Sold my T5 five months ago and have been running a Xsara diesel snotter since then. With impending arrival of our first baby I picked up an Audi A3 1.8T quattro 5dr as a run around for the missus as her current car is a 2-door and won't be very practical. So now i've got to insure 2 cars and have been jigging around with the quotes etc with some surprising results. All the below are with the A3 using my 5yrs NCD and low mileage, and the Xsara with 0 NCD and high mileage. 1. Multicar quotes - £820 for the two. 2. Separate policies with just me named (the missus driving the Audi 3rd party on her policy) = Audi £380, Xsara £400 third party fire n theft. 3. Separate policies with wifey named driver on both = Audi £277, Xsara £310 I'm really surprised how adding a higher risk driver - based on her points and no claims - pulled my policies down by best part of £200!

If it makes you feel any better My Mrs car Insurance always goes down when she adds me to it even when I was under 30 and she was late 30s with femail driver policys eg sheilas wheels and diamond. However when I added her to my policy's which have all been either Performance/ modified policy's it always cost me an extra £10 or £20 per year. I think the above proves what I we have all known for centurys is that femails are all bonkers!

Agreed, my insurance seems to be cheaper with my missus on a provisional licence???

i thought they'd stopped the insurance price difference between men & women?

apparently its discrimination although insurers are proper unethical money grubbers so they are probably just ignoring the law.

I got a quote separated and unemployed at the moment (made redundant) £721 when i put in married and house husband it was £543 both with just me as the driver ! big difference, yes i am separated, technically still married and my 2 boys live with me. you could say that being unemployed you could use the car more , but a house husband could also, hardly fair is it ................

Slightly embarrassing but the cheapest quote I got via confused.com was for Sheilaswheels! Presumably because i'd added the missus to the policy. At least now i'll have an excuse for dressing up in women's clothing.
