Post 423376 by Wobbly Dave on 2011-11-09 16:10:17
Yes next year - Feb 11th is my 40th Birthday. Co-incidentally it is also an Open Pit Lane at Cadwell Park!
http://www.clubmsv.com/car-home/event-details.aspx?productid=1093
I have phoned ClubMSV & the Fuil day is 99 quid but if I can get 10 or more people then I can get a discount of 10%. So sooner you register interest the better for all it will be. I don't want to have the responsibiliity of booking so I will discuss refund of 10%, with the organisers assuming we can get the numbers? Everyone will have to book themselves on.
I can't think of a better way to enjoy my milestone. Due to the fact that it is pretty far away from most people I certainly will be booking a B&B for Friday night.
It is an awesome track.
Post your interest below. I will be contacting other friends & family to see if they are up for it. If no-one comes - I am still going!
You don't need to drive - I am happy to provide passenger thrill rides ;) You don't even need to have a Volvo - I am happy to include everyone.
I dare say we might have a wee drinky in the evening?? I am looking at going for a curry. There is a restaurant in Louth about 15mins away
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&psj=1&gs_upl=1656l9606l0l10480l20l18l1l0l0l2l407l4642l2-12.4.1l17l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=1280&bih=599&wrapid=tlif132085771126910&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=indian+restaurants+in+lough&fb=1&gl=uk&hq=indian+restaurants+in+lough&sa=X&ei=ebC6Tr7zDI3Cswad56HMBg&ved=0CA0QyBM
UPDATE:
Additional Drivers within a booked vehicle will be 25 quid. This will also entitle the additional driver to ride as a passenger in any vehicle (or drive it based on owner - no TWOCing please!!). Additional drivers must attend the safety briefing.
Passenger only tickets are just 10 quid - and you can ride in any booked vehicle.
For safety & other T&Cs please visit the link at the top.
UPDATE 2 - (21st Nov 2011)
I can confirm that we now have a group booking code. You will need to ring ClubMSV rather than booking online. Code unsurprisingly enough is WD40.
Additional drives can be pre-booked on pay on the day. Same for passengers
Number to call is 0843 453 3000 then press 1 for cars. State the event: Cadwell Park - 11th Feb 2011 & quote WD40

i said no, just a filter change LOL
Its running 1.3 bar de cat, i cut it out, and no managment lights on!!
manual HLM map and it pulls and pulls, and as for handling H&R springs and 18 wheels
Well my gay gold Volvo wasnt flavour of the month, with the 911 guys!!!!
I love my C70 it just great fun and since i de catted it 27.5 mpg win win

Post 423388 by viggen on 2011-11-09 16:37:58
Its a great track, that if you keep your nerve along the back straight leading into the left hander you can hit 120 :worship:
Its a tight track but the c70 loved it
Post 423389 by Wobbly Dave on 2011-11-09 16:39:32
To be honest - it doesnt matter so long as it don't disintergrate. So long as you have fun & go home in 1 piece then all will be well.

DAVE add me to the list please. I'll run whatever car I feel like on the day.

Only a 4hr drive each way.

Indeed it was BB - I had him dead on that straight but he wouldn't yield so I backed off to make the corner (no overtaking on corners allowed).
I think if I have an idea of numbers before Xmas that will be good

Going on past experiences - passengers can usually sign on for ten quid & additional drivers within the same vehicle for thirty five.
Bring what ever you feel happier in. At the end of the day it's just a fun day of unlimited driving. I will double check with ClubMSV & post at the top.
Post 423852 by Wobbly Dave on 2011-11-10 16:22:55
Just spoken to ClubMSV - I am getting a group booking code from them soon & I have confirmed the prices of passengers & additional drivers. Once that code is in place then we should be able to start booking it up!

