What happens pete if people arrent to sure what its worth?
There is always ways of finding a rough price by looking on ebay etc also looking at what there type of items have sold for before on this web site and other sites in the case of its something that hasnt been sold before which is unlikley then we will allow it but this should be a very rare occasion. Thank you.

Although i STRONGLY agree it's very anoying when people advitise with no price given/listed, i think that it should be upto the seller wether he/she wants to state a price or not, Maybe they are just open to THE best offer. Perhaps there should be a Offer's section as well as wanted and For sale. Obviously i will abide by such a rule but just expressing my opinion.

Post 457768 by t5 pete on 2012-02-01 18:13:42

Hello merc Thank you for your view on the subject and as you said you STRONGLY agree. As its is a total wast of time and usage of this forum when people will not state a price 90% of the time people do this is because they are wanting way too much for items, so that's why the Classifieds/for sales rules will be looked at and i feel this will be implemented. Thank you

hiya as i sell things on here...i guess this is aimed at me lol i only dont put prices on as merc says....im normally open to offers, i dont want to look over priced if i put a silly price on and i dont want to be out of pocket either, like merc said, maybe an offers section is in order??

Post 457775 by t5 pete on 2012-02-01 18:23:33

Hello daza first of this is in no way regarding you tbh you havent even come into the question. Also if you are open to offer all you have to do is state a price plus ono it cuts all the space and time of people asking you how much for such items. There is no need for a offers section it would be a total waste of time. Just state a price you feel or know is correct for the item and job done if you are open to offers just put ono and the end of the price. Thank you

Post 457781 by daza-b on 2012-02-01 18:28:09

but that completely defeats the object of "open to offers" thats "or nearest offer" half the time i dont know what sort of price i would be looking for on a certain part, and some things at the time may not be on ebay or even if its on ebay it may be stupidly priced, i thought a forum community was for a group of people to help each other and get things at a better price than elsewhere, where as i may put something on ebay for say £100 i would let it go a lot cheaper to a forum member, hence being open to offers...

Post 457785 by t5 pete on 2012-02-01 18:36:53

Exactly daza i dont know if your getting this or not you have said you want to be happy with the price you get for the items you sell so you have got to have a rough price of what you are wanting. Just for example i have just sold a volvo v70 r front bumper i have seen them sell for £200 on ebay ive also seen them sell for less i wanted £120 for it. Job done price stated. Also there is many ways on finding prices but as i have said in my other posts i dont know if you have read it propley? if there are certain items that people are unsure of priceing it will be allowed but for the majority of items we would like a price to be stated. Theres nothing hard about it daza it just makes for a simple transaction if the seller states what they are wanting for there items i have seen it way too many times over the years when people do what your saying and just knock every one back on there offers as there wanting too much. Thank you

Putting on ono at the end of the price is also a waste of time . You just need to check ebay's make an offer because most of the time you will see the word declined! I know what the mods are trying to do (a new broom sweeps clean)but it is a volvo forum and a lot of people dont know what things are worth and it's often the case your offer will be accepted . Just a pensioner’s view on the subject!LOL

As an aside to the 'price' debate, could it also be made compulsary to state a location as not everyone has a 'proper' location in their avatar bit (personal bugbear of mine ) so folks know whereabouts in the country said item is.Otherwise I agree with putting up a price, folks must have an idea of what they want for what they are selling be it under or over priced.

Ideally we can compose a format for all to use which must include certain elements. For instance when selling a car you would need to state MOT, tax, mileage, history etc. With regards to prices folks, let me word it like this... Everyone has a price in mind with what they want for an item if they are aware of its value. If you are uncertain of its worth then "Open to offers" is acceptable and nobody will bat an eyelid. Its for everyone's ease, I for one ignore all posts if a price isnt mentioned because (and this is my personal opinion) as a buyer I shouldnt have to be asking questions the information should "sell itself".

Well said Emlyn, I hate seeing ads with no price, and I can't be bothered pm'ing back and forth, how can anyone not know what they want for something, I generaly don't look at previous selling prices when I want to sell something, I just sell at the price I'm happy with.
Not everybody wants to tell everyone where abouts in the world they are we are all entitled to our privacy
Good point, I suppose it would depend on what your selling, if it's a big item or a car that needs collecting, then a location would be nice.
Good point, I suppose it would depend on what your selling, if it's a big item or a car that needs collecting, then a location would be nice.
Yeah that s fair enough as its the sellers choice to reveal their location and theres no chance of the goods being posted but for 99% of the stuff sold on here it will be sent by post/courier so no need to know the sellers location. Plus in my head i really am Skipping along the yellow brick road throwing sticks at fairys, eating cheese straws & drinking coke lol

This is likely to go into a debate so I will move this thread into forum suggestions. As T5Pete stated this is a polite notice and not a new rule which could lead to infractions or bans. We hear a lot of complaints where members have posted on the classifieds but not posted a price. If you wish to increase the chances of selling then put up a price, it keep those that are viewing the post happy. (By not putting a price you risk putting off members who may have been interested). If you want to discuss pricing then find the model specific forum, use the search facility or search externally to this site. If this solution is unsuitable then consider an auction site like Ebay.
Not everybody wants to tell everyone where abouts in the world they are we are all entitled to our privacy
Correct......... but you dont need to put the ful post code, or you have three wheelie bins outside a house painted whit with a red door ! I live in Batley ( little town just south of Leeds ) I defy ANYONE ( UNLESS YOU'VE BEEN HERE OF COURSE ) to find me.:rally_dri So, just a general location and county would suffice. Then I know that Hatfield near Doncaster is not the Hatfield in London that you are looking at !!:parhmph: My very helpful mate bid on ebay, comes from Wakefield, no guessing where he tTHOUGHT he was going to pick up the car !!!!!:nutkick:

another thing is pictures........ they are a MUST!! i hate it when you get a FS thread, upon entering your hit with a block of txt & no images..??? & when asked you get ...''oh, if your interested in pics i'll PM you some or send them to your phone''.... WHY!!! if you wanna sell an item put up pics, i personally leave a FS thread instantly that has no pics.... not knowing how to post pics is no excuse, find out.... or loose a possible sale. IMO :pimp2:

Im selling a splitter just now i have put no pics on 1 because im floating about in the middle of the north sea and 2 its not even at my house its at my parents.

Purely a personal view as the subject interests/includes me ( buying stuff) Whilst some folk might like to put things up for offers and 'get as much as they can' , I personally think E Bay is the place for that. It is always nice to use a club forum to buy a straight car from a straight seller at a straight price so I for one would totally ignore a car that wasnt for sale in that way. I have taken great pleasure in selling a straight car or two myself to a fellow enthusiast via club forums. The buyers have often stayed in touch. I just offered a guy his asking price for a T5 he had in the paper only for him to turn me down and tell me he had decided to put it on Flea Bay. Presumably he realised/decided he had offered it too cheap. It then 'sold' on the bay but the buyer was a time waster. Thats why I thought my up front genuine offer of cash might have appealed to him but.. ce la vie another day another car. Nice that we can give our opinions without falling out though hey :smlove2: Regards Mas
