I want to buy some oil to keep the S60R topped up, but what do I use? A mate of mine who works for Ford says the Focus RS (which I believe has the same engine) uses 0w40, whereas when our Volvo was taken to a Volvo specialist for a service, they used 5w30. Having gone back on a previous thread albeit an old one: http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthread.php?t=21470&highlight=s60r+oil 5w30 would seem to be the way to go, but is there a definitive answer?

0W40 is better than 5W30, thinner when it's cold and thicker when it's hot but either will be fine.
