Baby no.1 is on the way, and its time to free up some cash for house improvements. I've bought a cheap ratty diseasel today so its time for a very sad and reluctant sale of my pride and joy. 2 previous owners. MOT Dec & taxed until e/o May 74k with FSH (3 dealer stamps plus one independent, all on long life servicing. Next due at 81k) 6spd manual  giving approx 38mpg on a run (a tank lasts me approx 500 miles) Believed standard apart from a K&N fitted by the last owner Titanium Grey with 18in Orpheus BBS/Volvo alloys Revised 4-C adaptive suspension which works brilliantly 4 good tyres Carbon black uphostlery with silver trim inserts, spaceball and cupholder cover. Climate, cruise, steering wheel audio controls etc Well what can I say? no point eulogising as you all know the 2.4 is a beast compared to the 2.3 that came before. Loads of engine, turbo and chassis parts from the S60R but without the fragile engine and angle gears etc. Fantastic car with no known major faults and drives A1. I was planning on an MTE remap (Don quoted me well over 300bhp) but I'll let the next owner have that fun. 'Bad' points. The alloys look great but only on close inspection can you see some kerbing by the previous owner. One scuff on the n/s/f corner (see pic) but nothing too obvious The odd small blemish on the paintwork and I mean SMALL. When polished up the car looks stunning. Realised this week that the aircon needs a re-gas. I'm advertising it for £4850 on here for a couple of days and then i'll stick it on Pistonheads for £5k, so grab a bargain! You can't get an ex-plod for much under £4k so this is a very cheap car. Image Image Image Image Image Image
except they are known to be more unreliable as the liner walls are thinner,
thats the 2.5's as in the S60R (sorry Richard). What i find brilliant is Volvo experimented using a 2.5 for the original 850 T-5 but had problems, yet still tried again with the S60R lol

If the lump goes boom it will probably get replaced with a 2.4. (And if I'm look to keep the car for another 12+months I will probably get a 2.4 engine built for serious power).
still thinner than the 2.3, the guy who runs the a1 scappy said that he gets in much more 2.4's than 2.3's
Surely thats more to do with bad modifying and the intake charge temperature being too high than the 2.4T5 being weak? This has gone off topic. Sorry KPB.
still thinner than the 2.3
afraid not mate, the B5244T5 as in the S60 T-5 has the same 81mm bore as ours but with a 93.2mm stroke instead of our 90mm to increase cc

Post 374179 by KPB on 2011-04-24 21:27:13

For what its worth, i've owned a 2.3 and a 2.4 and they are worlds apart in standard form, but I would appreciate if people could stay on topic.

2.4 is the best one - nice motor! I keep wishing i had spare cash :) Seen a few 2.4's running 350 genuine on a MAHA dyno with just bolt on's - very nice tuning car indeed.

Bumpety bump - only 11hrs left on the Ebay auction. I've no access to eBay from work so I can't post a link. Pretty easy to find if you search near LE9 2BW. Took it out for a spin yesterday in the sunshine. Slightly different from the baggy 1.9Td Xsara estate I've running as a replacement for the last fortnight. Sniffle...

37.7mpg average.. you must drive like a nun!

Post 376208 by KPB on 2011-05-06 15:11:41
37.7mpg average.. you must drive like a nun!
I do 500 miles per week so have to! But I do 90% motorway miles in speed camera areas. I've seen 42mpg a few times if traffic conditions keep me to about 60, but when i've calculated it by brimming, 42 usually usually equals 37-38. Long term average has been about 35/36. Besides, I tend to reward a lot of careful driving with a few miles of ahem, 'more vigorous' driving from time to time.

Nice I would have been very intrested if was a V70

Post 376463 by KPB on 2011-05-07 19:03:08

Well, disappointingly it didnt sell - although the highest bidder (out of two people) is coming to see and test drive it tomorrow.

Post 376572 by KPB on 2011-05-08 09:18:53

Price now £4,495 ono

Post 376624 by t5_monkey on 2011-05-08 12:33:56

Damn that's a lot of car for not a lot of cash...

Post 376848 by KPB on 2011-05-09 08:33:19

You're not wrong there. I'm very surprised it didnt get more interest. The highest bidder pulled out of viewing it and the only other caller hadnt read the advert properly and thought it was auto.

Post 377923 by KPB on 2011-05-14 09:13:37

Car now sold. For b-gger all too!

