Just a quicky... I have just got my hands on a second hand speedo cluster for my sweed, (been re-soldering the old one every month for the last year and had enuff!) although the four codes match, it doesn't work. I have seen it working previously and am now confused. Should I un plug the battery before i do the swap? or shouldn't it matter?
Any info on this would be a great help!
Thanks in advance guys.

sounds like its coded to the previous car & will need a software update from the main stealer to match it to your car. Only an assumption but P2's a re very fussy cars

Thought it might be something like that. I really can't afford £1000 for a new dim on a car with 179+k miles on it.
Oh well, back to the soldering iron and hours of going cross-eyed.
On the up-side, I am getting rather good at it now and would happily have a go at anybody - else's for a small fee...?

say it is only a guess but i know alot of the parts are coded

I read in various places that if you match the four codes on the cluster, it would work no probs. only downside is that it would display the highest mileage of the two (not a problem for me with 179245 on mine). That's why I wondered if I should have the battery off before changing the dim over, just so the ecm wouldn't spot the swap?
