Reading people posts and such like, regards repairing / transporting volvos
Is there any way as a club we could do more I.e club equipment such a car / transporter paid for via a fee or hiring fee etc, or even someone with a workshop / space who could let us have room for temp large jobs like engine swaps.
In the hope to keep as many on the road as possible. If anyone can think of a solution, as there are quite a few heavy users who may be interested.
Just an idea as I was looking into buying a car trailer

Hate to be boring, but remember the tow vehicle insurance is going to be a sticking point, has it would be classed as hire or reward.
But, I think the idea is a great one :) and I have just bought a van capable of towing 3 tonnes ;)

My workshop has always been available to any member who may need some dry well lit space. There aren't many members close to me who may need such space.

Its a good idea but transporting items for profit if that is your aim will cost you money. You will need to set up a company , insurance and a tacho for the towing vehicle just for starters
But if it is for the club alone you will get all sorts of problems and repair charges.Much better just to hire a trailer and buy insurance for the day.

Not for reward or profit just for cost and with sole aim of keeping Volvos on the road. Like a co-operative.
Niles has the idea, possibly a lot are broken because of cost of repair. Also many are scrapped with perfectly usuable parts which are getting hard to find i.e bodywork. would it be possible to make a depot or storage for panels?

Or maybe a few members who have space keep some parts with the idea of giving them to members when needed, just covering costs I.e postage
Post 488504 by t5steve on 2012-04-18 21:33:02
i have a workshop in essex area which could be used by members if needed, its a bit dusty as its mostly used for paintwork and restorations
if you need a place to work on your car let me know
sorry can't break cars there as there is no provision to get rid of shells etc as it is on a working farm

How about a jobs to be done section? You post what needs doing and people can sign up to help? Then in the thread dates etc can be sorted, maybe help with fuel costs and food?

For instance I'm usually free at some point during the week (weekdays) and have a very good selection of tools (more bike oriented)

I really like the idea but to have it work will require alot of effort/trust and cash not to mention rule following... could we manage that?

I had one of those, drove it from Mansfield Woodhouses to Weston, parked it up and wouldn't drive it again. It was like driving inside a metal drum with a load of lose items banging around inside. It was fitted out as a camper, one night in it was enough, never ever again. When I got home I had ringing in my ears, it never went away :(
I gave it away to the guy who delivers our milk :)

Mine will be kitted out as a camper too, at the moment its a minibus, so it has a few less squeaks.
Plus, I have a cure for them, I've just dug out my old amps ;)
I'll have to start a project thread!

That sounds like a Land Rover owner I used to know. When we got on to the subject of noise, it's bad in a Series 2A, he said "Get a set of large speakers and a big amp, and you won't hear the noises." He had a LR spares business and that was his standard answer for rattles. :)
