Well it's going to be a busy few weeks coming up for me, a couple of jobs that need doing will hopefully be done (with minimal agro) Cars not looking too bad at present..... Image Image .....but there are a few things I need to do, first up is an air con service/re gas which is booked in for tomorrow at 1700 couldn't get a Protyre near me that did air con so didn't get the £30.00 special mrp got at the weekend, still £44.99 for the guy to come round the house doesn't seem to bad. Thursday at 0900 is the Terraclean : http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthread.php?t=43629&highlight=terraclean Got a few other little jobs in the pipeline as well ;) I'll keep you posted.

Aircon Service : Right, after mrp had his aircon serviced at the weekend, it got me thinking, only had the car a while but wasn't sure when the a/c was last looked at, this coupled with the Mrs (Nobber72) saying our 'other car' (Golf 2.0 TDi) "Didn't seem as cold as it used to be" had me trawling the interweb. Our local Protyre didn't do a/c so I surveyed local company's then happened upon this lot : http://www.wechillanycar.com/#!HOME/mainPage I called up on Monday and was told someone could come to the house and do both cars Wednesday at 1700 Whilst out last night with my Dad he said that he had never had his a/c looked at and would I mind asking them when they arrived if they could fit his in as well. 1705 this evening Mike arrived and was very accomodating by saying the extra car wouldn't be a problem. Now when I say a service they really do get looked at, gas is analysed, temperatures are taken, old refrigerant is removed and weighed, system is pressurised to check for leaks, vacumed to remove air and moisture, new oils are injected, system is regassed and temperatures taken again ! Luckily none of our cars had any leaks, the Volvo had 350 grams of refrigerant and 4 grams of oil, this was topped up to 800 grams and 12 grams (P2's take 1000g) ;) The Golf had 250 grams and 1 gram, topped up to 525 grams and 10 grams But the star of the day was my Dad's 2002 never looked at before Fiat Punto.....after 10 years it still had 320 grams and 7 grams ! topped up to 525 grams and 10 grams To sum up Mike was a star, he has 22 years experience, explains anything and everything, and is a nice guy as well. There are 6 of them working for the company and they cover anywhere within Greater London and the Home Counties (inc Essex ;)) Normal cost £49.99 and they will come to your home or work at a time to suit you, 2+ cars got ours down to a very reasonable £44.99 per car, full printout included, only thing to note is they don't take cards (to keep the costs down). Overall 10/10 really couldn't fault the service.

Glad you had a good result mate. It was nice having they guy pop out from time to time, giving me updates. Big question... has it made a difference?
Big question... has it made a difference?
Big difference, I had under half the amount of refrigerant I should have, nice and cold now, and in the Mrs good books ;)

