Hello. I need some opinions about AWD construction on S70/V70 and what standard bhp are they? I have some plans and ideas in the back of my head to get AWD car with more than 250bhp up to 300bhp.

Are you talking about a V70R AWD or a 2.5 LPT AWD? The system is the same but getting 300 hp from the 2.5 would be some mission without doing some work to the CR of the engine as it's a HC engine. It is possible for the V70R to be chipped/modded to 300hp relatively easily and still have no problems with the AWD system bar the usual ones which occur even on the standard cars.
That means that would have to be V70R. I really like S70 shape , but as far as i know AWD has only 190bhp standard, such a shame.
Wouldn't be a case of dropping a 2.3 T5 lump into an S70 AWD?
That would be a perfect combination. Is AWD a reliable construction?
Following this with interest as I too am considering doing it. I currently run a V70awd and have an ex plod 850 T5 that I was thinking about swapping the engine over.So would love to hear folks comments to the O.P. about this.
That would be a perfect combination. Is AWD a reliable construction?
the awd systems are not really reliable when standard let alone trying to push 300bhp, most of the v70r awd's i see for sale have had the prop removed as they are too expensive to repair/re-condition, although if you saw a v70r awd breaking i'm sure it could be a donor for an s70r
The AWD systems are perfectly reliable when well maintained AWD models are now approx. 15 years old with mileage well over 100k There are plentiful supplies of good used parts available Props can be completely reconditioned for as little as £400 The manual AWD gearbox rarely fails but plenty used ones about and can be bought cheap The weak point in the system is the transfer box and it's coupling Good used transfer boxes are about £300 and the coupling is about £90 from Volvo The coupling has been updated by Volvo so a good transfer box with a new coupling should take a good few years of abus The propshafts can be had for £250ish in good second hand condition or completely refurbished for approx £400
You'd need a fair whack of extra power to make up for the 4WD weight and drive train losses. unless it got wet of course :)
Can u tell me what difference (apart of engine size) is between V70R 2.3T AWD 250bhp and 2.5T AWD 265bhp. Do they have different turbos? What bhp can be achieved by remapping them?

What bhp can be achieved by remapping them?
a 2.3 auto v70r has a 16t turbo (240bhp) but the manual has the 18t (250 bhp) the 2.4 v70r awd auto only has the desirable 19t looking about 280 bhp and 290 bhp after a remap
What bhp can remap give for V70R manual 18t 250bhp? Is 290bhp max what can be achieved by remapping 19t 2.5T? Which one of those is better option to go for as im looking at something about 300bhp as my future mode target.
2.4 not a 2.5 mate
I was basing on wikipedia's data
I was basing on wikipedia's data
even the one that they call a 2.5 is still a 2.4 but its a low pressure turbo engine with 193bhp and dont come in an "R" model
Is urs AWD?
Is urs AWD?
look at my sig mate
Never can see what's in front of the eyes
the only 2.5's are the phase 2 v70/s60r's with 300bhp as standard
Looking for phase 1 AWD with a achieveable 300bhp Is there V70R AWD manual?
Looking for phase 1 AWD with a achieveable 300bhp
why awd? the prop is unreliable mate and expensive to fix, he re is this one absolute bargain most are over 2 grand http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3690316.htm
I've seen this one. Why AWD? I had a go in my mates Legnum VR4 manual which by the way i converted to LPG so i had a chance to test it, and acceleration was amazing, with its AWD never span of the line. Never had fwd 300bhp car and im a little bit sceptical about huge amount of power with just 2wd.

I seriously don't know what to do, my S60 is a lovely car to drive as i done few modes to it including full service, but already would like to have something faster so im really confused.
I seriously don't know what to do, my S60 is a lovely car to drive as i done few modes to it including full service, but already would like to have something faster so im really confused.
cant you have both?, there is a reason not many people on here have tuned awd v70r's 1. they aint as reliable and 2. they are alot slower (in the dry)
Is AWD slower in the dry???
Is AWD slower in the dry???
well the power is got to be transfered to more wheels, all awd's are slower than their 2wd counterparts
I always thought that AWD will be faster as all 4 wheels push u forward and u dont' waste any power on wheels spin
I always thought that AWD will be faster as all 4 wheels push u forward and u dont' waste any power on wheels spin
but power from engine to wheels will be reduced in an awd alot more than a 2wd, take the sierra cosworth for instance 2wd 151mph 4wd 144mph and escort 137mph, the only advantage is in bad weather, which is quite often, and you got to factor in the clutch 4wd's eat clutches
AWD is extra weight and also loses more power through the drive system.
So i may go back to looking for S70R.
So i may go back to looking for S70R.
i have one of them too lol
standard or moded?
standard or moded?
standard not for long though lol
Selling it?
Selling it?
Doubtfull, he's turning it into his racer.
i'm not one for buying and selling cars so quick (unless a profit is to be made lol
I'm selling my s70r, but as it looks like you want to do a fair bit of modding my auto wouldn't really be as suitable as a manual.