The winners are always the ones that get to take their cars home in one piece. It is unlimited driving - but it isn't racing as such & timing is strictly prohibited - just drive within your limits. You will build up confidence & speed hopefully as the day goes on. Overtaking is done by co-operation. I'd go far as to say that it is less risky that driving on a A-Road. At least everything is going in the same direction & the run off & danger points are covered by gravel traps. As I said it's all about having fun!

Assuming enough cars book then I am certain (so long as you either bring or hire a helmet) there will be plenty of room for a few laps.

In March we stayed at a B&B close by - it was cheap & cheerful & the breakfasts are spot on. I will get the details and post them up.
Can't do much about the weather I'm afraid. It might snow - it might be sunny.

We stayed here at the Beaumont Hotel.
http://thebeaumonthotel.co.uk/
Twin room was 105 quid - shared that is good value IMHO - and the bar was warm & friendly.
Perhaps we could look for something a little cheaper?

50 Quid a head isnt bad for a twin, that said if one can be found cheaper then obviously for one nights kip it doesnt matter if its not a five star service.
Post 428198 by Wobbly Dave on 2011-11-21 01:05:11
I have looked around on Late Rooms & Booking dot com & to be honest there isn't a lot a great deal cheaper.

I can confirm that we now have a group booking code. You will need to ring ClubMSV rather than booking online. Code unsurprisingly enough is WD40.

Cheers DAVE. Will book Mine on Thursday(payday)
Post 428494 by Wobbly Dave on 2011-11-22 01:35:25
I had a message from the organisers. Discount will be refunded once the 10 car limit is reached. To avoid confusion I will pay the value of this discount up front & then they can give it me back.
Post 438818 by Wobbly Dave on 2011-12-21 14:09:05
Great news - I have booked & the price has dropped to 99 quid - which if we have enough interest will mean it will be only 90 pounds with the WD40 booking code - but you must book by phone & quote WD40!!

Im definately off work, still uncertain on tracking the car though... can I afford the brakes and tyres? Probably not.... mmm
I can see me having to give this some more serious thought.
In either case as I am off work I will be at least attending in my capacity as a spectator/backseat driver!!

on any other track day, you can spectate for free and pay on the day for a passenger wristband, which would allow you as many rides as possible.
from the organisers point of view, they would prefer it if you booked in advance, saves time on the day and they might limit numbers??

Do what we did then mate......tell no family what your doing, get your 10 best friends together and away you go, then off to a nice resturant and eat and drink till you cant stand, cost me less than a grand for the whole day, and with the money saved by not paying for people we dont really know/like buggered off to Cape Town the next day, simples :)

Luckily for me, neither of us want a big wedding or anything, its just not us.
Thats why i didn't mind spending so much (relatively speaking) on the engagement ring - well thats what i keep telling myself anyway.

For spectating - you do not need to book or ring up, just come on the day.
I think for passengers & for additional drivers you can POTD - but you will need to be there in time for the safety briefing otherwise you will not be able to get the requisite wrist bands & the marshalls will not allow you on track.
I haven't started booking accomodation. It looks very much that the Mrs & the Wibble will be staying at home.
Bookings dot com & laterooms dot com are both good places to find cheap hotels. It would be nice if we could find somewhere together.

Plenty of B&B`s in Louth and Horncastle which are both 20 mins away

The tyre blistering will be minimal at that time of year - particularly if the track is a little damp to start with.
I think that you are much less likely to crash than OTR - as everything is going in the same direction.
To avoid melty brakes - you should limit yourself to 6 - 7 hot laps with a warm up & cool down at each end of the session.

One bed going if there is another tight arse like me who doesnt mind sharing a room and wants to save a tenner over a single!
Just checked and for the date there is two doubles and one single left double at £55 and single at £40.
Guess this means Im coming :)

My only real concern at the moment with tracking is my lack of experience? Ultimately I dont want to walk away with a blown up or smashed up car.
Im seriously considering my options... perhaps do this first?

