First off been really busy at work, it's been one of those weeks were everything you touch including the simple jobs goes wrong or has to be a ball ache.
To finish it off with last night around the back of 9 I got a knock at the door to be greeted by an older man and women who both looked very white in the face to tell me that they had hit my car!! F***ing joy I thought, went out to have a look and she had infact driven down the side of my car and damaged both the o/s doors. After as you can imainge how pleased I was and after I had bent her ear telling her this, she gave me all the info I needed. As I work in the motor trade I popped the car in today to the bodyshop to start the ball rolling on getting it repaired. Her insurance company has spoken to me saying that she has 100% admitted the blame and that they would wait my estimate which the bodyshop has now sent for £1,160.
I'm now playing the waiting game......
I know we spend a bucket load on them and at the end of the day its only a 1997 volvo but how much do you reckon the car is worth??

Very sorry to hear your bad news, but the positive is at least they stopped and told you!
Value wise, there's the book value which is probably on the low side, and then there's your value with the mods etc. Must be worth repairing...

Bad times mate. It's violating when stuff like that happens, as above, at least they had the decency to stop and tell you and admit liability.
An insurance company would, more than likely, write it off with a repair bill like that, but if it can be fixed, personally, I would.
Post 427460 by jayeastanglia on 2011-11-18 19:41:45
and if they want to write it off ask how much to buy back from them and then repair it yourself from there payout..
Post 427461 by Jamest5r on 2011-11-18 19:44:04
Gutted for you, but as said above at least they told you, if you think the car can be mint again to a satisfaction that your happy to live with then keep it, if not get it written off and buy it back cheap?.
Post 427470 by daza-b on 2011-11-18 19:58:15
get every penny you can out of them, then show them the advert, should have gone to specsavers!!

Not good news, but at least they told you. When something similar happend to my brothers car, the git just drove off, luckily he managed to find the driver.
Anyway, in the condition your car was in i'd say £2k minimum.

Bit sorry for you mate mine was hit a few weeks ago and no one came forward lucky it was superficial just needs a bit of t-cut and touch up sorting it tomorrow. Get all you can, use photo evidence and stick them out. I'm a Swedish nut i had a Saab 99 turbo written off they offered me sod all and i stuck them out got photo evidence and a mate did an engineers report,in the end got a good deal. Don't let the system win. GOOD LUCK!
Post 427508 by Shadow on 2011-11-18 20:42:31
thats **** mate. at least they told you instead of driving off. as for how much it's worth i don't think it maters.its your car and it your pride and joy you said it your self we spend a fortune keeping our "old cars" in better nic than some of the newer crap thats on the road just now. if it was my car i would'nt let them right if off no matter how much they offered me. it would never buy me the same car. but thats just me even if i bought another t5r it would'nt be the same as the one i have now. i get to emotionally attached to my cars.
Post 427518 by Jimmie on 2011-11-18 20:55:37
You can insist in getting it repaired as she hit you b.ut it might annoy your nc regardless
Post 427569 by merc85 on 2011-11-18 23:21:42
Ffs sake cant belive a MINT car like your's has been run down the side,
2k id say But its gonna be hard to convince the insurance company.
My Merc 190 had a simlar thing happen, We bought it back from the insurance company and did the work are selves.
Didnt wanna see it scrapped, then sold it a few years later.
Mate i really do feel for you. At least no one ie you was hurt, and they had the decentcy to stop.
Finking of you buddy hope it all works out ok.

Jimbo, your car is worth much more than the repair work. I'm glad that at least you got hit by an honest person. Many times people would have scarpered! Sad news your car is bent. Great news they freely admitted the liability! Stick to your guns and 110% insist its repaired to a very high standard!

Cheers Niles, I've taken the car to the bodyshop of my choice rather than the one that was recommend to me by her insurance company. The work they do is very good and they always complete every car to a high standard so fingers crossed she'll be back looking good again. To be fair the lady that hit my car is one of those rare people that are 100% honest and genuine, prob goes to church I reckon lol, I did thank her for coming forward and telling me what she did as she was and still is very upset for what she did!
All I can do is wait now......miss not having the car already lol

Really gutted for you mate -drag their loss adjuster out to view her.
I had a drive off who slapped the back of the black beauty a few years ago broke the rear axle - I had a struggle to convince the insurance company that's she was 110% - as they wrote her off - but i'd kept every receipt, even fuel ('cause i'mself employed) Premium petrol, new brake fluid, new rear exhaust bracket etc, etc, then I had to badger the company to get a claims man out - when he came round he said if he hadnt seen her in the flesh I'd have got £1500 but as she was still shiny n well fed...£2700.
didnt make up for the loss, but she never let me down : )

Very sorry to hear of your troubles Jim, as mensioned your playing a difficult game of re-sale value and book value and as we know these cars are worth far more than the book value, that can be proven.
If you know you are going to keep the car and will run it till it breaks then if the repair is too high as mensioned get them to write it off and buy it back. This was you will have your bills paid but it will be a CAT D.
Either way best of luck and I hope its sorted soon.

Well I've just had a phone call from the bodyshop and the insurance company have agreed to repair the car :) :) :) :) she'll be back in good shape in next to no time at all. The engineer came down and took one look at the car and said "that's abit special, well worth keeping" so that's a result in my books!!
Thanks everyone for your support during this issue.
I'll see if I can get a before and after picture added too

So glad its sorted mate, I have always said your car is something special.
After experiencing for the first time how a Volvo should handle in your car it would have been a deep shame.
