From the beginning to how she stands now.
From the beginning to how she stands now.
Looks nice, lowered with those wheels, there's a very similar one near me so I have a good idea what it looks like in the flesh. What next?
Looking good! Pegasus wheels look smart. Your OZ's are still going strong on mine :) What are your future plans for it ?
Looking good, looks miles better with the suspesion fitted. Nice brakes too ;) 3rd from last picture, is that a cooler of some sort or is it mesh??
Looks sh!t, I bet its slow too.
The wheels look OK I suppose.
Nice looking motor mate

Hi mate where did you get the single gauge pod holder that lives on your drivers door lol
Looking good, remember seeing this at Castle Coombe this year.
is that a cooler of some sort or is it mesh??
Yes, it was my oil cooler, it has now been replaced with a larger better quality cooler and relocated to the centre.
Looking good! Pegasus wheels look smart. Glad to hear the Super ts are still doing well :) Plans are to lighten it without impacting on comfort and versatility too much.
Hi mate where did you get the single gauge pod holder that lives on your drivers door lol
Its from carbonfiberwerks.
Looking good, remember seeing this at Castle Coombe this year.
Thanks Andy, just before lunch when we had some sun and the track was completely dry I turned the shock settings to full hard (too hard for combe), but it was just awesome. It might have been due to the ballast, I mean S70T5Chris that was in the passenger seat though :D
looks great love you sig picture, yours and chris cars could be brothers,,,lol
looks great love you sig picture, yours and chris cars could be brothers,,,lol
Actually Steve's is the sister car :D Well... it's definitely the B1tch :saythat:

I can't think of a car that a Momo Race wouldn't look at home in, very nice choice of steering wheel :) One question how do you get round the SRS light being on? Remove the bulb?
Same steering wheel I have got for mine :) What boss did you use? I read the Momo one don't always fit.
Actually Steve's is the sister car :D Well... it's definitely the B1tch :saythat:
lol!!
Actually Steve's is the sister car :D Well... it's definitely the B1tch :saythat:
Ignoring that one
I can't think of a car that a Momo Race wouldn't look at home in, very nice choice of steering wheel :) One question how do you get round the SRS light being on? Remove the bulb?
Removed the bulb, plus most of the SRS system.
Same steering wheel I have got for mine :) What boss did you use? I read the Momo one don't always fit.
Used a Sparco boss kit from GPR in Silverstone.
Ignoring that one  Removed the bulb, plus most of the SRS system. Used a Sparco boss kit from GPR in Silverstone.
Yep that should just about do it.. lol What will you do for next years mot or is the car purely for track use now?
Yep that should just about do it.. lol What will you do for next years mot or is the car purely for track use now?
Hope it passes :) It costs too much to run as a daily driver, but it definitely isn't just for track use, more of a weekend car these days :)
Hope it passes :) It costs too much to run as a daily driver, but it definitely isn't just for track use, more of a weekend car these days :)
Fingers crossed :) I know what you mean, I prefer using mine just at weekends etc rather than the usual commute etc plus it makes it feel more special when you use it less regularly. Anyway hope to see the car at Coombe next year, I'll introduce myself this time round :)
Fingers crossed :) I know what you mean, I prefer using mine just at weekends etc rather than the usual commute etc plus it makes it feel more special when you use it less regularly. Anyway hope to see the car at Coombe next year, I'll introduce myself this time round :)
Jumping from my completely standard C70 T5 to the V70 is insane, when the time comes to get something more economical than the coupe (430miles to a tank is my average at the moment) the difference will be even worse :) I will definitely be at Combe next year, if I get my name on the list in time. I never have the time to chat to people when im there as im usually busy checking the car over, driving or being a passenger. Make sure you are at the MRG meet the following day, that's the day for talking :)
Used a Sparco boss kit from GPR in Silverstone.
Can't find them on their site, did you just ring them?
Can't find them on their site, did you just ring them?
Yes mate, part number is 01502034
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9R7PUT6jLU&feature=player_embedded[/ame] That was Castle Combe this summer, on the straight after Quarry. Cookie/Lord Bs kids got a little excited :D
The recaro's look smart in there mate :D
Nice Recaro... might fancy a couple of them for mine :)
Nice Recaro... might fancy a couple of them for mine :)
You're lucky, Recaro make a fitting kit for your car. On the 850/x70, they stopped making them a while ago, managed to get myself one of the last ones in stock for the drivers side, but unfortunately they don't have the passenger kit. If I ever find another seat then it'll have to be custom subframes.
Very nice touch too! Recaro looks well at home, I trust it's a Focus RS mk2 seat, how much did that set you back? :)
That looks really good, looks right at home fitted in there. That Will certainly stop you from skidding about in the seat next time your out on the track.
Very nice touch too! Recaro looks well at home, I trust it's a Focus RS mk2 seat, how much did that set you back? :)
It is indeed a mk2 Focus RS seat otherwise known as a Sportster CS. Fully fitted it cost less than a brand new aftermarket base spec seat without fitting kit :)
It is indeed a mk2 Focus RS seat otherwise known as a Sportster CS. Was the reason for that cost as a result of the fact it was a single seat and not a pair or did you go halves with someone else?
Type of seats I'm looking for to fit in mine.
Really... I'd have expected it to have cost a small fortune. Was the reason for that cost as a result of the fact it was a single seat and not a pair or did you go halves with someone else?
It was a single seat with a small rub mark on the bolster, which you can't really see. Other than that it's in very good condition.
Haven't updated the thread in a while so here goes. The Radtech intercooler is now bolted in and on early impressions the engine feels that little more responsive to what it did previously. After a thoroughly enjoyable 500mile round trip from Suffolk to see family back in Wales, I did however manage to crack the exhaust manifold so that'll be welded up again for a quick fix in a few weeks time ready for the T5D5 track day at Castle Combe in July. Once that is over it will have an ME7 manifold and of course the next stage of mods will also get under way which will include a different oil cooler, oil cooler pipes, sump, M66 gearbox, clutch, Gripper diff, decat, stronger actuator spring and a few tweaks to the map to hopefully sort out all the weaknesses in the current setup and bring it closer to 500bhp :)
Awesome...
Really like this car keep it up :)
awesome :-)
Always loved this car mate, keep up the good work. 500bhp, are you trying to catch up with Russ's yellow peril :P
technically it would just need to start and move to do that ? :)
LOL Not at all, as said its to remove the weaknesses from the car. For example, it looses 6psi from full boost at 3500rpm to 7500rpm, with a stronger actuator spring I'm hoping to be able to hold at least 24psi up to at least 6500rpm, giving more power at the top end. Another weakness is exiting slow speed or 2nd gear corners, at the moment it just spins the inside wheel hence the move to a gripper instead and while the gearbox is out, it might as well have an extra gear :)
Very nice indeed! Keep up the good work!

