I've copied and pasted this from another site so hope that's ok? saves me a little time and gets me up to speed with how she is now. My dads a stickler when it comes to cars and wants them in tip top if they are in 'the family' SO £400 lighter on bits the day after I bought her..... the list reads the following: cam belt aux belt tensioners water pump air filter oil filter plugs leads dizzy rota arm front lower arms new engine stabliser rear gas struts for boot new door pins rear shocks front shocks and springs Anyway some pictures after I got it back and gave it a quick clean Image Image Image Image Image Image I wasn't sure about the wheels at first, but after mating up the volvo centre caps (which arn't for these wheels) they suit them well, so they are being modified as we speak, wheels are also off having the stripped back and a nice new lick of paint. The bonnet has a blemish and laquer peel, so thats off having that repainted, along with rear arches cut and sealed and painted (alloys are et28 so catch with 205 rear tyres) then after a few weeks after popping a core plug between block and gearbox! the engine had to come out, so its been cleaned up, new clutch, core plugs, gaskets and anything else needed (poor bloke at uniparts) while engine was out ive cleaned up and painted any bits that looked tatty and did same to engine bay with a little twist I'm still working on Image Image although it looks in your face once engine is back in you wont see half them anyway just nice to have a splash of colour ;D

Post 430433 by mardell100 on 2011-11-27 22:43:41

I also bought this one Image Image this was going to get put back on the road but has more leaks than I care to look for, which meant the interior could go in the red one - like so: Image Image Image how the engine is at the min: Image and while looking behind panels I found a mouse nest...... Image car should be up and running this weekend :)

Post 430434 by mardell100 on 2011-11-27 22:44:12

Iphone is rubbish for pics so went out with camera, but low light and my poop camera skillz ment it looked like I took them off phone again........ and why does the car feel smoother and better when freshly cleaned lol Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

Post 430436 by mardell100 on 2011-11-27 22:44:43

At this point I've had her just over a year now and have put 24k miles on her as she is my daily (70mile commute) and have enjoyed every mile! get stopped by so many randoms of publicness asking about her/how clean she is. Every mechanical part has now been refreshed, replaced - and is now time to tackle body work niggles - the winter hasnt been kind to the rear arches so their next on the list. anyway pictures: Image Image Image Image Image Image Image I've since added half leather, tints, momo steering wheel and boss, new gauges and stereo probably loads missed.

Post 430437 by mardell100 on 2011-11-27 22:45:26

MURDERED MOOSE begins: Over the past few months I've been debating what route to take with the car, I like it red but needs a fair bit of body work to get upto my standards, so decided as I do the Vinyl graphics maybe having a play with vinyl wrapping..... So 'The Murdered Moose' was born! This is going to be over the next few months as work is hectic but have started with the following Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image had the original wheels fully refurbed in Gun Metal Grey, idea here was as the car is going Matte Black the grey would be better suited. Image Image Image my little added touches, can be pulled off nice and easily. Image Image Image Image

Post 430438 by mardell100 on 2011-11-27 22:45:57

Anyway I want to take up some track days so have gone on the mission to strip her of weight, I would love to get 100kg out of her she weights 1040kg so want to get her under a ton. So started with the interior, the half leather front seats weighed in a fair bit, so where replaced with bucket seats Image Image Image they look a bit dirty but there new lol Ive started to strip the rear out of all plastics, seats, belts, speakers anything not needed is going.

Welcome to the forum, That's a lovely looking motor I'm getting an itch......

Post 430444 by p fandango on 2011-11-27 22:58:38

very good job on the roof wrap, suits it well. Needs a turbo front lip on it tho

Post 430445 by Jim S70R on 2011-11-27 23:00:10

Coming along nicely, I think new colour for the wheels actually suit it.

Post 430448 by mardell100 on 2011-11-27 23:03:13
very good job on the roof wrap, suits it well. Needs a turbo front lip on it tho
Got one waiting to go on :) the whole cars being wrapped but just seen my supplier does Anthracite Matt.... same as the focus RS 500 Image changes things slightly.

Post 430455 by AndysR on 2011-11-27 23:21:15

Looks lovely, I actually think the matt black roof and anthracite alloys look smart. I think going completely matt black may be too much, the contrast currently between the wheels and red paintwork along with the matt black roof really work well and it would be a shame to go too far and spoil that theme..