Yeah was thinking blocks of 3-4 laps just to evaluate how long the cars going to survive at first. (Though knowing me, once I'm out there I will probably lose count).

you shouldn't come away with a broken car, if your sensible.
speeds are much lower than you think.
when I booked,I was offered the instructor session.
I will take this up on the day, should I make it. £20ish and 15mins with someone that knows the track and how to drive round it. very valuable time and money well spent.
also that day in particular is after WD40!!

Only thing is - you drive within your own limits - this is not a race & there is no timing allowed. Conditions will also dictate the pace. Overtaking is by co-operation. If someone is coming up & is faster than you, move to the right of the track (no overtaking allowed on corners) & back off the throttle. All of this is covered in the safety briefing - but there is nowt to worry about.

Everyone that is running a car needs to be at the briefing on time & you need perhaps 20/30 mins before that to check in. Passengers can pay before or after that briefing.

Mine last time was quieter than the D5 green goddess. Unless you have a side cut - you'll be very unlikley to fail the test.

If mine can go through, you will be fine.
Make sure the car is nice and warm.
You will be asked your max revs and then asked to throttle to about 3/4's of that.the higher the figure you give, more throttle.....:)
They will do drive-by testing too, but as your aware, turbo cars are quieter on track
I am running a full 3" with only 1 silencer and checked in at 102db with a straight outlet on the turbo, with my new angled downpipe it has dropped to 98db.

I'd love to make this, but it doesn't look likely now (work commitments) unfortunately!
I'd even had the towbar fitting scheduled and got tyres sorted for the car!
"Next time around" eh.
Have a great day everyone!
Right here is where I am at.
I have booked my Hotel so I am coming regardless as a minimum of a spectator.
At the moment I am waiting on a 16T to arrive, a set of new shoes and a re-map. If I get the above done in time Ill be tracking.
Is there a deadline for booking Dave? If so I may have to book and take my chances?
I don't believe there is any cut off. The cut off will be when there are no spaces left. This is unlikely to fill right up due to it being so early in the year.
List at the moment...

I out dragged him onto the start finish straight, but he wouldn't yield & Copse was coming up quickly so I bailed out the throttle. The white V70 was being driven by Barnsley Bill. Granted it wasnt by a lot, but I bottled out on taking him through the corner.

Post 454252 by Wobbly Dave on 2012-01-25 12:22:50
Well I was seriously unimpressed by his track craft. He wouldn't yield & at one point I had to back right off because of all the faster cars queued up on me. You'll see that on the vid, just before the mountain complex.

Frankie - make sure you are measuring correctly:
Exert from the website of how they will be testing:
The initial test is a static test which is carried out using a handheld meter. Each car is measured 0.5 meters away from the exhaust at a 45 degree angle when the engine is being held at ¾ of the maximum RPM. In cases where the vehicle has two separated exhausts the measurement will be taken as below from the median point between the two.
It doesn't look like they do a drive by test..

What Liam said!!!
Oh and assuming most of your mileage is at 56mph like mine then its safe to say high speed cornering and agility isnt practised for most of those miles :croc:
I dont know why Frankie but I get this imagine of inside your brain and all that is rotating is one word "POWER!" ;)

We have our 10 cars - so I will call ClubMSV on Monday to discuss how to get everybodies £10 back. Any additional cars will obviously be discounted from now on.
This is awesome & I am beside myself with excitement!!

Well my turbo will not be fitted in time now, unfortunately having issues with the delivery. A little annoyed as I have four new Yokohama Parada Spec 2's going on tomorrow ready for the track... that was a waste! Simply not worth running when I can only boost 6psi without issues.
So if there are any passenger rides going... ;)

Santa (Running if SPEC can be arsed to build my clutch!)

Dave, thanks too. A trip in betsy is not an opportunity to miss.
I have to admit now I have seen it the packhorse does look the better venue, for a start its a pub ;)
Ill be kicking about at 7pm then if your in town Frankie.
Can I suggest an exchange of telephone numbers to those who are "pubbing it"

There is a bar area in the Beaumont - but I am happy to come & find you lot.
I would ask those that have spare helmets - to bring them along - to make passenger rides easier/ less costly.