Terraclean Ok as some of you know I was booked in the is morning at 0900 at Performance Tuning in Stoke Poges nr Slough for the V70 to have the Terraclean treatment, here's how I got on..... Pulled into Jags place and was met by Geoffrey, waiting for me, he guided me into the garage and set to work. Image He already knew from working on doorman's car that he needed to disconnect the fuel pump from the tank so it was a simple boot empty and undo the wiring. Image He then set to work under the bonnet connecting the Terraclean machine to the fuel rail with an adaptor whilst pressurising the machine and attaching the 'magic' cans. When the machine was ready it was connected to the car and the engine was started.....and that was it ! Now all we had to do was wait..... Image The whole process once the car was connected and running took about 25 mins, and it was during this time I asked Geoffrey a few questions, he seemed very knowledgeable and even admitted he seemed dubious that the system worked when he first started using it ! They have had their machine for about 6 months now and since the 'Wheeler Dealer' programme this side of their work has increased and he has 6 in total to do today, they cover petrol and deisel engines and the prices are as follows : Petrol under 2 litres : £75.00 plus vat Petrol over 2 litres : £95.00 plus vat Diesel cars and small vans : £95.00 plus vat Diesel large vans/trucks : poa I asked him if a simple injector clean in conjunction with using 'V-Power' would achieve the same results, to which he replied that the Terraclean system is quicker and there is no risk of damaging any injectors (whilst removing etc) along with the fact that it cleans them just as well. One point to note is that they don't have an emissions machine on site, though he did say if I wanted a proper before and after we could run down to the local MOT garage and have readings taken, at this point the fuel pump had been disconnected and the machine set up so I didn't bother, though he was quite happy to do so should I have wished. Another point I brought up was that on older engines with increased wear was there a risk of leaks/damage to the engine once all the carbon had been removed, I was told that they have used the machine on several older cars with no problems and Terraclean themselves will repair any damage caused by the process. Ah but that Jag on the programme was cold I said, the cats didn't have time to warm up and start to work properly ;) though I had him there, till he said that they recommend that the process is done on an engine where everything has had time to warm up. Once the machine had finished it's witchcraft, it was disconnected, fuel pump plugged back in and the boot trims put back in place, payment was made, less a healthy discount of £20.00 for my trouble turning up last week when they were having problems with a BMW and I had to re-schedule. Now for the drive home, had it made ANY difference ? Well the answer to that has to be a big YES Now my engine has only done 59,000 miles and the car was running very well before the treatment, but as soon as I got onto the main road I noticed a big improvement in throttle response, everytime I touched the pedal there seemed to be an instant reply, car was pulling better all through the range, I was impressed. Obviously it's too early to tell if there is any improvement in fuel economy, I will keep a close eye on that and report back soon. To sum up, would I recommend you have this done to your car, yes I would, I can also recommend Performance Tuning UK who also service/tune/remap all makes of car : http://www.performancetuninguk.co.uk/index.html Overall 9/10 maybe an on site emissions testing machine, otherwise a very professional set up.

Bushes and brakes Well I've been a busy boy today, took a trip down South to Poole to visit MRP who was kind enough to help me with a couple more jobs on the car, first up was the polybushing of the wishbones, we started with something like this..... Image .....and after a bit of cleaning, swearing and hanging from a vice we ended up with something like this..... Image Now when I say the ride home was different I really mean it, for something so small these bushes really do make a difference, the steering felt tighter with a lot more feedback through the steering wheel, if you have not done this mod then I can thoroughly recommend it. While the wheels were off I though it would be a good time to see to the brakes, so I replaced all 4 discs and fitted new pads, Pagid throughout, along with bleeding the system, again I felt the benefit straight away, no more spongey pedal for me  Now, while the wheels were off, it would have been rude of me not to show my calipers some tlc so they FINALLY got the coat of paint they needed. Front : Image Image Rears : Image Image I must just say a BIG thank you to Martin, without whom I wouldn't have even started the job, the use of his tools, Father-in-laws drive and experience was invaluable, I had a great day and learnt a lot (and some new words) from someone who is a valued member of this forum and a great mate  Now just time for a few hours sleep.....gotta be at the tyre shop at 0830 ;)

Post 510240 by Harvey on 2012-06-11 00:25:36

Looking great that's what I call a good days work and some, even better when the wheels go on,then it's no curb crawling or it's £50 fine.

Haha the more blood and bad language that goes into a car, the faster it goes! a thoroughly productive, educational and entertaining day :) (Graham has the patients of a saint btw) Spattered with a few wtf moments to make it a bit more interesting lol ;) I can even say, Graham's car is as clean and tidy underneath as it is on top (although it does need a clean now to get all my sticky fingerprints off it lol). I'll post a couple of extra pics later :D

Post 510305 by V70 Graham on 2012-06-11 12:12:41

Wheels and tyres Right, just back from the tyre fitters where I had my nice shiney Comets shod in Avon ZV5 rubber, first impressions are that they are very good in the wet (been chucking it down all day) and they are much quieter than I thought they would be. I went for the Avon's this time as buying 5 Eagle F1's together would have cost toooo much in one hit, I'll see how these last, maybe F1's next time eh lol Oh nearly forgot, suppose you want to see some pics  Well when I woke this morning I was faced with a car that looked like this..... Image Image Image Now it lookes like this..... Image Image Image I am very pleased, not only with how the new wheels and tyres look but also with all the work done this weekend, car really does handle a lot better and is quieter on the road..... :B_thumb: Now it's over to you lot lol.....what ya think of those wheels love em or hate em ?

