Unfortunately the good old V70 is throwing a bit of a wobbly of late, it broke down yesterday with a lack of throttle response and threw up an E.T.S warning lamp on the dash. After a while the car could be restarted and the throttle had returned to normal, so the car was driven home and then I read the fault codes (p422 p1600 p1608) and reset them. The car ran fine and then went to work in the morning, no problems. Yet on the way home and oddly enough, coming around exactly the same corner the same thing happened and after a while it would run again and got home. Read the codes again, only (p1600) this time.
Any idea's anyone, would most gratefully be received, many thanks Adrian

your accelerator pedal is knackered mate, does your car have a yellow sticker ETM?
i have an accelerator pedal for this car if interested. £180 from Volvo make me an offer

its a funny thing this yellow-sticker thing!!!, I've read a bit on here about this sticker lark and was wondering whether this would probably be the problem? where is the yellow sticker / etm ? do you mean the throttle pedal?

Your ETM is situated under your inlet manifold, its a rectangle box you can just about see the sticker without removing anything. Mine was originally a white sticker one, i replaced it with a yellow sticker one from the same year car, no software required. If your going down the second hand route pm me and i will give you the full low down on how to do it for penuts

thanks dave for the part, hopefully this will sort the problem out, will just now have to find away to get it re-flashed. if any-one has idea's of cheap ways of doing this i would be most grateful

procedure for fitting a second hand ETM:
1 disconect battery (make sure you have radio code)
2 remove pipe to ETM
3 If you have standard air filter box remove it
4 remove 4 bolts holding ETM in place very fidly this bit
5 Remove old gasket
6 now reverse above
7 connect battery
8 switch ignition to the on position but not started, leave it in this position for 20 mins
9 switch off and remove keys lock the car and leave locked for 5 mins
10 open car and go for a decent drive gently using the whole rev range to begin with.
11 now have proper fun

Many thanks job done with yours and wobley dave's help ( and as you said no need to re-flash) back on the road again and not a fault code in-sight

when they changed from magnetti marelli system to the bosch system it needs reflashing. If you hadnt guessed i have looked into this a lot lol

Reading between the lines and threads, it would seem that the information you got for is correct, but at the same time the unit you sold me has been fitted to a car and programmed to work, so when swapped it continues to work. Where as I understand a brand new one has got to be programmed to work, so it seems that if you use second hand units the problem can be bypassed, well in this problem at least.
