Just going out for a drive...

Daft question probably but I just went out for a drive and even though it was just to check the general health and feel of the car it led me to the thought "I just don't go out just to drive anymore". Sad thought I suppose, I used to go for a drive if I was bored or just needed some thinking time...........just suppose I don't have the spare time these days. Anyone else in the same boat?

I sometimes go out at night for a spin even if its just round the ring road. It is nice to clear the head though.

Best time to think about things when your out driving. You can just enjoy it and all your worries can dissapear.

i do quite a bit of driving in work time (in Bonny) so prefer just to put my feet up when i've finished, especially now i've got a nice reclining massage chair :). Do like a good drive out sight-seeing if i've got a few days off work

I often go out for random drives.. Although now it's getting to the stage that I question whether the £30.00 might have been better invested lol

We used to got out just for a drive all the time when we were younger but since having a child and buying houses working all the time we just dont ever get time, shame as i used to enjoy it i think i didnt even do 1k in the t5 last year

Those who do go out for random drives in the evening have you noticed how few we are in numbers? I've noticed over the last year that casual driving around at night is almost a dead sport these days.. :(

Post 464422 by Jamest5r on 2012-02-18 20:55:23

After ive spent 60-70hrs on the road Mon-Fri i wish i could be bothered lol, have put 800miles on the t5r in the last couple of months though :)
I used to go for a drive if I was bored or just needed some thinking time
Not for a few years! Even though the V60 is by far the most fun of all the cars I have owned, I only use it when I actually need to go somewhere. I usually go for a walk if I need thinking time. Up the Clent Hills, Lickeys or Kinver.

yea im in same boat, just not the same anymore, due to the cost mainly, those drives that used to cost a tenner now costs £30+ ridiculous really, i really miss random drives out!

Post 464452 by Dangerous Dave on 2012-02-18 21:25:44

Yup, used to have random drives out, now it costs to much and don't have muh time :(

I don't think I've been for a random drive for years.. But I have taken a detour or alternative routes home.. Does that count??

That makes me less keen on 'pleasure driving', although I'm hoping the the C70 that I'm buying may make me feel a bit different, as that car is really for the weekends.

Post 464469 by lance on 2012-02-18 21:46:16

I use my car for work but I will sometimes drive it a bit further than needed to as I dont like to do to short a journeyI have done 16k in the last year.

Reminds me of driving in Spain.

I don't commute anywhere (for work) - so driving is always social & domestic. I still enjoy the odd run out for no reason what so ever.

Post 464512 by M-R-P on 2012-02-19 01:47:12

I've only just started driving for fun. Every now and then i have to drive for work, last week i spent 13 hours behind the wheel of a 3.5t iveco pickup. When i got home I got straight in the T5 and had a quick blast up the dual and back. Mainly to get myself into a seat that fits me and partly for the buzz:).

Drive mine to work every day and use it for visiting customers and suppliers but seldom drive for the fun of it although I do make the decision on who to visit based on the quality of the route and the business pays for the fuel Given up on company cars, the tax liability is now far too high I used to take the two wheeled missile out randomly when I lived down in Surrey just for the hell of it but I have got rid of it because there are too many to**ers on the road who cannot see a motorcycle with its lights on main beam coming towards them ridden by a fat bloke Perhaps we could have a dedicated thread for random unnecessary use of a T5 engined motor vehicle (doh, we already have)

Post 464559 by t5_monkey on 2012-02-19 11:22:42

I use my car most days for short trips (2-3 miles) so never gets warmed up or over 30. Usually go for 1 longer drive per week, just for the hell of it and yes still enjoy the car 5years after purchase :) Like a lot of people on here I bought my car in the good times thinking I was being sensible and now do worry about the bills from time to time, but all is forgiven once you get a good run in it on a sunny day.

Post 464633 by LiamT4 on 2012-02-19 16:48:36

I used to just go a for a drive a lot more when i had the t4 but thats mainly because of the cost of fuel now. What i still do though is, when i go and see some of my mates that are only 2-3 miles away, i will take the long way round on the way home (about 20miles). I won't drive fast, just cruise home, it lets the car have a proper run and i can turn the volume up on the stereo without the mrs nagging at me. lol I do still enjoy driving though, just a shame it costs so much now.

I spend thick end of 12hrs a day driving when I'm at work but I still love to go out for a random drive somewhere, especially on nice sunny days like today! The only problem is, like many have said, is the cost. I've got to think whether or not I can afford to these days :o( There's no point in just driving around the block, has to be a fair distance.

When can Abby meet my new motor Victor? He'd like to see her go topless!

I went to Hull and back on the spur of the moment last weekend (85 miles-ish) and it cost me 40 great british quids! :o(

So we took Petra out today, half a tank of fuel later we achieved a drive for the sake of a drive. Must say it was a very pretty drive, lots of country roads across three counties

Lol i think that this thread may have made a few of us "just go out for a drive" iv just been out for an hour, had a bit of fun with an Octavia VRS and a Signum 3.2 V6, how i beat them i do not know, think they were just being nice lol, went down a few back roads lol thanks for the kick up the :):):):) guys, felt really nice to just go and have a drive again for no reason at all :)

Post 464814 by Wobbly Dave on 2012-02-19 21:36:05

Well I put a set of 5 new sparkies into Betsy today & in a minute I will be going out to see if the wash up (ready for next weekend) & keener ignition is as good as I think it will be - if that makes any sense.

Little lad dozed-off in the car today. We took the opportunity to have a drive about, extending his rest and enjoying some peace:). Took routes that I knew, through the New Forest, stopped at a shop so the missus could grab some sarnies and then a long drive home. Didn't push the car at all but was nice to scoot about for a bit before lunchtime. got 36.4 mpg too ;)

Still like the odd random drive, though due to the expense it's becoming less and less and more of a random drive on the Xbox.....:( :(