Headache gone ! Took a drive Monday to drop the car at a little garage in Smethwick some of you may have heard of.....GRN Motors run by Benny with a little help from a certain Chad  Why go so far from home you may ask, well as some of you know I have had a problem with a rattle in the top left hand (n/s) corner of my dash for some time now, MRP kindly 'expertly' fitted a piece of card between the dash and window which did get rid of a lot of the knocking but it was still there.....driving me mad. Speaking with Chad a few weeks ago he said that he and Benny were familiar with the mounting tab problem of a tab breaking and would be willing to have a look to see if it could be glued back, easy enough.....noooo upon removing the old dashboard it was discovered that the tab had broken into quite a few pieces and also the dash where the tab had to be glued was cracking in quite a few places.....but then my luck changed. They actually had a C70 that they were breaking and upon inspection the lower dash from it was in excellent condition :D Fast forward to today and I have just got home from collecting the car and wow what a great job has been done, no more creaks or knocks, everything back together and working as it should. Image Dashboard stripped, I am soooo glad I wasn't around to see this, looking at the picture makes my stomach turn lol Image Image Cracked dashboard and shattered mounting tab.....held together by the felt and a lot of luck ! Image How she looks now, clean and tidy, just how I like her, steering wheel and heating controls straight (for you stribo) Whilst with the guy's I had them fit one of these..... http://www.carputer-shop.co.uk/ipod-iphone-kits-c-1/volvo-ipod-iphone-bluetooth-integration-kit-p-49?zenid=493567b36a0766138380919ab1ea686a .....and I must say I am really impressed, added the bluetooth module so I can stream my Spotify collection via my iPhone, plus have handsfree calling as a bonus, again expertly fitted by Benny with no wiring on show, just how I like it. So Graham's a very happy bunny today, thanks to Chad and Benny :worship: These are two of the nicest guys I have met in a long while, and with a wicked sense of humour, nothing was too much trouble, thank you Gentlemen

Dont want to steal anyones thunder but thought I would inform members that I have had Terraclean done on a Volvo 850 T5 as well as a T5R. T5R was then taken to Germany and was getting 26mpg driving through towns avoiding all motorways to get a results from fuel economy. I had the terraclean done at Grease junkies in Bracknell which just for reference is the garage owned by Ed China from the T.V show Wheeler Dealers and the studio is next door to the garage. Terraclean cost £80 each car and was quick and easy and emissions were tested before during and after system was run. Results were amazing. After system was run emissions kept dropping all the time going from an instant M.O.T FAILURE to a PASS with flying colours. If that's not worth £80 then I dont know what is.

Well I had the day off so I thought it only polite to go for a run in the car and drop in and see MRP.....while there we fitted a quick shift kit, strut brace and had a general clean around the engine bay (inc battery lol) ready for Sunday. Must say the quick shift really makes a difference, reducing the 'throw' of the gear lever by nearly half, the strut brace stiffens the car up nicely throwing the car into corners, overall a good afternoons work. Thanks again to Martin, without whom my car would not be half as good as it is.....thanks mate  Only bad point to note is on the way home the car's odometer passed 60,000 miles, is there much mileage left in the old girl ;) Right on with the pics..... Quick shift plate fitted..... Image .....and the end result, after fitting the strut brace and having a 'clean up'.....what you recon ? Image

Had the old girl MOT'd yesterday, passed with only 1 advisory : Nearside Anti-roll bar linkage has slight play in a ball joint, uprated items arrived from PFV this afternoon  Was looking at the 'Exhaust Emissions Test Results' and saw the following : HC (ppm) Max Limit 200 Actual Value 7 CO (% vol) Max Limit 0.300 Actual Value 0.008 Now to me these figures seem very low, does anyone think this can be down to the 'Terraclean' I had done on 31.05.12 if so maybe some of the claims do hold up, would be interesing to hear if anyone else has any 'Exhaust Emission Test Results' to compare with.

