Started off as a £400 spares or repair car, found in a garage after 5 years being off the road. Slowly bought it back up to roadworthy condition and did a maual swap as the auto box was goosed, didnt take any pics of the conversion but it went well after following dooby and i think jamest5r right up. After a while i got used to how fast it was and wanted a bit more, luckily a 304 ecu came up for sale and a few other pieces so bought them, then tony t5 was breaking his car so had the koni yellows off him and manage to get a nearly new set of eibachs for £40, good old ebay! That was it for a while, next came 302 brake upgrade and 2.5" decat back. Then fitted a rip kit but some of the old hoses were splitting so these got replaced with samco ones, made my self a new intake pipe with bigger air filter. Fitted some half leather seats out of an mg and oil preasure and boost gauges but really need to get rid of the wood steering wheel lol As it is at the moment its having polybushed control arms tomorrow along with polybushed tie bar and bulkhead bushes and new delta link bushes. Also a bigger rear sway bar in the next couple of weeks, Got a 16t me7 manifold and whites on order too, dont want to go mad with the power, just mild, and will get a few tracks days done this year Ill update as i go along, thanks

Post 443837 by The Flying Moose on 2012-01-03 19:15:25
what seats are they? look snug, lol
I know for a fact they are MG seats, if I am correct they seats from a ZR/ZS? The car looks very well though and a worthy project indeed. I actually like the seats too they are unique and suit the car. Ill follow keenly with open eyes.
I Like The Steering Wheel Looks Mint! And The Cars Lookin Good Overall ;)
I'll swap you! Unless your joking lol Thanks everyone, yeah there from an mg zr, front mounts are almost identical you can actually adjust them, the rear I had to make a bracket to get them to fit and swap seat belts over, bit of a faff but couldnt get 850r seats for a good price, only paid £50 for the interior of the mg so can't complain. They do give your more confidence in the bends too Got plenty more planned for it!

Nice project will be keeping an eye on it. I like the seat choice, they look like a factory fit seat and it's good they still operate/adjust correctly too.

Post 446855 by Dan850r on 2012-01-08 19:05:17

Update: Got the bottom arms polybushed along with the gearbox tie bar and upper bulkhead and engine mounts. Handling is a lot sharper now,its lost that deadzone it had before between 11-30 and 12-30, and the steering seems stiffer but you do feel all the bumps in the road. That bulkhead mount makes every bearing sound loud inside tho lol Just got the rear bushes to replace next and the lower engine mount by the cambelt, im sure ive heard about fitting an S40 one ( new shape) anyone know?

Post 446864 by Volvostorm on 2012-01-08 19:17:31

Got my angled 16t and me7 mani fitted finally, just waiting on the new injectors to arrive. Going from a tired 15g to this is night and day, spool up is quicker mid range feels alot better and ran out of road for top end. What a ball ache it was getting it to fit. If anyone else does this mod, save yourself about an hours worth of faffing trying to get the manifold gaskets and buy a 1 piece one from volvo for less than a fiver. Had to alter the oil and coolant pipes to fit so be aware if you buy one and get the pipes to fit as i had to mix and match Farewell 15g, you served me well. Now rest in boost

Post 454396 by T5frankie on 2012-01-25 18:49:14

Got few more bits fitted this weekend, blue injectors, wideband afr gauge and gone back to standard airbox. The air box made a big difference, better pickup, smoother power delivery and just generally goes alot better. And i wasnt using a cheapy filter before either, itg maxogen. So maybe volvo do know what there doing then when it comes to intake design? Afrs seem good to under load, 11.6 at wot and 14.7~ 15.5 driving normally

Every reference I found from reputable sources suggested the standard design was second to non for a standard forced cold air intake system. I think too alot less heat soak.

Post 456795 by Dan850r on 2012-01-30 17:42:33

Yeah it doesnt sound as good but goes so much better now! Definately wont be fitting to other filter again lol

Nice progress... Must confess for looks and performance I am sure the airbox is the better option it's just I am a sucker for noise so still opt for the cone filter... ;)

Post 481610 by Dan850r on 2012-04-04 19:30:11

Cheers james, the problem is if you change gear slowly ie let the revs and boost drop right down then accelerate it'll hesitate for a second or 2 then pull fine, but if you stay in gear press the clutch, it doesn't seem to do it, its kind of hard to explain but its doing my head in lol Only other thing i can think of is the recirc blank plate might be leaking? But i seem to remember it doing it before But if you are about and fancy having a look let me know
