Welcome to the forum. I can say from experience, no. Loads of people said yes, make sure the codes or year match, @rse! I tried 8 different DIMs and nothing worked. I even found a set of clocks with identical numbers and still nothing. My crystal ball says your DIM is failing? or has failed? 2000 to 2003 model?
Its 03 2.4 D5 What do I do then?
Plan A: unplug the battery for 2 hours, remove the DIM, take it apart and take the PCB to a TV/mobile phone shop and get them to resolder the Motorolla chip (one of 3 big chips on the board). It'll cost you about 30-45 quid. Refit the DIM, plug the battery back in and hope for the best. Usually, if done right, it will last for the rest of the time you own the car.
Plan B: (only when resoldering has failed a few times) Take it to Volvo, £732.50 later, a nice shiny new DIM, restyled and more reliable.
If I can be of any help, just ask ;)
Martin.

(although my 2002 S60 DIM is currently working fine in a 2004 XC90 !!) 3) The 'new' DIM WILL need programming in once fitted using Autologic (Diagnstic Tool for Volvos that is more versatile than Vida) or Bring the whole car to me and we will run diagnostics, repair your DIM, reprogramme/upgrade DIM software for a fraction of the cost of a new DIM from Volvo. We can even loan you a car while yours is being repaired. This is a common complaint. We have 2 XC90s in our yard waiting for DIM Repairs. Regards, Hamish. www.hlmtuning.co.uk

What most of them do is replace some capacitors on the power section of the board and re-solder the chips. £99 to £180 for that when all that's needed is the Motorolla chip resoldered? 40 quid from a tv repair shop is a better option in my opinion. And stop worrying about your ETM ;) I had almost calmed down from spending 732 quid in september, now it's aaallll flooding back - hurrumph!

And I had almost got over the etm issue.......until I opened the bonnet and saw the ticking timebomb with the words magne.......no,that's enough!!
Really? you gotta magnetti? chances are it's been fixed already. stop worrying, it would have gone ages ago and been fixed already ;) here's how to tell... look at the etm, what colour is the sticker that you can see behind the dipstick?
FWIW I've just had my DIM repaired for £60 inc postage - sent it Monday, got it back today ;)
All I can do is repectfully say "well done". Talk about can of worms! D'oh. In my defence, I'd grown so sick of fixing my old one, when it nearly caught fire on the M3, I was happy to pay the price of a new one, just to get it done! And for those who haven't seen it... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_7ZrfqB3zs[/ame] This made me feel better ;)
