Hiya guys heard a lot of talk about "hlm" ecus, can someone enlighten me on what they are? how much they are and what they do. Are they universal? im going to be wanting 2 uprated ecus, one for my 2.4 turbo and one for the t5, thanks in advance :)

HLM are Hamish Lindsay Motorsport - based in Bromsgrove. I rate their tuning efforts very highly. HLM have custom tuned Betsy on the dyno. I believe the stock maps they provide have just come down in price. You can check them out - http://www.hlmtuning.co.uk/ I guess when peeps talk about HLM ECU's they actually mean ECU's running HLM tuned maps.

I believe they have slashed the prices on the off-the-shelf maps for all Volvos, even the 2.4L T5s

i would probably have to send the ecu to them, would that make a difference?

Post 435561 by Wobbly Dave on 2011-12-12 00:35:02

I think you'd enjoy it more if you went there & had a run on the dyno - which I believe is included in the price?? (best ask), but postal services are availabe, according to the website. You could wait until later next year - when there is a charidy RR day planned. Or you could do the post thing & then show up at that day? My recommendation would be to go there & then if anything unexpected turns up during the tuning process then you can get it sorted there & then.

I think a member with a S60 2.4 T5 now has 321bhp...

Post 453002 by Wobbly Dave on 2012-01-22 12:48:44

850s depending on age/ condition may see as much as 40 - 50 bhp gains. They are so old now it is almost impossible to predict. The 2.4 T5 is one of the ones that does respond the best to just mapping alone - but don't forget ME9 has VVT on both intake & exhaust & has a KKK turbo.

Besides the car being and it being rapid is there any markings on the ecu to say its been played with? And what model ecus are there and what do the numbers like hlm208 for example mean

hamish wrote on my ecu after it was done, the 850/phase 1 remaps are £150 not including a dyno run, with a £100 surcharge on top if you want to send in your ecu, me7 and phase 2 t5's are £300 with a run before and after the map on the dyno, hlm 304 is for super unleaded and 280 is designed for normal unleaded