Post 430457 by Wobbly Dave on 2011-11-27 23:40:45

If you fancy a track day then check out WD40 in meet ups - Nice looking machine btw

Post 430485 by M-R-P on 2011-11-28 09:38:40

Hmmm, intriguing... Like it :)

Post 435005 by mardell100 on 2011-12-10 21:47:52

we have some progress ;D After further investigation of the arches they weren't actually as bad as I thought :D Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Got bored and thought i'd try out the new vinyl wrap colour :) Anthracite Matte, not many people are sure of my 'vision' but im going ahead with it anyway worst case it gets pulled back off which is a big bonus :) Thought I'd start on the lights as a 'tester/taster' Image Image The effect Image Image

Post 435008 by mardell100 on 2011-12-10 21:48:24

Post 441069 by mardell100 on 2011-12-28 17:50:41

Very nearly there :) just bonnet to do - but ran out of vinyl so have some coming tomorrow. Then everything can be fitted back up and a good clean :) cant wait to get her back on the road. Image Image Image Image Ps, the bottom of the seals and the door shuts will be sprayed grey, to match - have already done one side and it looks great, infact cant even tell the difference between spray and wrap.

Post 441078 by dalhousie2008 on 2011-12-28 18:27:50

kind of liked the red, but the boost gauge in the middle of dash is very cool. What are you doing to the engine?

Post 441091 by KellyJones on 2011-12-28 19:55:14

I work at Mercedes Benz in Milton keynes, have spotted this 480 a few times. nice.

Post 447603 by mardell100 on 2012-01-10 15:40:00

thought i'd posted these up..... but the next stage complete :) decided on a colour change at the last moment and it works well, although a mate has kindly pointed out it looks like the same colours as the new citreon DS3.....! jolly pain in the backside Image Image Image Image Image Image

Post 463769 by mardell100 on 2012-02-16 19:17:57

Thought it was time to crack out the vinyl cutter and get something done on the car as its been a while (skiing, little one off, decorating and the normal stuff in between) anyway started with this: Image Image Applied: Image Image Image PS anyone else interested in vinyl graphics just ask :) even if you have an idea i could probably chuck something together.

Post 463774 by M-R-P on 2012-02-16 19:26:00

Nice! I'd like to do a little lettering on the rear bumper of mine but Mrs. MRP would cut my man-spuds off lol.

Post 463781 by mardell100 on 2012-02-16 19:37:39

My misses hasn't taken a shine to it either.... but then she is actually 'the plod' ha when she asked what 'hoonigan' stood for ‎[*noun, see hoon or hooning: a person who participates in any type of reckless driving including but not limited to drifting, drag racing, and burnouts] it wet down like a wet fart in a lift.

Post 473160 by jayeastanglia on 2012-03-11 20:35:40

looks nice just need a few more pics from diffrent angles to really show off that roof and front spoiler. Havent seen a 480 for ages ,There used to be a pre production one at ipswich colledge when i went there back in the 1990s but as far as i know it got crushed not long after i left as the colledge couldnt sell it as it was donated by volvo.

Post 473331 by mardell100 on 2012-03-12 16:20:43

more are requested :) the grey is lovely, in any light/weather it just looks so good, its hard to explain but as you don't get any reflections or shadows in direct sunlight it doesn't look real ha Image Image Image Image

Post 473333 by T5frankie on 2012-03-12 16:24:24

nice, lose the door stickers though

Post 473336 by volvokid on 2012-03-12 16:29:57

Post 474452 by glock19 on 2012-03-16 05:58:26

You really have a good pair of hands. Scares me to use the heater gun for prolong periods of time on a vinyl. Can you make the BTCC strips for the 850 ?

Post 474453 by glock19 on 2012-03-16 06:00:20

Mind including a "How-To" for applying the wraps ? Or it's just basic common sense ? Would be interested in how to wrap a concave part.

Post 474896 by mardell100 on 2012-03-17 18:37:05
You really have a good pair of hands. Scares me to use the heater gun for prolong periods of time on a vinyl. Can you make the BTCC strips for the 850 ?
I cant cut any thing larger than 24" at the moment :( can be as long as you like but 24" width only just been looking at a larger cutter and a vinyl printer too. drop me a pm if you have any questions, I should have enough pictures to do a 'how to' but best place to start is youtube, buy some of ebay and give it a go, you would be surprised how easy vinyl is to use.

Post 530679 by mardell100 on 2012-08-15 09:31:48

what a crappy last few months.... meh. Anyway Small Update ;D Did a rolling road day which included weighing the car, I was wishing it would be under a ton, epic fail I filled up with petrol 2 minutes away from RGS!! completely forgot. The car came in at 1020kg and 160bhp (had boost set at 8psi rather than 14) so was pleased with that - considering its 21yrs old and 160k on the clock. So weight saving is on - enter the new seats :) Image Image Replacing the old bucket seats has saved me 42kg in total!! can't believe how much! Puts me in at 978kg (full tank) and all I've really done is remove the interior. One thing that was highlighted on the rolling day was the position of the air filter (behind the battery) with no cold feed, so battery tray is ready to go in rear. The front and rear bumper have the crash beam that weighs a massive amount - be happy to see the car between 900 - 920

Post 530701 by smithy on 2012-08-15 14:27:55

nice motor always had a soft spot for the 480 turbo.