I think my clutch would end up in pieces like frankie's if i took it on the track. Not sounding healthy at min. Loosing quite a a bit of oil from a seal down back of the box at min too.
Got my new wheels on tonight and the rears are rubbing badly. Bit of moddifying needed on the weekend i think. LOL

Just 18" Rims on 225/40 tyres. There's only nearside which is rubbing on the edge of the arch but strangely it rubs no matter which way you turn. Its maybe because that's what side my sub/amp is sitting on.

Well I've canceled my order with Spec for the clutch and flywheel. It will be another 10 days before they even look to build it. I've called TTV racing to see what they can do. IMPORTANT NEWS!!
Those who have booked via the phone will receive their booking confirmation via email in the next couple of days. This will include the promised 10% discount.
Sadly Wayne & Vitch - who booked online cannot get this. I am really sorry chaps but the only way for ClubMSV to process the discount is to wait until the last minute to see if we reached critical mass (of 10 cars).
However you are still part of the group.
Anyone who still wants to go - if you phone ClubMSV & use the WD40 group code - ClubMSV has said that they may be able to squeeze a few more car in. You cannot do this via the online booking form!!

ClubMSV have said if the event is cancelled due to poor weather conditions - then they will offer everyone a credit to the value of their booking.
I am hoping that as this on the east coast that the cold front will be strong enough to keep any snow to the western side of the Pennines. I hope it stays sunny, dry & cold, like it has been recently.

I looked at the long range met forecast its supposed to be 20-26 mph winds from the SW, temps will be 4-6 degrees but with wind chill factor feel like 0 but the sun will be out! and no chance of rain, there for no snow!

but i will have an instructor for the first few so that will be ok and like i said 3 hrs of road use to get the heat in to them first! and its not as if they go stone cold again straight away?

Lol. I might camp out at trax. Sounded like it was fun last year. Sure I can rough it for 1 night. Lol.
I'm hoping for lovely sun. My phone says sun for sat. I've just spoke to a fella that's come back from Harrogate this morn and he couldn't come back by the a66 which is the way I was going to go because it's blocked by couple foot of snow.

Just had a message of Wayne (Judgeninja) saying Cadwell is cancelled???
Post 460766 by JUDGENINJA on 2012-02-09 16:05:24
Yep Check Emails
Due to the continued adverse weather conditions at Cadwell Park, we have unfortunately been forced to cancel the car trackday on Saturday 11th February. Although the circuit itself is now clear of snow, the persistently low temperatures over the last few days have not allowed areas such as the gravel traps and run off to significantly thaw. As such it would not be safe to operate the circuit in such conditions. We apologise for any disappointment this may cause.
The event has been rescheduled to run on Saturday 25th February. All timings will remain the same.
If the rescheduled date is not suitable a credit voucher can be issued to your Club MSV account to the value of your original booking. Credit vouchers can be used towards any Club MSV event within the next 12 months. Please contact us at trackdays@clubmsv.co.uk to receive a credit voucher. For the avoidance of doubt, we do not offer refunds for events that are cancelled due to adverse weather.
Further trackday dates can be found at - http://www.clubmsv.com/car-home/calendar.aspx

I think the thumb in the air physics of rain vs snow from my marshalling days is:
Stopping distance is about 5 times longer (10 times further compared to dry) and at high speeds will mean that you'll bounce off the barrier at almost full speed.... This would be a challenge, but when the red mist hits with us amatuers things would quickly decend into chaos... then add the Grass factor and you might never stop and float off into oblivion.

when they made that decision the track had no snow at all it was the frozen run off areas that was the cause for concern, and lots of people lost money on hotels cos 1 days notice was sufficient in their eyes

The look of fear from Zoe as we slid 70-100m sideways as We thought the car might flip.....priceless..

Certainly got an appetite for more trackdays now!!

