S60 2.4T 200bhp AFR befor and after remap

Hello everyone
Planning to remap my 2.4T what could give me about 30bhp extra.
Before doing it want to make sure that engine is running fine.
What i've noticed is that in hard acceleration AFR stays in between 14.2-14.5,
lambda 0.98-0.92. I have factory fited wideband O2 sensor and ECU stays in CL all the way up.
Is that correct AFR in hard acceleration for this engine, which is B5244T3.
I bought new MAF, there is no faults, fuel trims seems to be ok, O2 sensor switches (avg 1 at idle, AFR 14.6-14.7)
Planning to visit HLM, but before that i want to make sure that there is everything fine with the engine.

Not sure about your readings but your engine has major potential depending how deep your pockets are ;)

To be honest i spoke to 2 Volvo specialists and no one gave me satisfying answer, looked like they have no idea whats correct AFR for this engine.
If thats correct AFR its possible to achieve quite a lot by remapping the ECU which means to get the engine running rich lets say AFR about 11.
As far as i know max i can get by remapping is about 30-35bhp and 60-70NM of torque.

Well, from what I've learned here, with a bigger turbo, bigger injectors and then a remap (plus a few other bits and bobs) you'd be looking at a 100hp increase. Like I said, depends on your budget. Hamish at HLM will be able to give you a definitive answer regarding your readings. From what I've read about HLM, they won't just throw a map at it and send you on your way.
I'm hoping to head up there myself, funds permitting.

My S60 is FWD so im not sure if its worth to put so much power on just 2 wheels. i reckon 4WD would make sens.
Definitely will give this guys call, very interested what they gonna say about AFR.

It's daft to get a 2.4 T and tune the arse outta that.
You'd be better off just going with a remap and enjoying 230bhp of lag free surge :)
or get a T5.....
you'll be ok up to about 350bhp if you get a quaife... any more and it could get interesting... depends if you like getting a workout when you drive or not :)

yours is a low pressure turbo i would say but them afrs seem to be on the lean side to me but when you go to hamish at hlm he will sort all that out for you and the remap will sort any other issues out with the car.the 30 bhp extra is very conservative they normally produce more.and because you are running a small turbo the will be no lag and will go like stink mate.get the map done you wont be disapointed.also hamish always does a run on the rollers before and after so that will show the genuine afrs the car is producing before and after the remap.

Wouldn't a better turbo and map turn it into a T5 any way? The older T5s are 250bhp with a smaller cc and a dull map (i know) and an S60 won't be as lairy as a S40 with with the same power due to the extra weight and wider stantz.
I recon, after the remap, the bug may well bite ;).

they are not the same engine mate but they do map well and pull like a steam train due to the small turbo.i had a v70 2.5lpt and standard the car would do a quater in 16.2 just after a remap it did 15.2 standard power was 193bhp and remapped power was 240bhp but more alot more torque than a t5.it was a very quick car mate

I meant the 2.4 block itself, being very strong (I'm presuming the block is the same?), given the right tuning they can chuck out serious horses depending on the size of bank balance and size of yer balls lol.
Sertainly not trying to say that a remap alone isn't enough, more singing the praises of the Volvo 5 pot ;)

I was under the impression the block, head, and various other bits were the same as a t 5. I won't risk arguing about it cos I'm still a newbie and don't wanna get shot down lol.

to be honest mate i dont know ether and know about the 2.3 t5 and pre me7 engine boxs etc ,all i know is the 2.4t5 engine is the strongest volvo ever built.but still not as strong as a redblock though lol

AFRS around stoich (14.7) or Lambda 1 are common in stock/mild turbo cars - they will run richer if component protection is required. Mapping will include running more boost and this is a useful article on fuelling - fundamental stuff. Not sure how experienced you are with this so forgive me if it's patronising.

Good job mate. This article is the answer to my question.
I specialize in LPG installation so there was no problem with understanding this article, very useful.
Most of the cars i met run with lambda a lot less than 0.9 (0.8 or even 0.7) so what i've experianced with 2.4T (LPT) whas not what i was expecting.
When i tune LPG conversion i always do it to the same lambda or AFR as on the petrol.
When i unpluged MAF, AFR droped down to even 10.8 so it was the reason of component protection.

Got the confirmation from HLM Hamish and they run with lambda 0.9-1
and booked in for tuning this saturday.

Hi everyone.
Some new boost been achieved on my 2.4T and from standard 1.31bar reached max 1.72bar.
Running full boost and max 6200rpm on lpg without noticeable power difference.
Very satisfied from car performance and HLM service.

i recon an exhaust and racecat would be better mate but the cone filters do sound nice though even though a panel performance filter will do fine mate

a low pressure turbo does not boost at 1.31 bar mate thats 19 psi the clue is in the name low pressure a t5 standard is only 0.8 bar which is a high pressure turbo, 1.72 bar = 25 psi

The max MAP value on NA engines is 1bar so on turbo engines max MAP is >1bar
following that im not wrong.
I agree that extra boost i got before was 0.31bar and after 0.72.

On the older LPTs (850 and V70) the standard LPT mapped pressure is about 6psi. The smaller turbo runs out of flow somewhere around 14psi.
Not sure what the later cars will run to as I'm not sure what turbo they use

Frankie, please don't start matey......rules are to protect you lot more than me.....unless you already have the points and SP50 for the crime its best not advertising that you did it, I would hate to have to be forced by court order to hand over IP details etc.

ive done 80000 miles so far this year and not one speeding offence for this year or any year cos i have never been done for speeding, and as if i'd speed in a 30 zone i have 6 kids mate

Can i ask how the law works regarding this issue?
I means if theres no witness/video etc, then how can you be prosecuted for typing a sentence? Wheres the proof, you could be making it up.

Why force the forum admin team which tries to act in the members interests into a difficult situation where they may be forced into handing over all data they have on a member.
Its hard to draw a line where it is and isnt acceptable to discuss illegal acts. Basically if you've broken the law and you haven't been convicted of it consider yourself lucky and don't post about it in public.
Just to clarify, discussion of illegal activities, whether that be murder, speeding, fraud, piracy is strictly forbidden.
If you want to claim you've done 150mph on a private airfield thats fine.....if you want to claim you've done 150mph thats fine......claiming you've done 150mph on the M1 isnt!

The powers that be want to rape you for anything they can, so they'll find a way to do it. If its easier/cheaper for one person to trawl the web looking for muppets who post their misdoings rather than having a team of people wandering the country looking for said people then thats what they'll do.

I was on the STOC forum and got a strike for saying that a guy got angry with me because I accelerated faster than him from a set of traffic lights!
This forum is very reasonably moderated IMHO and many car ones are much stricter.
Since I only ever accelerate in a brisk and safe fashion to 70mph on Motorway slip roads I wouldn't know about this of course :)

Neither... cause your car won't go any faster.
If you do want to change the standard intake (which you don't need to) go for a CAIS intake rather than an open cone.
It will sound wicked with a K&N though.

Yeah that's still an open cone... this is a CAIS (cold air intake system) example that fits the S40 - basically where the air is fully taken from outside the car not inside the engine bay where heat soak can be an issue.

I wouldn't worry about your intake too much at the power and tuning levels you're at right now - whack a K&N Panel filter in and forget about it.
You'd be better off spending the cash on the suspension (ARB, springs, dampers) :) leave the intake till later down the track.