Finally I swapped the sidelight bulbs from LED's to normal 501's (no not the jeans ) I felt the car 'stood out' a little coming up behind people and wanted it to blend in more, I know the bulbs are a little weak, but I think it looks ok, any thoughts ? Are you sure the brake pedal feel was not down to the fact that to fit the brake lines you would of (or the garage would of) had to bleed the brakes, this in itself would have made a BIG difference. Not meaning to burst your bubble or anything Graham, but standard oe brake lines on your Volvo would be braided internally anyway. Perhaps i should change to braided on my car (knowing that they were only bled 4 months ago and system filled with Dot 5.1 ATE Blue) and then see if i notice any difference... ..interesting....

Post 567289 by LeeT5 on 2013-01-28 16:11:28

Regarding the lights, you should of kept the led side lights and fitted 6000k HIDs on your dipped beams.
Didn't know there were 'projector' bulbs, you gonna post me up a link to a DECENT kit then ?
There not 'projector' bulbs mate, it's YOUR headlights that are projectors. The oe headlamp before you replaced yours was a reflector type. You current headlamps are Projector type. You must make sure you use the correct type of bulb, if not then they will look crap. Its often the mistake all the chavs make in there corsas, puntos and the like make. They fit the wrong 'type' of bulb and all you get is loads of glare and un metered light, hense why the little tw ats blind you. Your bulbs will be either H7 or H1. You must search for H* 35w HID kit on eBay. To be honest, as yours are projector lamps then you wont have a problem. many places sell in Uk now, so no need to buy from China.
Do the projectors not have levelling? Only one headlight washer, that's what you get from owning an old banger.:P
The projectors can of course be levelled, it's just the self-levelling system (from the wheel on the dash switch) does not operate, and yeah I think only one washer works. Suppose I could always change back to 'normal' bulbs come MOT time.

Post 580262 by stribo on 2013-03-04 10:39:55

Yeah, I assume the projectors level can be altered, but your saying there's no electric adjustment facility on them are you? TBH I don't think an MOT tester would fail a car on this alone, as there are plenty of Cougars with aftermarket HID's but none have wash wipe facility for the headlamps, and I've not heard of one failing yet.

Post 580263 by M-R-P on 2013-03-04 10:41:39

I don't think it's weather or not it has wash/wipe, but if there's HIDs involved, if wash/wipe is fitted, it must work.

Post 580265 by stribo on 2013-03-04 10:46:10

HID's need wash or wipe or both to keep the lenses clean eitherwise the beam pattern's all over the place, also dirt on the lens can cause a hotspot.

Graham, it's very simple to rectify your problem. Remove the headlamp I front of the offending wiper. Replace said wiper motor with a new one and refit headlamp. Fit new wiper blades. Remove crappy halogen bulbs and replace with hid kit. Drive to main dealer and have them align your headlamps to the correct level. Cost is £15 at my dealer and you know your getting a good align with a calibrated leveller in a nice clean workshop. As far as the mot is concerned, Volvo never questioned my hids and the beam pattern was so crisp, it was very easy to adjust. Then your headlamp wipers will work with your new motor installed. You don't need auto levelling, just wash wipe....which you already have. Worked for me when I had my laser. Will work for you too! Best mod I ever did on the R.
.....and chrome indicator bulbs do what exactly lol
.....Flash dimmer and not as bright as oe orange. I have had them myself, but the light output isn't that bright and TBH, i can cope with a slight tinge of orange in the lens. It's not that noticeable but the lack of orange light when using your indicators is. being as they are also a safety item (Hazard lights) i opted for the much brighter oe bulbs.

Only a few small (and very cheap) things to do now I have brakes and two working headlight wipers/washers, mainly cleaning things (mudflaps etc) and tidying up under the bonnet, then hopefully off down to see M-R-P for a good rubbing (polishing) session before Haynes.

Looks brilliant, I might do this on the saffy if they ever need doing, I soaked mine in megs all season dressing a couple of years ago and they are still fine, but my car gets washed once a year to remove the dust so I don't truly know how it stands up, certainly won't be as good as worth as its not a dye.

