Hi all I'm after a s60r and know very little about them this one is on eBay and I'm itching to buy one 130639361905, does anyone know of it or is there any nice members who wouldn't mind ringing and enquiring if you know what to ask or maybe a quick look at if your in he vicinity. It's only 2hrs from my house and would rather someone with knowledge of these cars ask the right questions rather than me jumping in it and going (power big grin) and just buy it. I know it's a bit over priced but woul make an offer it was ok. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Martin

Best advice I could offer is... Ask for proof of recent timing belt change Proof of recent gearbox/angle gear service/replacement Recent full service inc. PCV. Testdrive - chuck it about, listen for clonks and rattles Test all suspension and tracs settings and look for any vagueness of steering or braking. Hope this is of some use.

Make sure you drive an S60 T5 too before you make your mind up. Not a cheap car to run but awesome when all working from what I've heard.

Only buy an R if you are truly set on it. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201151436871388/sort/pricedesc/usedcars/maximum-mileage/up_to_80000_miles/price-to/8000/model/s60/make/volvo/keywords/t5/postcode/mk44gu/radius/200/page/1?logcode=p

Thanks for the response, I've had 2 t5s and a 05 s60 d5. I would have another one of thoseto be honest.Previously had evos etc and just fancied another Volvo why not a r all the comfort and the power, ain't ruled a t5 out if I don't find a R that is right i would either get a s60 or s40 t5. spoke to a friend who's a trader and told him price etc he said its way over priced it's double it's trade price and a far bit over its retail.

The T5 has the better engine, it isnt prone to angle gear problems, and can be remapped to exceed the R's power without to much trouble. The R is a lovely car, but cracked blocks and broken angle gears can be very very expensive to fix. I wanted an R when I first started looking, but decided that the T5 had everything I wanted, with none of the down sides of the 4 wheel drive system.

That does seem very expensive for the mileage. We recently bought one on a 04 plate with 95k on the clock for £5,600 although it doesn't have Sat Nav, and it was on the understanding it needed the cambelt change service doing (which is being done next week) My wife and I love it, although I find it a bit laggy ( I'm used to instant power from a n/a V6), but once the turbo spools up, boy does it move. Check out Leeds-finest's for sale ad here: http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthread.php?t=40282 same sort of mileage, lower price, and plenty of history.

The 05 model Rs are a bit different to the 03 ones.

You're welcome to check out mine sometime if you're up this way :)
the T5 had everything I wanted, with none of the down sides of the 4 wheel drive system
and none of the upsides LOL :) Not disagreeing with you on the downsides, but there are some plus points to the R too. Better suspension. Better brakes. More power and torque. 4wd traction. Pegasus wheels and more toys as standard. Yes they are more fragile! Having owned a P2 V70 T5 and a P2 V70R, I can say that I enjoy driving the R a lot more. It's just so much more planted than the T5 was, even on Eibachs and new shocks. Not that the T5 was bad, but the R is better.

dampers and tyres etc... do make a big difference, mine drives totally different from standard - FWD traction is good enough if everything else (bushes dampers, tyres etc..) are spot on. If you have anything off in FWD it won't have much traction (even down to the PSI of the tyres.) S60R is quick off the mark but not really quicker than a T5 in the midrange.

I like the handling a lot more than the standard T5s. I think they did quite a good job of masking the weight of the car with the R setup. Agree that FWD on a properly-set-up car isn't bad these days :) Offtopic I know, sorry.