Post 377941 by t5_monkey on 2011-05-14 12:17:22

what did you sell it for in the end? if you don't mind me asking :)

Post 378372 by KPB on 2011-05-16 13:16:19

£4200. Quite a steal but I only lost £800 in 6 months. I think the guy who bought it couldnt believe his luck. Nice guy but knew nothing apart from that he wanted either a T5 or a HOT Aero. I was gutted to see it drive away - although having only used it twice in 3 weeks since I bought the replacement motor, I could see its weaknesses too. Not least the overlight steering.

A sad postscript to this. Got an email from my eBay buyer over the weekend and the aircon pump has failed, plus apparently it now needs a clutch kit and master cylinder. He's got a bill for £1200. Hand on heart I didnt know it needed either of these things and even had the guy round my house, encouraged him to put his foot down on the test drive etc etc with nothing to hide. In fact, it I had something to hide I wouldnt be writing this now. In particular the clutch bite and gear change all felt spot on. Obviously I can't account for how the clutch has been treated since it was sold though. I'm sad the deal has gone sour and feel sorry for the guy, but I needed the cash from the car so will be enforcing the 'sold as seen' agreement we had in place. Still feel bad about it though and have sent him Rufe's web address to try and get his repair costs down. Not sure it would be much consolation to him to know he got the car ridiculously cheap in the first place. Sad times.
I understand how you feel for the guy BUT you mustn't feel guilty. As you've said, you can't account for how the car has been driven or abused since the sale. If the clutch was knackered prior to the sale, you & the buyer would've known & he'd wouldn't have bought it. Has the buyer attempted to have the air con regassed? The compressor won't engage if there's insufficient refrigerant in the system....could also be the low pressure switch at fault. I don't think any1 here will blame you for enforcing the 'sold as seen' agreement, you didn't hide anything and I presume the guy inspected the car and had a decent test drive. Unfortunately.....I know it doesn't help the buyer but that's life.

AND........going off the buyers eBay feedback for purchases for a Diesel Compression Tester, Starter Motor, CV Joint Kits, Fault Code Reader, Wheel Bearing Kit, Water Pump & an Alternator the chap obviously knows his way around cars. If there were any major problems with the car ie clutch, I'm certain he would've discovered them.

In which case he was more aware of cars than he made out & I don't feel quite as responsible now. Good spot Stephen.

Post 379755 by stephenevans99 on 2011-05-23 12:51:08

He's also bought some weight lifting equipment.....so it might be better to give him a full refund + expenses, otherwise he might break you into little pieces......just a thought ;)

Post 379766 by KPB on 2011-05-23 13:31:48

Ha! Doubt it'll come to that - he looked a sturdy fellow but was a decent enough chap with it. Besides, I aint going to entertain any nonsense on my doorstep.

Post 379769 by t5_monkey on 2011-05-23 13:37:17

As long as you genuinely thought it was OK when you sold it - it's just one of those things.

Post 379774 by KPB on 2011-05-23 13:59:00

Absolutely. There was even a slight chance I might be working closer to home and could have kept it, but honoured the auction rather than withdraw it. I'd happily have that car on my drive and whats more, I'm pretty sure the clutch wouldnt be burnt out either.

Post 380033 by lance on 2011-05-24 09:56:20

74K is nothing for a clutch on a Volvo, Ive known them last 200k although mine on Miss Whiplash needed changing at 145k that was with drag racing it!

Post 380040 by KPB on 2011-05-24 10:29:30

Bit of an update. The fella emailed again this morning with an apology for letting off steam yesterday. Turns out the clutch slave cylinder popped and the clutch needs replacing due to oil contamination. He's realised in hindsight I couldnt have known this in advance so was wound his neck in. Fair enough. Guess he's just been very unlucky with it going so close to buying the car. I think he's postponed replacing the aircon unit until he can source a refurb so his actual bill at the moment is about £480. Not a small amount but better than the £1200 ish he mentioned yesterday. Maybe my good luck on this S60 was serendipity for the previous one I had which was the least lucky car i've ever owned!

Post 380119 by stephenevans99 on 2011-05-24 18:42:49

A bit of good news then !! It also looks like he's bought a bearing for the ac compressor off eBay.... Volvo ac compressor bearing

Post 380459 by KPB on 2011-05-25 20:18:35

Cheap fix then! ps - you're a brilliant eBay stalker.
