just putting this date up as a possible meetup and dragracing day at shakespeare raceway .i will be going and racing to beat my pb time and see how the slow oldtech 940 does.this will be a good date after york meetup.and plenty of time to finish any mods and tuning after york.

Wobbly Dave will confirm this as the best method ;)[/quote] The trick is to get to the start line 1st so you are "staged" (both the top row of clear lights on) then as the car next to you creeps up to the mark hold the brakes hard with your left foot and bring the revs up to about 2200rpm and your gone a second or so later, takes a bit of practice and people think 1/4miling is easy but there is a lot of skill in getting a good time not just a good car :)

I have still done nothing too mine since York, i bought an Greddy e01 then the seller decided it wasn't for sale, so on the look out for a evc 6 now. also been putting off the exhaust place for ages as it is right across London. Well I have decided not to fit the 19T or Greens. My reasoning behind this is the leaky valve stem seals on my engine so it will eventually be coming out so seems daft messing about. Plan is when I have the money to forge and refurb the replacement engine from my T5-R, build it all up while its out the car and simply "slot" it into place. Ill be running with a 15G, whites, Custom Rica, decat, full stainless and Blitz Dual SBC Controller. In a way it will give me a benchmark too to measure the imporvement once the forged engine, 19T and greens are in.

Best to stand at the start of the strip and watch and learn how the lights and staging work. My best run, 15.1 last year, was from a normal start (idle). I really don't like powerstarts. Think Ed said he only launches from slightly above idle.
It's hard for me to comment against powerstarts but I am sure there is some maths and physics somewhere that is against them......in my case, i have never had any issues and the car is still going strong on the same box as above. tbh i cant remember exactly how the start was as only started using powerstarts when Dave mentioned what a good idea it was in 2005 lol ;) it may have been a normal start but they certainly launch the car quicker, or seem to......

To this day I have no idea how the box put up with it, that said it's still on the same box which is still performing in a textbook fashion again I think there was a fair amount of luck involved...lol

I agree with the comments about it being luck with the auto box's, i had to have the one replaced on the Mrs car about 5yrs ago and it had only 90k on it and we had not given it any abuse, put one it untested from a scrappy and have battered the sh1t out of it and had no problems.

Another problem raises its ugly head..2 wires broke off the back of the evc. So been.running aroimd.got too Love London in a way. £7 for a.new connector and soldering 3 wires in at 4pm did it while I waited. I kept the £600 evc6 tightly in my pocket lol just incase the price went up.for the repair. In the pub now drinking scrumpy boy I am stressed at the moment but hey all is still green for go at the mo.
Car seemed slightly better earlier.....especially when exiting Westfield at Shepherds Bush. Will see how it goes :-) (Think it needs servicing though).

first and foremost, my nephew Sam, is 100%fine.
the car.........hmmmm?
when getting it into my garage it spat out all its oil on my drive,it did drive into the garage though, considering the crash, says alot about these cars.
thanks goes out to Emlyn,for helping forklift the car onto the trailer, not something you see everyday! lol
we now have quite a bit of work to do, I think Trax might be a no, aswell as my next race at Zandvoort. but everyone is ok, thats the main thing.

Good day and nice to see all those I already knew and the new faces I got to meet today, proof that this is truely a great community. Not a great day though with all the issues some people had, JT's car obviously and the ******* civic drivers, ambient temperatures, some cars not quite running as expected, clutch failure, also Emlyns gearbox died at the pub. I'll upload some videos tomorrow, have a bit of sun stroke and feel sick to my stomach. (Yeah TMI but I love you guys).

Had a really good time out today, even taking into account the sunburn, was very pleased with the way the car went, even if I obviously have a little too much mechanical sympathy when compared to some of you... lol Can't believe some of the times you guys achieved with your cars. Shame about JT's 850 I am glad everyone involved was unhurt but that still doesn't take into the account that the idiot could have avoided it all had he have looked before he turned... Clearly even in white with racing stickers a Volvo is still a stealth car! The writing on the back window of the other Civic is uncalled for and I am just glad I didn't see it in the flesh on the day. Can't believe the box went on Emlyn's is it an internal failure? Was he able to drive it home? So having now put a few more names to some faces it's great to be apart of this community you really are a great bunch of guys/girls.
In actual fact I find the White Civic quite humorous... Glad to hear we killed one..

Well it has been an eventful day. Fluffed the 1st 2 runs. The 1st one, after the burn out - I had no time to set the revs just after getting the second staging light on so just bogged it. 2nd run threw a 2nd to 5th gear change. So irritating & frustrating. Best time was 14.815 @100.51 despite a 2.436 60ft. I am just thinking that the high ambient was pulling out boost? Real shame to see some twonk hit JT 854. I am happy to see no-one was seriously hurt - but FFS how hard can it be to look for the only other car nearby. Eugene was left at the pub with recovery on the way. I am sorry to see your gearbox let go on something so inocuous as reversing out of a car parking spot. It was lovely to meet so many people - some more familiar than others ;) (sorry Al) Congrat to Frankie for leveling the scores. Wish I could have put up more of a fight.

