I went - got there (having not read the earlier posts) & thought - where is everybody?? It was a bit showery around lunch time when I got there. Soon the clouds broke & I had a really good afternoon - though it would have been nice to have had some company. Anyway - I won! I guess by default that no-one else came & the only other Volvo's running were a s40 1.9D & an Amazon. Both were doing the gambler bracket racing thingy. On a brighter note - I set my year's PB - & ran 14.505 @ 104.71!! Which is pretty fast you'd have to say. Didn't use slicks & didnt even empty the spare wheel out of the boot plus I have a stinky cold. Ran some 14.6s too. I am a smidgen of the lower 14s. So close!! Had a few nice compliments from the other drivers. Not sure about the torque result (android app) as the numbers didn't match. Intake temp peaked at 48 degrees & boost at 25 psi (though I am sceptical that this is correct).

My best time is my best 60' - so I think the launch is the key. So many variables - about how quick to pull in the clutch to keep the revs up. To my mind with the larger turbo I have to be in the boost zone from the get go.
there is little variation in the 1/8 mile speed. PB I was doing 77.22 mph - next best result overall I was doing 78.15 mph. My fastest ever speed-wise was 79.07 at York - which produced only my 5th quickest time of 14.676 @ 103.22. The time at the 1/8th mile mark & the speed do not seem to correlate. The top 10 results only vary by 2 mph at the 1/8th Similarly the trap speed at the 1/4 varies very little. It is always over 100

Thanks Dean - If the 60' is the same as mine then I can only figure that it entirely down to the 2nd gear push. I can increase this using an MBC - but the risk is that the rods will crumble by putting too much in too early. Do you know what pressure you are running in 2nd?

I am a bit scared to push more in the 2nd gear as it is widely accepted that higher boost - lower down can damage your rods. Now this could mean lower gears? Also I am a little reticent given the age of the engine. I cannot afford to do a great deal if the engine goes clonk. There again I could be talking bollox. I think Hamish & I may look again at seeing if the map can be adapted. There is no 2nd gear map as is widely conceived - the map does all gears.

Maybe you are being a bit too cautious in 2nd.

There may be more that I can push out of it. Perhaps I am not pushing WOT in 2nd?
