Hi guys, new to the site, considering lowering my S80 (2007) by 40mm with H&R lowering springs, will this affect the Four C system??
Hi guys, new to the site, considering lowering my S80 (2007) by 40mm with H&R lowering springs, will this affect the Four C system??
Four C is electro-magnetic variable damping. I would not forsee any issue with lowering it because the EM system relies on the voltage change to vary the damping rate & even though the shocks would sit further down - so long as there was still sufficient travel avaliable - I don't think you will damage them. Lowering springs by their very nature will be stiffer - so some road comfort will be compromised. Why do you want to lower an S80 anyway. The whole purpose of that car is an executive cruising machine, like a jag or merc. Seems a bit odd to me? :welcome:
Looks? Most cars look better when they are lowered a bit, dave.
Welcome to the club :) It's your car, do what you like with it but, as above, you will compromise comfort by lowering.
Don't get me wrong - I am not having a go. I was just wondering about the motivation for lowering it?
It's probably looks, Mine would look much better if it didn't sit there with it's @rse in the air like a horny cat! Handles very well tho, I'm just fed up with it being compared to an XC lol :hilarious
Gap between wheel and arch, much too large!! It's great looking car but will look even greater nice and low.
I have looked around on this issue. There are not many peeps on here with 4C to start with. I am not saying reading opinions on other forums is a reliable source - but so far I can tell that Heico & Eibach springs have been used. Something with a less agressive drop - 15 to 30mm should see you well.
Dave is right. I have Eibachs on my R and it drops it 30mm all round. As far as 4C or "Continually Controlled Chassis Concept" goes, it's unaffected. However, i will point out that your S80 does not have the full blown version of 4C that is fitted to the S60R and V70R. For other readers of this thread, 4C on the S80 only has two settings (comfort and Sport) and only one button. Default mode is comfort and the car will always start in comfort until you press the button to illuminate the LED, then its in sport setting. The rear shocks are different due to differences in the rear suspension however the front shocks are the same. As far as lowering an S80, i see no reason why not. From my perspective the S60R/V70R has three settings (Comfort, sport, Advanced) or more commonly know as (if you haven't had SUM update #3) Hard, F***ING hard, Spine shatteringly hard! However, if you've had the latest SUM update then its certainly closer to what it actually says on the dash aswell as ironing out all the issues with the suspension knocking due to the shocks not being calibrated correctly and lessening the twitchy feeling of the back of the cars in Comfort mode especially in the V70R. So, if you wanna lower then go for it. Your ride will just be firmer. A word of warning thou: if your car has between 70-100k and is still on the original shocks then i guarantee they will be at the end of their life. As soon as you fit lowering springs this will become more obvious especially up front. The car will bounce around more and at speed this will be quite un nerving to say the least. If your gonna lower then i recommend you replace your shocks, support plates and top hats at the same time. This will save you both money and time as you will no doubt have to strip out your suspension all over again (as i found out). A word from the wise...If the dealer tells you your shocks are ok, there lying!!! Just because they don't leak doesn't mean that there ok. They are oil filled and wear just like any other shock. Hope that helps you decide :)
