not, then you should! Even the FWD version handles better than the older 2004+ S60R. :)

S60 is boring and the advertising makes it look like they want 3 series drivers to buy it. 5cylinders, turbo, manual... and LSD.... is it that hard ?? :) Audi like it with the RS3.... Don't want to see Volvo go the way of Saab!
S60 is boring
In standard form, maybe. But, as with the V60, in R-Design spec it is far from boring!

Saab was bought by Spyker and yes, they are still making their Aero models. Lance's comparison is fair - the current models are still based on a GM platform, and use some GM powerplants; much as Volvo uses a Ford platform and some Ford powerplants.
Didn't Koenigsegg buy Saab?
... and the R design is just a body kit and some minor suspension tweaks
The R-Design suspension tweaks are quite extensive -

15mm lowered springs
15% stiffer springs
faster responding dampers
different steering rack for faster steering
uprated anti-roll bars
strut brace
400% stiffer bushes
Have you driven the new S60? ... if so.... what did you think of it?

What annoys me is Ford have the RS with 300 bhp and a manual box, what about some Volvos with the same engine. I hate the fact that if you want a range topper you have to have an Auto. I know its the same with an RS6 or M5, AMG, JAG XFR but that annoys me equally.

While the actual steering feedback may not be as good as a BMW, it still handles as well as the German offerings IMHO.

That said... Mines on Eibach sports springs and mega stiff rollbar so I guess I've paid for the 'extreme' settings on mine - The potholes and roads around Glasgow almost make me wish for a softer ride sometimes (almost...)

It's not 100% perfect, but for most people I think the R-Design will have more than enough "feel" to give a great driving experience on the twisty roads. I'll be up in Glasgow very soon, so we could meet up if you like. Will PM you details.

I drove the new S60 on the naughty and the active supension is far more responsive than the last gen S60R. Diesels pull well enough. Only gripe was I can't drive the manual as me feet are too big and the left foot gets caught on the steering column