Not updated this thread for a while, to be honest I've been busy at work and not had the time, still I wheeled the 'Old Girl' out this morning and headed off to see Sarkey San down in Tadley for a bit of polishing before Sunday. It was absolutely boiling in the sun, we did one side then headed into Newbury for lunch, returning to finish off what we started. A couple of pictures trying to show the deep shine we (well Steve did most of it I just buffed off) achived, don't worry too much about the plastics, glass or wheels/tyres etc.....plenty of time to get those done Saturday. right! busy day with miss daisy, New tcv, vac hoses and a little shiny something extra... Image more on that later. here's how we started... Image Image Image then off with a few bits and bobs and started fitting the New shiny thing while running New vac hoses. Image now, the DO88 MAF to turbo pipe isn't designed to fit on a bsr optiflow system so I had to make/modify some 3" ally pipe to connect the two together... Image coupled together with some sturdy reinforced rubber pipe... Image and because the DO 88 pipe doesn't come with any means to diffuse the airflow across the MAF or protect the MAF from debris so I ripped the gause from the MAF housing and fitted it between the 2 pipes.. Image Image all coming together... Image Image done! Image in all, it went pretty well and I didn't loose too much blood lol. I'll let Graham explain the difference it's made ;) another great afternoon spent working on a fantastic car with good mate - a great end to a bloody hard few weeks lol.
I'll let Graham answer that ;)
Well.....I'm not sure if it's anything to do with the 3" MAF to turbo pipe work (turbo probably spools up quicker) or the new TCV and vac lines (not been changed since I've had the car) but boy does she fly now ! Not a lot to add to Martin's post, he seems to have covered our day's work (well he worked, I got in the way) I just found it amazing to see it all coming together and as Martin said the do88.se pipe is not designed to fit into the BSR Optiflow system, but did that stop him, not a chance, into the shed he went and pulled out various alloy tubes and rubber pipe till it all went together. The finish is spot on, totally secure and very tidy, ready for you to cast your eye on his work at TRAX. As usual a big thank you to Martin, without who's help I'd just have a shiny pipe in a cardboard box  Cheers mate

If the air filter can't stop crud getting in there, then a bit of mesh isn't going to either.;)

Post 642014 by M-R-P on 2013-09-06 23:18:35

it's also a means of diffusing the air across the sensor. since there's a 45 degree bend, then a straight between the filter and MAF, there's a possibility of faster air going past the MAF than what's actually being measured.

Post 642068 by JUDGENINJA on 2013-09-07 10:31:37

Is the MAF now fitted on the bend or just before it? Rough airflow for best air measurement is 5x pipe width from a bend. If it is on the bend you won't be getting exact measurements. Although relitively in consequential as the car will probably not notice.

Another day another trip down to Poole, this time for M-R-P to fit my new Forge recirc valve. Not an easy job, especially if you have to do it twice.....tried the yellow spring with 1 spacer first of all before settling for just the yellow spring. Big thanks to Martin (again) had a great day mate with loads of laughs.....and I think I kept out of your way and didn't ask too many stoopid questions lol. The drive home was as usual interesting, with me testing out the new bits, there is still a flutter/chatter at 3250/3500 revs when giving it the beans but the car pulls very strongly in all gears with no obvious loss of boost.....does anyone else get this ? Only a couple of piccy's of the old and new valve side by side..... Image Image

Post 650019 by AndysR on 2013-10-04 21:36:54

Are you still running the standard bcs ? Was it fluttering before you changed the intake and boost pipes from standard?

I've noticed mine does it since fitting the exhaust, haven't noticed any drop off of boost though.

If the bleed pipe from the TCV feeds into your new intake pipe, it may just be that you can hear. You really need to get a boost gauge fitted so you can see what's going on.
No fluttering before changing the intake pipe that was done about a month ago when we also changed the tcv for a new Volvo item along with the vac lines.....any ideas ?
It could be the management controlling the boost and effectively holding the boost back a little until the revs increase past a safe zone. The fact the car is performing normally makes me think it's probably either that or a side effect of changing the pipes and the sound of the air flowing through it which is more audible as a result of restrictions in flow being removed. What map are you running? Oh and you should have fitted a blanking plate instead, chatter is awesome that way ;)

Took young stribo out for a spin earlier and I think he was quite impressed (whether he admits it or not we'll have to see) with the car, he seems to think it's the TCV that's fluttering and it's quite normal. After speaking with M-R-P yesterday and stribo today the general feeling is that a cat back exhaust would finish the car off nicely (any recommendations) along with simply replacing other items such as suspension etc with uprated parts when they wear out. Must say I am very pleased with how she's running at present.