its a lovely car especially the 2 ft flames it spits out
I'm surprised you're running an open Diff at 450 - surely that's like doing a 2 week hiking trek in India with no extra supplies of bog roll ?
Steve's currently running a Quaife diff.
Steve's currently running a Quaife diff.
is a gripper better than a quaife for track and 1/4 mile work ?
defo helps me down the strip mate
defo helps me down the strip mate
cool do you run boost in 1st? Mine doesn't run any boost in 1st so I can pretty much floor it as long as I get a decent hook up.
yeah runs 1.3 in 1st but cant floor it quick change up to 2nd away we good lots of fun in the corners
yeah runs 1.3 in 1st but cant floor it quick change up to 2nd away we good lots of fun in the corners
the change on mine is pretty slow - think it's the DMF flywheel, a single mass 6kg would probably make quite a difference on the 1/4 if each change was 0.2 of a second faster.
In Chris's car with iirc 330bhp the Quaife works flawlessly and is of course completely silent. Unfortunately, in mine it is being over powered by the torque, so a noisy Gripper is the only option. For daily road use with a few track days thrown in at normal 19T power levels I still think the Quaife is the better option.
do the grippers not have an unreliabilty issue???
spot the bit thats still in one piece lol

JT
If you use anything but road legal track day tyres (and remember they need to be warm to grip properly) then you might struggle. Also of note, it depends what your torque curve is like. If like mine it shoots up, again it will struggle, but if its mapped to have more of a smoother torque curve you'll be less likely to spin wheels. Remember its not the peak numbers that are important, its the delivery of that torque.
Very nice! Used to follow this thread on t5d5 but cant go on there anymore at lunch times.. .org gets blocked at my place of work for some reason.
vpcuk.org?
volvot5.co.uk .... :)
Stronger actuator spring is now in and with a tweak of the boost controller by performing a new basic setup I'm only loosing roughly 3psi at max RPM. With that extra boost up top, it does feel a little less asthmatic. Got to learn how to use the EVC6 properly if I want to hold max boost all the way.
What spring you running, where'd you get it and how much? Mine drops 0.3 bar running a Blitz dsbc :(
What spring you running, where'd you get it and how much? Mine drops 0.3 bar running a Blitz dsbc :(
Not sure on your actuator setup and whether mine is relevant to yours, but its using a Forge actuator with a white spring. Base boost is 21.7psi i.e I can't run lower than 21.7psi.
Might be worth a look at a Forge one then. I'm not running any more than 1.3 bar at the minute on the standard 16t. Would still be nice to hold some of that extra back after 4.5k though. :)

Not sure on the accuracy or improvement yet as not had her on the road
When is the next gen of Forge actuators likely Steve, do you know?! Scott..
It would drop from 1.3 bar at 4500 rpm with the wastegate welded shut. The turbo is saturated at that point.
Maybe, but still going to be an improvment over standard :)
Forged rods and standard pistons. It's a Tim Williams build.
450 is really impressive on standard pistons... got to love volvo for that! Do you run water/ethanol injection?
450 is really impressive on standard pistons... got to love volvo for that! Do you run water/ethanol injection?
I have it, just not switched it on yet as I have to fiddle with the aquamist gauge to make the system work properly.
Didn't realise you are running standard pistons at 450bhp I wonder what mine can safely do with forged pistons? .
451bhp lol