Well litterally just got home ten mintues ago, was nice to meet some new faces and see the familiar ones again. Got a few videos and pictures to upload but will do that tomorrow in the day as I am waiting for the recovery truck to get my car back now. So the car... Basically I was parked in the pub carpark and I was about to leave and selected reverse, the car felt like the handbrake was a little sticky so I gave it a little rev and litterally all I heard was *** BANG*** oh great... Had a look outside and there was deposits everywhere, turned out to be gearbox oil. It was flowing very fast out the box. Wobbly Dave and I jacked the car up to see what it was and the gearbox had a one inch sqaure hole a few inches south of the right hand drive shaft. Straight away that was it car is dead. I phoned the RAC thinking I had home recovery... I didnt... £450 quote to get it home... not happy as already needed a gearbox. Anyhow luckily we managed to persuade the RAC that Joe (rockheadrumble) who came down in his 940 who had coverage for home recovery was driving the car. So I went home with him and I am awaiting the return of it on the low loader now. An expensive day but supprisingly I dont feel unlucky after Jonny's incident. Hey ho life goes on.

Once you get it in the air you should be able to tell, it didnt look like too much underside damage a few mounts torn off and a wishbone, other than that I think it was mainly cosmetic.... shall soon see no doubt.
Absolutely exhausted have barely slept since Friday but somehow I cant seem to sleep thinking of which gearbox to go for next... M56H or M56L with shorter ratio's meaning in 4th well before the line? Lets just see what pops up.
Anyhow here are my pictures and when I do fall asleep I dare say it will be for most of the day!!!
Finally my justification for the day... other than beating smithy of course :) (can sense a barage of a abuse heading my way)
Only got two videos' both in car. The first was smithness running a 13.7 (I think) and second one from inside my car running a 14.5 Please excuse audio quality, for whatever reason the camera hated engine vibrations. looks like every one had a good day and im sorry to hear about the crash and the gearbox problem, i wish i could have been there.
Bad luck on the gearbox Emlyn :( but atleast you got the car back home safely and as I'm sure its something you will sort rather quickly ;)
Just awoken guys, i fell asleep yesteday at 7pm when i got home, so i missed top gear as well, definitely heat soak Dave (my car was a different beast at part throttle going home), best i did was 14.8 the car felt flat at all times, next time i will switch the engine off and not leave it running with the aircon on(incase you guys thought i was being rude? lol) I managed to wire in my EVC 6 first thing i got there( thank PW you are a star, i still didn't get your tea for you, plus on the way up i lost my o/s indicator and my cd got stuck in the changer lol, all before i started racing. 14.8 was my last run as well( my rt's were good though, so i was getting faster and faster through the day, normally my car does the fastest time the first run of the day then i can never beat it, wheelspin wasn't a issue for me here either like York was, Smithy said my car sounded so different too York, i need to get the car set up properly, either another custom map or on a dyno somewhere than can do set ups via a EBC(anyone know any? there is one in Milton Keynes but not sure they know the EVC 6 for tuning. next time i won't use the car as a test car whilst running, just run and race. Got a chance to use VPower now as my Momentum 99 has just run out. Gary PS going to compare my times with York later.

Well I have just been out to look at the gearbox damage in the daylight. I have tried to illustrate the size of the hole by placing a pen next to it. Plenty big enough as you can see to allow the oil to freely flow away. There are loads of little pieces in there too.
It was worth it though as I finally won a trophy... fastest reaction time. It was going to be hard to beat though. I very much doubt I will get close again. I was going to go to ikea to buy a trophy cabinet but realised the logisitcs of getting there may prove difficult ;)

I did/have been thinking about the L for the very reasons you mention. I think also as you are in 4th and 3rd much sooner than the line rather than just as you go accross there will be a greater power output as these are the gears that count.

I had a nice day, the weather was great, I would have liked to have had more runs, but I prommised my son I'd let him have a few goes, so I didnt get a chance to use the charger properly plus the chap that does the nitrous refills wasn't there :(. next time the car will be maped and I'll make sure the nitrous is full :)

I had an enjoyable day. The turn out was excellent and it was good to chat to you all. The weather was perfect except it was about 10 degrees too warm for my car. I suffered boost loss in the heat and really struggled to get off the line (heatsoak rather than traction i think). Best run for me was 14.88, which was way down from my last visit. It was good to have AndysR turn up and run, i knew his auto would be quick :) Also, you could really see the benefits of the fmic on smithness' car. He was still getting quicker whilst the rest of us were struggling. I'm glad everyone involved in JT's incident was ok. I do think the muppet that ran into him should be picking up the bill though. Sorry to hear about the gearbox Emlyn, that is some hole! you may as well do the RMS at the same time when you swap it out. Thanks to smithness/claymore for my new toy. Ed

It since the last map. Getting to grips with the bcs now and she is a different car to Sunday's. Think I am going too sell the Avon zz3s and get some conti Contact 3s on her as she is spinning up to much now. Smithy said mine sounded awful on.Sunday compared to York, the only difference being the larger rear box fitted and the new ebc. The car felt awful as well.