Post 650219 by daza-b on 2013-10-05 19:36:43

Mr Welch himself would make a good cat back system at a good price mate ;)

Post 650221 by Kingsford G on 2013-10-05 19:53:24

Dual exit would look cracking on it mate but u`d have to get another bumper or cut yrs so single it is.Suspention due to the age I`d say u`ll feel the difference if u fit new ones all around its just the case where do u stop spending where some may say why not, lets do it.Either way a cracking car mate.I like pulling yr leg but if u look after her like u do she`s gonna outlast most of the cars on here.Keep up the good work.:B_thumb:

Post 650227 by AndysR on 2013-10-05 20:00:54

Oh and suspension wise get yourself some Koni adjustables with some new standard R springs to give a factory look with a little sportiness ;)
Ahem lol http://www.supersprint.com/en/IT/default.aspx Theres one thing a love about my car and thats the stainless zoost from those guys ;)
They are nice but you won't beat the quality of a Ferrita in terms of an off the shelf direct fit exhaust, plus you can still fit the factory oval trim on the end of a ferrita if you don't like the round trim they come with, so again retaining a factory ish look ;)

Suspension is fine at present, that was only an example of future work when needed.
Suspension is fine at present, that was only an example of future work when needed.
That doesn't surprise me at all tbh, that said when needed I think my suggestion would be a nice touch, and go well with the outstanding example of a car you have ;)

Post 650243 by stribo on 2013-10-05 21:06:40

Car goes really well, considering the driver. :P Not as raw as the C70, but very smooth, and very quick, as a Beemer driver found out when he tried to have Graham up a sliproad onto the M4. I agree with Andy about the ferrita, subtle look and sound, compliments the car nicely, but maybe Graeme will be able to come up with something.

Post 650320 by Sharkey R on 2013-10-06 11:48:50

Ferrita all the way mate. Subtle but sweet!

Post 650321 by expolicev70t5 on 2013-10-06 11:57:11

I would agree with Sharky r Ferrita for me, saying that I'm biased as that's what I have on mine, gives it a nice sound but not too noisy even at motorway speed

Post 650882 by LeeT5 on 2013-10-08 07:48:57

Ferrita are nice and they are only slightly noisier than stock. You'll hear a slightly deeper burble at idle and a barkk when you open throttle hard. Steady cruising at 70 you won't really notice any difference. Having had Ferrita in the past I personally wouldn't go back. Mainly due to cost. They ain't cheap. The way forwards, AFAIK is Custom. Have a custom system built to YOUR spec with whatever tailpipe trim you so require!! Costs less too and (they fit better). More of a personal touch and bespoke to your car.

i had this turbo gauge mounted in my t4 graham. - becuase it is not chav ! looked pretty good alongside the oe dials. Image it £43 from demon tweeks, and u can get white or black face. you might find it cheaper as well. i mounted it on a pillar mount, but cut off the mounting leg to be very thin so it slid down the edge of the dash and wasnt sticking out as far as they can do.

I just sourced mine from TME direct, shipped from Sweden......easy peasy process and really good quality/fit but yeah expensive relative to the value of the car now. Just a quick update, I've decided NOT to fit the do88.se intercooler to the car, on my ME7 car it's going to be a very tight fit and I might have to do without the a/c, I spoke to MRG this morning (they did Rudeboy's yesterday) and they say it's a pig of a job and took them 5 hours, granted that did include removing his a/c but fair play to them as they honoured the quote thay gave him :B_thumb: They also said that the standard intercooler should be up to the job (even with a new exhaust) and tbh if they hadn't have come up at such a good price I wouldn't have thought of getting one. A forum member has expressed his interest in the cooler so he has first dibs, if he doesn't want it I'll be putting a 'for sale' post up. I still have one very important 'mod' to do this week.....piccy's tomorrow

