Lo all, having spent an amazing 12 hour day fixing a non Volvo with someone from another great forum I finally plucked up the go to do the front pads on the Speedy Swede ( after months of them sitting in the kitchen).
Using the forums guidence I was ready to go and having two sets of allen keys and various hex bits in my very average socket set and other tool sets I started jacking her up , offing wheel etc.
But , On going to remove the two hex bolts I found that every single allen key or hex key that I own only goes up to 6mm.
It seems 7mm is not in any of your average little tool sets and this might be something for any 1st timers like myself to bare in mind. 7mm is obviously for grown ups :pimp2:
Now I have her jacked up she's not getting let down again ! so best I go off and spend some money on tools ( this could be dangerous) .
Regards
Mas

28 mile round trip to Hal Frauds bought a 7mm socket hex from the advanced range. One attempt to undo the caliper bolt with nothing but my short cheap ratchet and ping ! the hex split striaght through the middle . Fortunately I go it all out.
Surely I should shatter a 7mm steel hex by hand ?
Here it is basically shattered, the cheap ratchet I used by hand was fine
Lifetime guarantee ? , aka 2 minutes
I was going to buy that Halfords professional 150 piece set to start me off but now I'm re considering
Regards Mas

Wow Mas, finally someone else has snapped the 7mm Halfrauds Hex keys! I remember first doing my brakes and reading the manual taking it for granted 7mm was a regular sized alan key... clearly not. I snapped three! I still have them somewhere. It took all day to find a shop that sold 7mm alan keys rather than hex ratchet pieces and that has never broken since.

hi Mas
buy the set mate, its a bloody good set im on my 3rd one as the other 2 got nicked, as u say they have a life time warranty on them so if u do break something just take it back and they replace it FOC. Now my sets tend to get a hammering and the only things i have ever broken were a 3/8 10mm socket and 3/8 ratchet took both parts back and replaced no problem

You flash git! I have a nice Blue Point set (cheap mans snap on I know) and a huge draper expert racing floor box full of draper expert kit but not in the league of snap on.

makes me wonder how i'd got a 7mm to get my caliper off, & i only buy cheap sets. I had to go out & buy a 18mm spanner to undo the rear suspension bolts Volvo like to do in the odd size lol

I'll second that- really bloody good tools! Worth every penny :)
Prob not in the same league as Snap On or Facom etc but the lifetime warranty is good.

lol sadly its my trade so iv always had snap-on since i left school,
i dont even wana think about how much iv spent with them lol.
my latest tool box is 5k.......and it dont come with tools lol.
but they have always replaced anything that gets broke lol......within reason....sometimes even i can brake snap-on lol.
most tools are quite good now,be they facom, mac or halfrauds etc....
usualy perfectly good enough for most weekend mechanics etc....
