National gathering?

I know I managed to get a few of us together for the Essex meet last month and I hope that same crowd will be able to meet again the second week of August but how about a more central national gathering?
I noticed that people on the forum were asking about meets farther up north and down south but what if we could get everyone together for one meet once a year? Maybe more frequently if we all fancy it? I know fuel is expensive these days and at nearly £100.00 a tank to do all of about 300 ish miles doesn't make for the most economical thing to do in your spare time but surely we can get a suitable enough date where all off us can get together?
As a social club newbie I can not express how welcome I have felt at the few club focused events i've been to recently and how much I think we would all enjoy meeting up together and grabbing a drink and some food whilst talking about all things Volvo, with maybe some movie quotes thrown in for good measure.. lol
So what does everyone think? A national group meet before we enter the winter? Somewhere central and accessible to all, I'd be up for it. If there are people on route I don't mind picking them up along the way if they'd rather not drive, for £100 of course ;) Joke!
If your reading this thread your a member of this forum and I'd like to hear your feedback so please do post your thoughts and suggestions.
That reminds me I guess I am well overdue getting a VPC sticker, must get one ordered :) I assume there is no dodgy club initiation process to go through...

Im certainly interested. I always think for central meets where people have to travel far and wide that the availablility to "camp out" is always a good thing and allows those who have the time and dont fancy the long journey at night to travel the next morning.
Wobbly Dave used to do a big summer BBQ for everyone and offered camping in the garden.
Its definately worth looking into. I would look into it myself but with Trax and a Dyno day to look into I have a little on my plate at the moment.
As for sticker, contact Justin hand over £2.50 and a package will arrive in the post.
Post 398488 by AndysR on 2011-07-25 23:06:16
That's fine if we can generate enough genuine interest I don't mind spending the time arranging something...
Will get the sticker sorted asap :)

Is this before or after you sort the engine? lol
Good suggestion though, we won't annoy any locals and Pedro can wander the fields looking for BT or Burgers or even :sheep: in peace....

Next RWYB at Santa Pod is Sunday 21st. If there is enough interest we can camp or use the Travel Inn nearby - as we have done before back in the mid noughties....

Id maybe do York, santa pod isnt very central
Post 398561 by Tomcat on 2011-07-26 07:33:50
A national meet is a great idea, it has been mentioned by myself a few times in the past with little interest but maybe the time wasn't right(it was at least 3-4 years ago). Don't mind where we have it as it'd be worth it.

I as alway's would be up for this depending when and where as everybody has said :), i personnaly would prefer it's held at a 1/4 mile location, i know it's not everyone cup of tea but there is only so much looking at car's i can do lol but they give a decent enough area for parking + camping + those that want to run can and those who like to look can look :).
So the option's i would put forward are..
York....yes a crap track but no need to queue.
Avon....Good track and viewing when queuing + camping and a bar
Santa Pod....Chav city too busy no check's on any car's before running which i think is scandalous and stuck behind a granstand most of the day.
Avon in October it is then :)

The 2 main problems with santapod are that you miss the action when you are lining up and how busy it is. If anyone thought you had to wait a long time at avon on sunday, santapod is worse.
But i'll go with the majority anyway.
Post 398763 by AndysR on 2011-07-26 21:43:40
Im good with whatever, I'll be doing my Papa Lazarou impression all day on the viewing area at Santa Pod anyway as I'll probably go along with my brother in his S70...

i'd say the queuing is about the same until you get a spillage then you have to wait ages and even better no stupid helmets and sleeves rules

To be honest Id prefer not to do The Pod again. Its a great venue but I cant be arsed with all that travelling and hours queing justto race up and down a 1/4mile long straight until some boy racer blows up and dumps oil over the track then its shut for hours whilst they clean it up.
Id much rather try Avon as Ive never been there or slum it and go to York

york is crap in my opinion crap track crap road on the way to up to the track, eats tyres, and its the same as the pod in the respect you cant watch while you queue and there is no timing boards for videoing, i have always got my best 60fts at santa pod i e 2.2's and 2.3's

York is crap full stop :hilarious Its not been updated since the 70's and the route from the track to the fireup carpark via the back of the pig farm is just comical but its a central location for those from the land of haggis and for people from daaarn saaarf.
The only thing Ive found about York is that if your car is slower itll probably post a better time at York due to the track not being glued to death but if your car is faster youll run a slower time as grip isnt as good.

has there been a date put forward for the national meet and has it been decided where the meet will be
Post 400387 by merc85 on 2011-08-01 20:46:04
Any of the above? perhaps a Venue Poll then a Date Poll?
Post 400396 by AndysR on 2011-08-01 20:58:53
I've added a poll to ask which month would be most convenient for members to attend the national gathering.
As for location I am guessing somewhere Central England, perhaps around Nottingham area?

Well before a strip was mentioned I was going to suggest Billing Aquadrome.
Old haunt for me until they moved JAE to the EoE showground.
I may be up for Avon though... Anywhere with alcohol really :)

Yes I couldnt agree more, for a national meet camping is a must expecially if travelling a distance and this of course means the consumption of alcohol is a viable option.
I think I now have a dependancy on the damn stuff!
Im not fussed on location I would go to Sweeden for a weekend away if I was given enough notice to save and get the time off.