One of the biggest improvements/gains was to fit the larger FMIC - but it really does depend what you want to end up with and what turbo choice you run with. You always struck me as more of a BKV type rather than a racer/tuner.
One of the biggest improvements/gains was to fit the larger FMIC - but it really does depend what you want to end up with and what turbo choice you run with. You always struck me as more of a BKV type rather than a racer/tuner.
I'll be sticking with the 16t as it seems to do all I'll need, next up is the exhaust and after that it should be about done, it will never be the fastest car on the forum but it's not "all show and no go" it does move as those who've been in it will testify. I set out to build on what was already a decent condition T5 and I think I have been sensible in the mods I've carried our (or M-R-P/stribo have carried out lol) I'm very happy with both the stock look of the car and also the improved performance the remap, RIP kit and hopefully the exhaust/downpipe have/will make.

i wasnt specifiying anything, i was pointing out a couple differences, shall we go into the diameter of the box and shape also the internals of the me7 cat which is quite abit different to the internals of a 850 one?

think everyone is getting abit ahead of them selves. im sure the company will sort the exhaust for graham. its probobly just been a case of one of the lesser experienced fitters built his system. im sure all will be corrected next week. if worst comes to the worst ill send graham on of my silencers for him to try as i know this would cure the droaning.

Post 685097 by V70 Graham on 2014-01-28 16:18:32

About time I had some good news for a change and I'm pleased to report I've had a great day down with M-R-P doing a couple of small jobs on the car that weren't urgent but needed doing. First up was the exhaust.....and thanks to Andy I now have a stainless tip to smarten it up, the old tip seemed to be sunk into the recess about 2-3 inches and after a bit of fabrication it now sticks out about an inch and a half, time will tell (along with any comments at the RR day) whether we reposition it flush or not. Before and after pictures..... Image Image Next up was the new air filter kindly donated by Iancho, the old one was starting to rust and wasn't looking it's best. While I was on the phone, Martin decided to do something about the HID wiring kit that had been bugging him for ages, he started to rip bits off the car, laughing to himself every so often as my face started to look more worried :scared: The results speak for themselves, where before there were relays tied to the induction kit, all became neat and tidy.....the lights still work too ! The air filter was squeezed into its new home and everything put back how it should be..... Image Image Another thing I have been meaning to do is change the indicator bulbs over for some chrome ones, unfortunately I couldn't find the ones stribo gave me so I purchased some more..... Image Image One thing that amazes me about M-R-P (and many others on the forum) is his ability to fix things cheaply and easily making use of any old bits he finds either in his toolbox or 'man cave' today, after it had been bothering me for over 2 years, he fixed my bonnet release which didn't fully open, it seemed not to open the n/s catch.....I'm still not quite sure how he did it, I'll let him fill you in on that. Thanks again mate for a great day, had a laugh as always, and I'm sure what you told me about stribo can't possibly be true :hilarious

Post 685100 by M-R-P on 2014-01-28 16:33:32

Hehe - that bloody bodge-job wiring was really annoying me so I thought it a good idea while Graham was occupied, swearing at another forum member, to do it all properly. Not a cable-tie or relay (or even a fuse carrier) in sight. Much nicer :) So, bonnet catch... The cable appeared to be a little stretched and wasn't pulling the lever fully. I cut the washer section off a 5mm rivet, cut a slit in it and slid it over the bonnet cable, between the toggle and lever, effectively shortening the cable. I should've taken a couple of photos really as I doubt Graham's isn't the only car with this problem. Had a giggle, as always, even though the lesbanians next door weren't there for graham to groom :)

If you're going for the same style filter Graham has now, I'd put 3 or 4 slits in the alloy collar and tighten it down with a nice big Mikalor clamp.

My V70R FWD wheel is like that with the woody upgrade spec... do you know if the wood was available in other shades? For example I've seen a pic of a redder wood in a V70 SE that looked good but thats been the only time I've seen any other shade. My V70R AWD has the bog std non woody wheel so I'll have to transfer the current woody one or get one in a different colour if I can (I'm doing a semi-custom interior makeover when I get the time) Ta :)

The work on the car went really well, better than any work I've done on Graham's car in fact. Made me suspicious tbh lol. There were a few extra little jobs (insignificant really but needed doing) and they also went perfectly. We finished hours before I planned so we spaced the afternoon out a bit (we sent the women and lil M-R-P out to the beach for sone peace and quiet) and had a laugh baiting the lesbanian next door, laughing at the retards across the road and generally enjoying the sunshine. All finished with fish n chips from one of the country's finest fish bars. Great day.