Great day. Thanks for organising it Dave. I'm glad I forced myself into going even in a pain killer dosed up state to help combat the effects of man plague.
Car, dispite some issues (clutch which is a known issue and the brake fluid getting slightly hot causing a lack of....well...brakes) performed ok. Glad I didnt have to take the racing to seriously which meant more fun. Got to say my favorite bit of the track is the hill that goes down and up then a blind crest and into a sharp corner....brilliant whilst flat out in 4th :-)
Even though the driving was fun it was especially great to meet up with old friend and to meet new people I hadnt met before :-)

The drive home was certainly interesting, a short road trip with Wayne and Pete down the A158, A158, B1193, A52 then onto the A17.
Pete managed to break down after trying to keep up with my slushomatic 850... a quick spin around and diagnosed to be a boost hose... simply pop it back on tighten the clip and away we go.
On a good note however a certain McDonalds was greeted by three 850's and a V70 T5 on the way back when we bumped into BlackBeast and Greg again!
Quality day and I really hope to do it again soon.

Thanks to everyone for coming - was just the best day out. Cheers to Vitch & Frankie (& mini frank) for a lovely evening on Friday. My head hurt quite a bit this morning.
Cheers to the MSV people - I managed to book an instructor after lunch who, as a special treat took me out in the M3 safety car. Betsy never missed a beat all day long.
I have lots of videos to watch & process - but for those that missed it here is Woody (Dean) stacking it at the top of the Goosesneck chicane.

Sadly the values go a bit weird when you render them to video (they don't match the values seen on the phone). It must be down to the Java applet needed to convert the video. If you listen - the sound & the rising of the rpm values do not match up!! Even so it gives a rough idea.

Here it is - bit long winded but your flamer is at the start - just turning into Coppice
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnXPZoc6UyA[/ame]
I thought it included my best lap - but sadly not...
I have also edited up our trip out together
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umOP4xWr0Zw[/ame]
- with your expert commentary ;) and it also includes me outbraking myself into Mansfield (left hander at the bottom of the hill below the gooseneck)
This has my best recorded lap which is just under 2 minutes. I think I was a bit faster with the instructor but I guess we'll never know.
Post 467256 by LiamT4 on 2012-02-26 20:45:19
Right then race drivers -
what discs and pads were you using, how many laps did you do and how did well did they cope?
Post 467270 by JUDGENINJA on 2012-02-26 21:08:25
DS2500.. Good, but dead by 10:00.. Ran Mintex pads for the rest of the day.
Brembo Max front disks... Still going strong.
Post 467276 by Wobbly Dave on 2012-02-26 21:12:30
Zimmerman 302 plain disks, Ferodo DS 2500 pads, dot 5.1 brake fluid, goodridge lines.
The braking I would say was on the whole pretty good. Only issue with fade occurred when I really got going with the instructor, particularly at the end of the Park Straight (I did get quicker as the day went on).
I could back off the pace and keep it going. I was able to do 6 or 7 laps without any problems.
Zimmermans held up very well. - First time ever they didn't warp!!
Post 467289 by JUDGENINJA on 2012-02-26 21:23:49

Post 467340 by BlackBeast on 2012-02-26 22:14:42
S60R volvo discs all round with XP8s in the front and s60r standard pads in the rear. No issues with brakes at all throughout the day. Can't imagine what XP10/12s are like.

Standard discs and calipers with Carbotech XP8 pads.
My issues seemed to be down to brake fluid which at one point saw me having no brakes at all

I am nearly there - just have a few issues with authentication.
http://www.smartftp.com/
Download this & follow the instructions (this assumes you have Windows XP or above)
Once the console is open - put the URL for the site in (I've sent these via PM) with the credentials I have also sent.
If in the log pane reports a timeout on connection then let me know.
Once accepted - use the link in the right hand pane to open the local browser. Navigate to your video - drag & drop them over to the left - either that or right click on the initial folder & select upload.