Ermmmm, it's different and I think it would look okay on a car which was heavily modified in all departments, but as yours is so tidy and mainly o.e. looking it looks out of place in my opinion, but it's your car and if your happy with it, that's all that matters.

Post 710302 by V70 Graham on 2014-05-09 19:43:37

A good few replies and as expected it's a 'Marmite' kinda thing, your either gonna like it or your not. Obviously when you look at a pattern on the computer it's difficult to work out exactly how it's going to look on the car, it was something I wanted to try and I'm glad I have, at the end of the day it's only a set of plastics and if ever I feel the need to change them I can do so with minimal outlay. But for now, as they are obviously getting to a few of you, they are staying

Post 710316 by artfulflounder on 2014-05-09 20:22:41

It does look good graham. As you say they're only plastics but its very individual. Brings the engine bay to life and highlights how clean it all is. Oh and steering wheel looks a cracking job but didnt want to comment before as I remember one of the last posts regarding one.lol

Bloody hell, that's knocked me for 6! Ok, I'm not keen, seems like some sort of thing found on a Skyline or similar (says the lad with a stickerbombed Volvo!) but heck it's one hell of a statement! Think, with this you're ALWAYS going to get a reaction when you open the bonnet now, if you went for carbon or something people would barely bat an eyelid...

Well what can I say, the quality looks top notch and that quality echoes throughout the car so from a quality point of view it complements your time effort and and MRP's efforts too ;) As for the colour and style I don't personally think it's in keeping with the rest of the car and the image that the overall car has but it's your car and you like them so does anything I say really matter? No of course not, your happy and that's all that counts, oh and the Hydrographic trims are easy to maintain so will make keeping the engine bay looking fresh easier than before :)

I wonder if they would've put some number transfers on there prior to the laquer..? Looks like a nice job tho mate.

Forward and back is all you need. You don't need more than 3rd and 4th :)

Looks good mate, though as Sarkey San has said, it's a bit redundant with your driving. ;)
Your knob looks great ;) not sure of the key fob - a bit 'car boot' if you ask me lol
I think it's best to keep the car key on its own so it won't rattle or mark the paintwork, it can sometimes upset the immobiliser chip in the key to receiver. But that's just me sorry. PS got a link for it .....:)
Am I sad ? You could have done that with your plastic one. :slap: Oh, and yes, very sad. :P

Had a great day out yesterday with Sarkey San and M-R-P, the car needed a good run and I had a few bits to swap over, can you spot the difference...... Before Image Image After Image Image I'll be honest and say I did like the Green 'sick' covers but I'm pleased with the way the Black ones look, hoping to have the fuel rail painted to match.

Post 733406 by V70 Graham on 2014-09-05 08:24:04

I also changed the 'knob' over for the wood effect one, doesn't 100% match but I think it's better than the Grey one.....what do you think ? Image Image

Took the car for a spin to MRG in Chippenham this morning to have them fit a couple of new droplinks and a new aux belt, I must say they are a very friendly bunch. Free WiFi and several offers of Tea/Coffee (no biscuits though) along with a few comments commenting me on the condition of the car, I can see why so many people travel to them. Car of course now drives spot on, and just in case there was a 'book' running on it I got them to change the 'wooden' gear knob back to the factory one as it wasn't a 100% match

Post 736890 by stribo on 2014-09-24 15:31:33

You paid someone to change a pair of droplinks and an aux belt. :slap: a chimp could do that, though apparently not JamesT5. I can't believe you ruined a perfectly good wood gear knob.

Gloss black plastics look good. Not sure about the quasi-CF wrapped brace though.
Gloss black plastics look good. Not sure about the quasi-CF wrapped brace though.
Yeah, the wrap was part of a previous theme. Doesn't really fit now but don't have the heart to rip it all off again. It was a nightmare to put on there. I've a few more bits to do in the bay so I might sort it...

Post 744468 by Saaamon on 2014-10-24 23:08:41

I think it looks really good with standard plastics, bet that engine bay wasn't as clean as that when it was first built.
